Non-conformal gauge/string duality : A rigorous case study

Chen-Lin, Xinyi January 2017 (has links)
The gauge/string duality, a.k.a. the holographic principle is a profound assertion that emerged from string theory. It relates strongly-coupled gauge theories to weakly coupled string theories living in a higher-dimensional curved geometry. Nevertheless, it is a conjecture, and only a few instances of its more concrete form, the AdS/CFT correspondence, are well-understood. The most well-studied example is the duality between N=4 SYM, which is a CFT, and type IIB string theory in AdS5xS5 background. Generalization to less symmetric cases is a must, and the next logical step is to add a mass scale to N=4 SYM, therefore breaking its conformal symmetry and leading to N=2* SYM, the theory we study in this thesis. It is supersymmetric enough to employ the powerful localization method that reduces its partition function to a matrix model. We will see that the mass scale causes non-trivial phase structures in its vacuum configuration, visible in the holographic regime. We will probe them using Wilson loops in different representations of the gauge group. On the other hand, the dual supergravity background was derived by Pilch-Warner, making N=2* theory an explicitly testable non-conformal holographic case, which is a rare example. We will prove that the duality works for the dual observables (string action, D-branes) we managed to compute, even at a quantum-level.

Internetový marketing kulturní instituce / Internet Marketing of Cultural Non-profit Organization

Pláteníková, Hana January 2017 (has links)
The thesis deals with characterization and comparison of two marketing tools on the Internet: Pay per click advertising in AdWords and advertising on the social media network Facebook. The theoretical part describes internet marketing as a complex system; it characterizes the specific advantages and limitations of individual input channels and current trends in their development. In the practical part, the best practices are applied to the advertising campaign of the cultural non-profit organization, the D21 Theater. Subsequently, the performance of each tool is evaluated within increased sessions and conversions in Google Analytics. At the end of the thesis, the recommendations are implemented to increase the effectiveness of the internet marketing of a cultural institution, based on the impact of advertisements and assessment of SEO optimization and web design.

Účinnost nástrojů internetového marketingu / The Efficiency of Online Marketing Tools

Mynář, David January 2016 (has links)
This Master´s Thesis characterizes and compares three tools of the performance marketing on the internet - Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Pay-per-click advertising (PPC) and Facebook Ads. The theoretical part analyses specific advantages and limitations of each tool and current trends in the development of these tools. The application part compares SEO, PPC and Facebook in terms of the price and quality of visits. The comparison is performed on the data of 74 clients of the Fresh Services digital agency, gathered from 2014 to 2016. It identifies significant differences in prices for the visit among instruments, while the revealed differences in conversion rates have not been proven to be statistically significant. The conclusion provides recommendations for applying these tools to a marketing of small and medium enterprises.

Dátová architektúra a dátové sklady v bankovníctve / Data architecture and data marts in banks

Juhás, Michal January 2008 (has links)
In this diploma thesis I analyze data architecture and data marts in a bank area. Firstly I analyze different theoretical approaches to build the data warehouse. Consequently I specialize in operational and analytical data marts -- I analyze their business value, differences and location at the warehouse. In the third chapter I analyze reasons that have led to implement Asset Liability Management data mart. In the following chapter I analyze a life-cycle of this data mart not only from the technical point of view, but also from the project management perspective. The main benefit from this thesis is in the analysis of these aspects of ALM life cycle.

Man kan inte springa ifrån ödet och inte annonserna : En kvalitativ fokusgruppsstudie i hur konsumenter uppfattar värdet av annonser på sociala medier

Juel, Bente January 2019 (has links)
Nyckelord: ”consumer attitudes”, ”consumer value”, ”ads on Facebook”, ”social network advertising” och ”Facebook advertising”

Field Theories à la Gravity: From Navier-Stokes to Superconductivity.

January 2020 (has links)
abstract: Recent developments inspired by string theoretic considerations provide multiple maps between gravitational and non-gravitational degrees of freedom. In this dis- sertation I discuss aspects of three such dualities, the gauge/gravity duality and how it applies to condensed matter systems, the fluid-gravity duality, and the color-kinematics duality. The first of these, colloquially referred to as holography, in its simplest form posits a mapping of d-dimensional conformal field theory (boundary) partition functions onto d+1 dimensional gravitational(bulk) partition functions, where the space-time carries a negative cosmological constant. In this dissertation I discuss the results of our calculations examining the emergence of Fermi-surface like structures in the bulk spacetime despite the absence of explicit Fermions in the theory.Specifically the 4+1 dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory with scalar degrees of freedom, with and without symmetry breaking is considered. These theories are gravity duals to spatially modulated gauge theories. The results of calculations presented here indicate the existence of a rich phase space, most prominently Fermi shells are seen. The second set of dualities considered are the color-kinematic duality, also known as the double-copy paradigm and the fluid-gravity duality. The color-kinematic duality involves identifying spin-2 amplitudes as squares of spin-1 gauge amplitudes. This double copy picture is utilized to construct “single copy” representations for space- times where Einstein’s equations reduce to incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. In this dissertation I show how spacetimes that characterize irrotational fluids and constant vorticity fluids each map to distinct algebraically special spacetimes. The Maxwell fields obtained via the double-copy picture for such spacetimes further provide interesting parallels, for instance, the vorticity of the fluid is proportional to the magnetic field of the associated gauge field. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Physics 2020

Emergence of Spacetime: From Entanglement to Einstein

January 2020 (has links)
abstract: Here I develop the connection between thermodynamics, entanglement, and gravity. I begin by showing that the classical null energy condition (NEC) can arise as a consequence of the second law of thermodynamics applied to local holographic screens. This is accomplished by essentially reversing the steps of Hawking's area theorem, leading to the Ricci convergence condition as an input, from which an application of Einstein's equations yields the NEC. Using the same argument, I show logarithmic quantum corrections to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy formula do not alter the form of the Ricci convergence condition, but obscure its connection to the NEC. Then, by attributing thermodynamics to the stretched horizon of future lightcones -- a timelike hypersurface generated by a collection of radially accelerating observers with constant and uniform proper acceleration -- I derive Einstein's equations from the Clausius relation. Based on this derivation I uncover a local first law of gravity, connecting gravitational entropy to matter energy and work. I then provide an entanglement interpretation of stretched lightcone thermodynamics by extending the entanglement equilibrium proposal. Specifically I show that the condition of fixed volume can be understood as subtracting the irreversible contribution to the thermodynamic entropy. Using the AdS/CFT correspondence, I then provide a microscopic explanation of the 'thermodynamic volume' -- the conjugate variable to the pressure in extended black hole thermodynamics -- and reveal the super-entropicity of three-dimensional AdS black holes is due to the gravitational entropy overcounting the number of available dual CFT states. Finally, I conclude by providing a recent generlization of the extended first law of entanglement, and study its non-trivial 2+1- and 1+1-dimensional limits. This thesis is self-contained and pedagogical by including useful background content relevant to emergent gravity. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Physics 2020
