Heuristic evaluation of applications built for mobile devices has different implications than their
desktop (web or OS) based counterparts. The singularities of the Android platform, due
especially to the vast range of devices with different specifications of hardware, make the testing
scenarios not easy to cover, and are sometimes overlooked. The present work studies the
implications of doing heuristic evaluation of mobile applications that support multiple screen
sizes and resolutions, and proposes an adaptation of the standard, with regards to the problems
and challenges that these tasks entail. It also presents a validation of the adaptation using a realworld
case study. / Tesis

Behavior-based malware detection system for the Android platformBurguera Hidalgo, Iker January 2011 (has links)
Malware in smartphones is growing at a significant rate. There are currently more than 250 million smartphone users in the world and this number is expected to grow in coming years. In the past few years, smartphones have evolved from simple mobile phones into sophisticated computers. This evolution has enabled smartphone users to access and browse the Internet, to receive and send emails, SMS and MMS messages and to connect devices in order to exchange information. All of these features make the smartphone a useful tool in our daily lives, but at the same time they render it more vulnerable to attacks by malicious applications. Given that most users store sensitive information on their mobile phones, such as phone numbers, SMS messages, emails, pictures and videos, smartphones are a very appealing target for attackers and malware developers. The need to maintain security and data confidentiality on the Android platform makes the analysis of malware on this platform an urgent issue. We have based this report on previous approaches to the dynamic analysis of application behavior, and have adapted one approach in order to detect malware on the Android platform. The detector is embedded in a framework to collect traces from a number of real users and is based on crowdsourcing. Our framework has been tested by analyzing data collected at the central server using two types of data sets: data from artificial malware created for test purposes and data from real malware found in the wild. The method used is shown to be an effective means of isolating malware and alerting users of downloaded malware, which suggests that it has great potential for helping to stop the spread of detected malware to a larger community. This thesis project shows that it is feasible to create an Android malware detection system with satisfactory results.

Fjärrstyrning av videokameraAlvarado, Cristian, Ibrahim, Ayad January 2012 (has links)
On some occasions it may be inappropriate with a cameraman behind the camera. In somecases there is no cameraman available or it is a smaller event, like a family celebration, to befilmed. It can also be difficult for a cameraman to shoot from certain angles. One solution forthis kind of situations can be to remotely control the camera movements. There are thosekinds of solutions on the market today but they either address professional filmmakers or thefunctionality is limited, for example by the absence of wireless remote control. This project aims to develop a solution to the problem with absence of wireless remote controland also a solution with more flexibility and less complexity than today’s solutions. The maindifference between this and existing solutions is the use of Bluetooth technology ascommunication between the devices. The project resulted in a solution consisting of twounits; one operating unit where the camera is mounted and a remote unit for control of theoperating unit. The remote unit is managed by the filmmaker. The remote unit consist of anAndroid application on a smart and which communicates with the control unit via Bluetooth.

The possibility to develop a generic useful application for e-guidesHuhtanen, Emma, Björk, Marie January 2011 (has links)

A Performance Study of Hybrid Mobile Applications Compared to Native ApplicationsBrinkheden, Dan, Andersson, Robin January 2015 (has links)
This study evaluates the performance difference between hybrid and native mobile applica-tions when accessing the low level API. The purpose of this study is to find out the differ-ence in performance between the different methods for developing applications due to an increasing market for platform independent applications. Several benchmarks were created to measure the performance on the following criteria, execution time, memory allocation and storage space. The benchmarks were developed with a similar behaviour to match the functionality. The Titanium benchmarks were around 8.5 times larger in storage space and used 26-28% larger heap when it came to memory than the equivalent Android benchmarks. Android generally has a lower execution time than Titanium, however there are cases such as the math library where Titanium has a lower execution time.

N2Z – A NFC to ZigBee® transceiverDhanekula, Anish 23 April 2013 (has links)
ZigBee home automation systems have been around for years. They include smart energy efficient wireless systems that connect devices via mesh networking. It has always been a problem to connect to these ZigBee nodes with existing technologies we use daily. The premise of this project is to provide easy access to these nodes via near field communication, which is a technology that is available on a majority of smart phones today.
The report details the design and implementation of N2Z, a device that translates data provided by an Android app through a NFC interface to a ZigBee device and vice- versa. We first discuss the requirements and use cases for the device and application. Then the report goes on to discuss the base technologies behind N2Z, which include the Android platform, Near Field Communication (NFC) & the ZigBee platform. The report then goes on to discuss the design and implementation of the system. Consequently, we discuss the final results of the system with certain use cases and provide some empirical data that gives us insight into system operation. Next we discuss other existing technologies that exist in the market. Finally we conclude the report with a discussion on future work and thoughts on the future of ZigBee. / text

StarMapper : an android-based application to map celestial objectsO'Donnell, John Jason 23 April 2014 (has links)
This report describes StarMapper, a mobile appliation designed for the Android platform that interactively maps the celestial sky and can provide information from Wikipedia about celestial objects to the user. The stars, constellations, planets, sun, and moon are all rendered in real-time and the user can navigate the celestial map simply by pointing the device around the sky to find and identify the different celestial objects. However, if the user prefers, a manual touch-based map navigation feature is also available in StarMapper. While other Android applications currently exist for mapping the sky, such as Google's Sky Map, StarMapper aims to enhance the experience by also providing additional information about celestial objects to the user by means of a simple click on the screen. For obtaining more information about a particular constellation or other celestial object, the user only needs to click on the object's name in the map, and the device's web browser opens to the Wikipedia page of the clicked object. Through this simple mechanism, the user can learn much more about astronomy than just locations of celestial objects. / text
