Indonesia Air Traffic Services (ATS) Readiness and Strategic Plans for Taking Over Airspace and Improving the Service : Case Study: Airspace Sector A, B, and C.

Mangko, Ade Patra January 2013 (has links)
Indonesia is trying to take over airspace Sector A, B, and C from Singapore and this desire has been going on for decades. To carry out these dreams, Indonesia was faced with a series of agreements with Singapore and Malaysia because both countries have interests in that airspace sector. To take over that airspace, Indonesia must perform a series of efforts. One of the efforts is by improving Air Traffic Services (ATS) quality in Indonesia. In determining ATS service quality, pilot perceiving and expectation must be assessed. Pilot employed tangible and intangible cues to determine the quality. The author determined forty items to describe pilot perception and expectation based on 10 (ten) criteria in evaluating service quality. Moreover, total ATS quality which is including technical quality and functional quality dimensions are clearly presented. Other factor influencing ATS quality is safety culture which is merged with ATS quality. Human factor as the main source in conducting service is described clearly in relation with ATS. Human factor become important because human and its environment can affect ATS performance. Six principles of service management are elaborated in ATS system to improve ATS quality. Combined with service and management theories to obtain the conclusion of Indonesia ATS quality and ATS readiness, this research discussed the Indonesia strategic plan to improve service quality. Then, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will work together with Indonesia ANSP and ATS Unit authority to manage ATS quality in Indonesia in order to taking over airspace Sector A, B, and C from Singapore. Keywords: DGCA, ATS, Airspace, Service quality, Safety culture, Human factor, Service management, Strategic plan. /
This thesis is about how to manage and improve the Air Traffic Services in Indonesia based on management an business theories.
/ Transportation Research

Alien Tort Statute: A Discussion and Analysis of the History, Evolution, and Future

Yodlowski, Shane 01 May 2014 (has links)
The Alien Tort Statute is a short, thirty-two word section of the United States Code enacted in 1789 as part of the Judiciary Act. The Alien Tort Statute, or ATS, has an uncertain and controversial beginning and remains controversial in current jurisprudence. The ATS reads as follows: “The district courts shall have original jurisdiction of any civil action by an alien for a tort only, committed in violation of the law of nations or a treaty of the United States." It is my intent for this thesis to be an academic discussion of the mysterious history, intent, and court cases that have evolved the ATS; and the way in which the evolution took place. Having lain dormant for almost two decades, it is important to understand how the ATS was finally utilized and how this affected the statutes ability to become a tool for human rights persecution abroad; until the decision in Kiobel v. Royal Dutch Petroleum. Examining the language of two opinions by the District Court of the Second Circuit and the Supreme Court in Kiobel we will be able to understand, but reject, the arguments of both these courts.

MORE THAN ENTERTAINMENT : RECEPTION STUDIES OF AMERICAN TV SERIES/SERIALS IN CHINESE COLLEGE STUDENTS

Jiang, Ying January 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to examine the current reception situation of the chosen four American TV series in Chinese college campuses. Rather than focusing on the series content, this thesis would focus much more on the audience part, to explore how the personal backgrounds and social factors would influence certain ATS received by certain group of people. This research is based on 222 valid responses from a highly structured questionnaire. The responses are collected from five universities which are located in the east, west, south, north and middle of China, with consideration of gender, major and school year as basic variables. The questionnaire is published on a website. Students are given a web link, finish the questionnaire and submit their answers online. Collected materials are processed with Excel functions and illustrated both by numbers and different graphs. The analysis revealed that there existed several motivations for Chinese students to watch American TV series and it turned out to have influence on them in a more or less similar way. A noticeable finding includes that both the motivations and the influences vary depending on the students' age, gender, major and the geographic location they belong to. And this is supported by the data obtained from their responses. Generally speaking, motivations for Chinese students include practicing English and gaining knowledge of western culture and societies through watching ATS; following the fashion in order to get along better with their peers; enhancing self-identity by choosing different genres; and escaping from study pressure from the real life. Very interesting phenomenon is that few students watch ATS merely for relaxation, which means ATS is received in China more than a simple tool for entertainment. Most of the motivations are gratified. Studies show that ATS does have great impact on Chinese college students both as a language learning tool and a culture messenger. However, it should be noted that influences vary depending on some factors. Geographically speaking, students in the less developed cities in China, where educational infrastructure is relatively backward, mostly utilized ATS as a useful tool to improve their English; while students in the developed cities, find more similarities between their life and what is portrayed on the screen hence they believe the greatest influences lie in culture aspects. Studies also found that, compared with boys, girls are more likely to be influenced by external factors such as peer pressure. In terms of genre, girls show evident preference for romance and emotions while boys insist their likes on crime, technology, violence etc. Senior students, due to more spare time out of class, indicate a more positive engagement in watching ATS, with more time devoted to it while the freshmen obviously have less time because they are busy with themselves not only in class but also in other extra-class activities in addition to ATS. Students of different majors show diverse preferences for different genres, which is supported by data from the research, too. General findings can be expanded and concluded into two aspects: Firstly, ATS is more than an entertainment in Chinese college campus; secondly, social context works greatly on young audiences' reception in American · TV series/serials. The context incorporates not only an economic one, but more importantly, a cultural one. Audiences' own identities, along with these social contexts, will work together in altering the audiences' reception for certain content. The thesis is not free from limitations, which is listed at the end of the text. Given more time, adding more qualitative interviews to deepen the obtained results from the quantitative responses, and adding more control in questionnaire retrieval process, I believe this research would go further in where it aims to go. However, since there is so far not any empirical study concerning Chinese college students' reception for American TV series/serials, this research still hopes to contribute a bit to the reception studies framework within a Chinese context. Future exploration could be oriented to cross-cultural reception studies, which expect to find more diversity within different social context.

Maskininlärning för automatisk extrahering av citat från recensioner : Med användning av BERT, Inter-Sentence Transformer och artificiella neuronnätverk / Machine learning for automatic extraction of quotes from reviews : Using BERT, Inter-Sentence Transformer, and artificial neural networks

Hällgren, Clara, Kristiansson, Alexander January 2021 (has links)
To choose a number of sentences from a movie review to use as a quote can be time consuming if done manually. This thesis evaluates supervised machine learning models to create a prototype that automatically can choose such quotes. The thesis chose, based on a literature study, two models to implement and evaluate on data consisting of movie reviews and their respective corresponding manually chosen quotes. Out of the thesis two implemented models, BERT with Inter-Sentence Transformer and BERT with an artificial neural network, the latter showed marginally better results. The models were evaluated with ROUGE and was compared with state-of-the-art models regarding automatic text summarization. The conclusion is that the models that were evaluated do not perform well enough for the problem to motivate full deployment without further development efforts. However, the results show that there is potential that the evaluated methods can partially replace manual labour when choosing quotes.

Ovlivnění rychlosti střelby ve fotbale / Influencing Shooting Speed in Football

Čáp, Ondřej January 2020 (has links)
Title: Influencing the shooting speed in football Objectives: The aim of my thesis was to record, evaluate changes and verify the effectiveness of the implemented intervention during the reference period in the development of shooting speed together with a rebound ability in a long jump in a football team which is operating in the 5th highest football competition in Germany. Methods: Quantitative research was carried out in the form of motor testing of a football team from a selected foreign football league during the autumn part of the competition. Two tests were selected to determine the development of the explosive force of the lower limbs. It was a specific test of the explosive force of the lower limbs - a kick from a one-step rhythm and a test of the general explosive force of lower limbs - jump. It was a so-called cross over study. Team was divided in two groups, where group A was doing implemented intervention in a different part of reference period than group B. Results: Based on the analysis of descriptive statistics, there was an increase in the statistics in the long jump and a decrease in the statistics in both monitored groups, while group A has the observations with the greatest improvement, but in the group B can be seen mostly an improvement across the whole group. For the second...

Surface and Subsurface Flow Connection and Dominating Runoff Mechanism in Hillslope of Tarfala, Northern Sweden. / Dominerande avrinningsmekanism och koppling melllan yt- och markflöde i en sluttning i Tarfaladalen, norra Sverige.

Maharjan, Namika January 2023 (has links)
The Sub artic regions are becoming increasingly important due to the effects of climate change. In northern Sweden, thawing of permafrost has led to significant increases in annual minimum flows in several catchments. This has led to studies of groundwater flow, responses to precipitation and runoff, and subsurface connectivity of springs on slopes. However, there remains a limited understanding of the interplay between surface flow and subsurface flow in the hillslopes of subarctic region. There is a need to better understand the flow pathways and connectivity of groundwater flows within the slopes. This study aims to analyze the interactions between surface flow and subsurface flow on an Sub artic mountainside. Utilizing tracer experiments and a hydrological model, the complex dynamics governing water movement within this intricate system have been studied. Tracer experiments affirmed the hydraulic connection between hillslope and spring. The spring's response to tracer injection hinted at dominant preferential flow paths within the regolith layer's base. Nonetheless, only 40% mass recovery raised queries about factors affecting the flow in the hillslope. Thus, in this project, a model was developed using Advanced Terrestrial Simulator (ATS) to examine the dominant flow processes and evaluate the influence of various hydrogeology parameters and fluid flow properties on tracer movement. The results highlight the dominance of subsurface flows occurring close to the surface. The parameter sensitivity analysis conducted in the study showed that roughness coefficient and permeability significantly influenced specific pathways and directions that water, and tracers took as they moved through the hillslope's subsurface layers and regolith. However, the model has limitations, such as neglecting the lateral variations of the subsurface material, seasonal freeze-thaw processes and the simplified representation of the slope and catchment. The results of this study show the need for utilizing more field-based methodologies and further refinement of the modeling approach to improve our understanding of hydrologic processes in high latitude areas.

兩相依製程之調適性管制圖 / Adaptive Control Charts for Two Dependent Process Steps

蘇惠君 Unknown Date (has links)
In recent years, many research papers about adaptive control charts all consider a single process step. However, there are many multiple process steps in industry process. In this article, we propose adaptive control charts to monitor two dependent process steps, and their average time to signal (ATS) is calculated by Markov chain approach to measure the performance of these proposed control charts. It has been shown that the performance of the adaptive sampling interval (ASI) control charts in detecting small and moderate shifts in process means is better than the fixed sampling interval control charts, especially for small shifts, and the proposed adaptive sample size and sampling interval (ASSI) control charts have better performance in detecting very small shifts in process means than the fixed sample size and sampling interval control charts and the adaptive sample size control charts.

Sociologický výzkum televizního chování. Faktory ovlivňující dobu strávenou sledováním televize / Sociological research of TV audience behaviour. Factors determining the time spent watichng TV

Slavíčková, Veronika January 2011 (has links)
Sociological Research of TV Audience Behaviour Factors Determining The Time Spent Watching TV ABSTRACT The thesis deals with the phenomenon of TV viewing and with TV audience behaviour research. The theoretical part demarcates watching TV within leisure activities and deals with the question of motivation for watching TV as well. It also mentions the approach of people who intentionally try to exclude TV from their life. The text does not omit even the important contemporary determinants of watching TV - Internet and digitization of TV broadcasting. Subsequently, the main methods of TV audience behaviour research in the Czech Republic are introduced. In the empirical part, the main factors that most affect the time spent watching TV are being identified - first through separate elementary analyses and afterwards through searching for a regression model that would best predict the time spent watching TV for individuals and groups based on their socio-demographic and other characteristics. Keywords: television, time spent watching TV, watching TV, ATS, Peoplemeter, TVmeter, TV viewer, TV audience behaviour research

Management of Geohazards at Lihir Gold Mine-Papua New Guinea

Singh, Mohan 11 1900 (has links)
Lihir Gold Mine in Papua New Guinea is one of the largest gold mines in the world situated in a seismically sensitive zone. The gold deposit is located in an extinct volcano in close proximity to the sea shore and presents a series of geohazards. Some geohazards are uncommon and include: geothermal outbursts, cavities, water inrush and earthquake/ tsunami. After a major multi-batter (5 benches high) slope failure that occurred on the 1st of October 2009, a team of engineers, lead by the author investigated the incident and made series of recommendations. Arising out of these recommendations, a comprehensive Geohazard Management Plan was formulated by revisiting, revising and putting together all the individual geohazard management plans as a single document. This thesis describes the outcomes of the investigation and presents an overview and systematic approach in formulation of the Geohazard Management Plan, apart from a summary of the gaps that were identified in the existing system, major contributions that were made as well as the expected improvements and constraints in managing these geohazards. / Mining Engineering
