Full and deficit irrigation in different phenological stages of the sunflower cultivation in the Ceara semiarid.
Crops have phenological stages with less susceptibility to water deficit, in which the strategy
of deficit irrigation management can be employed in order to maximize production per unit of
irrigation water. Thus, the purpose of this research was
to evaluate the responses of sunflower cultivation with full irrigation and with different water deficits durin
g its phenological stages in order to collect information on the technical feasibility of the
irrigation deficit in the sunflower crop, for the conditions of the semiarid in state of Ceara, Brazil.
In the field the experiment was conducted at Experimental Farm Vale do Curu, in Pentecoste (Ceara, Brazil) under experimental design of randomized blocks
with four replications and eight treatments,
defined in function of the time of water deficit induction in the three sunflower phenological stages (vegetative, flowering and production formation), corresponding to the occurrence of water deficit in one, two or three stages. The water deficit irrigation level employed consisted of half the irrigation evaluated as being full irrigation. All the cultural and phytosanitary
practices required was carried. In order to measure the effects of the treatments it was
evaluated, at the end of each developmental stage, the following variables: leaf temperature,
photosynthesis rates, transpiration, stomatal conductance, internal concentration of CO2, instantaneous efficiencies and intrinsic water use, plant height, quantity of leaf, stemdiameter, leaf area, dry biomass production of the constituents of the aerial part (stem, leaf, petiole and chapter) and the participation of each element in relation to the production of total dry matter (partition). On the occasion of harvest time, it was evaluated the
components of production (diameter of chapter, mass of 1000 achenes and oil and protein content), the
income potential of producing acheness, oil and
protein, and the indices of efficiency of water
use to produce achenes, oil and protein. The variables were subjected to statistical analysis,
performing analysis of variance (F test) and Tukey's test to compare means. It was also
determined the coefficients of sensitivity to water deficit (KY) isolated in stadiums and in the cycle of the crop through the relationship between relative income decrease and relative evapotranspiration deficit. The results presented that the temperature and leaf gas exchanges howed no effects of the applied water stresses, regardless of the time when these were
applied. The times of evaluation influenced all variables related to gas exchange, except for
the intrinsic efficiency of water use. The plant height, leaf number and stem diameter were
negatively affected by the isolated effects of irrigation deficits and evaluation times. The
irrigation deficit and the evaluation time interacted and affected leaf area, dry mass of leaf, petiole, stem, capitulum and total dry mass. The d
eficit irrigation did not change the partition
of dry matter. Changes were observed in capitulum diameter, in the mass of one thousand
achenes, in the achene oil content, in the achene, oil and protein production potentials, and in the water use efficiency in the production of achenes and oil (for the applied water deficits). The management strategy of
water deficit during the vegetative and flowering stages contributed to the achievement of an achene production potential at a level equivalent to that
achieved in cultivation with full irrigation
throughout the growing season. Regardless of the
phenological phase, the water deficit exerted a positive effect on the efficiency of water use in
the achene production. The incidence of water deficit during the flowering stage was more
advantageous to the efficiency of water use in oil production than at any other stage, and did not influence the efficiency of water use in protein production, regardless of phenological stage on which it happened. Sensitivity to water deficit quantified by the coefficient of sensitivity to water stress (K
Y) varied in the following decreasing order: production formation, vegetative and flowering, with water deficit occurring in only one developmental stage. For the deficit conditions in two stages, the coefficient KY showed that the lack of water has the greatest impact on sunflower achene yield when it occurs in both vegetative and production formation stages. As the K
Y values were less than 1 at all stages, it is concluded that the sun flower culture showed a low sensitivity to the water deficits applied, showing, therefore, vulnerability to water deficit irrigation practice throughout its cycle.

Previous issue date: 2009-03-16 / The success of any agricultural business based in commercial exploitation of plant
crops requires the use of high quality seeds, with potential to grow vigorous and high
yielding plants in a short period of time. Regarding to castor bean, there are few
articles related to seed production in Rio Grande do Sul. This work aimed to study
the seed production viability in southern of Rio Grande do Sul. There were carried
out experiments in two farms, season of 2006/07, in Canguçu, using IAC 80 and AL
Guarany 2002 cultivars, sowed in two different dates (November and December). It
was evaluated the agronomic performance of plants in the field and yield
components, as well as the physiological and physic quality of seeds from different
parts of raceme (divided in three parts) and different raceme-orders. These analyses
were conducted at Embrapa Clima Temperado, Pelotas/RS. According to the results,
it was observed genotype x environment interaction effects on the yield components
and physiological and physic quality of seeds in AL Guarany 2002 e IAC 80 cultivars,
considering that the first raceme-order seed position doesn t affect the seeds
physiological and physic quality. In AL Guarany 2002 , the seeds from the first and
second raceme-order presented quality, with no environment or sowing date
influence, meanwhile IAC 80 cultivar showed quality in November sowing, with no
environment influence. It is concluded that it is possible to produce seeds with
physiological and physic quality of castor bean in southern of Rio Grande do Sul.
O objetivo do
Grande do Sul.

Multi-Location Field Evaluation of Bambara Groundnut (Vigna Subterranean (L) Verdc) for Agronomic Performance and Seed Protein.Mogale, Tlou Elizabeth 18 May 2018 (has links)
MSCAGR (Plant Production) / Department of Plant Production / Bambara groundnut (Vigna subterranea) is one of the most important legumes cultivated
primarily for food by smallholder farmers in Africa. It is an affordable source of protein and
contributes to income generation as well as soil fertility. Despite its importance, it is cultivated
largely for subsistence purposes in South Africa. Growers use landraces. The agronomic
performance of the traditional varieties depends on environmental factors prevailing in a
particular area. In Limpopo and Mpumalanga Provinces, there is no adequate information
regarding the performance of bambara groundnut germplasm. The objectives of the study
were to (i) determine the agronomic performance of Bambara groundnut across three
contrasting locations in Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces over two cropping seasons (ii)
determine the genotypic variation in the seed protein level among 42 bambara groundnut
genotypes. Forty-two bambara groundnut genotypes were evaluated under three different
environmental conditions (Syferkuil, Thohoyandou and Nelspruit) over two (2013/2014,
2014/2015) seasons in a 7 × 6 rectangular lattice design replicated three times. Eight
agronomic traits including dry shoot weight (DSW), number of pods per plant (NPP), pod
length (PL), number of seed per pod (NSP), pod weight per plant (PWT), seed weight per plant
(SWT), 100 seed weight (100-SWT) and seed yield (SYLD) were measured. The results
showed that there were significant genotype x location interactions which demonstrated that
the prevailing agro-ecological conditions at the test locations were distinct from each other.
Five genotypes (‘BGN-19‘, ‘BGN-11‘, ‘BGN-12‘, ‘BGN-4‘and ‘BGN-34‘) attained >25.0% seed
yield advantage over the local check ‘BGN-39‘. The results also showed that light brown
coloured genotypes attained relatively higher seed yield compared to the other seed colours
types. The cultivar superiority index (CSI) showed that three genotypes (‘BGN-12‘, ‘BGN-19’
and ‘BGN-34’) were the most stable across the test locations and attained >900.0 kg/ha on
average. There were significantly high positive correlations between PWT and each of the
three other attributes (SWT, 100 SWT and SYLD). In terms of seed protein, the results showed
a poor relationship between seed yield and protein levels. ‘BGN-12’ which produced the
highest seed yield, attained the lowest percent seed protein while genotype. On average, the
genotypes contained 21.72% protein. The highest and lowest seed protein quantities were
attained by the genotypes ‘BGN-42’ (25.17%) and ‘BGN-12’ (19.89%) respectively. / NRF

As lavouras
Temperado, Estação Experimental de Terras Baixas (ETB) situado no município do
Capão do Leão-RS.
BRS Pampa, sobretudo no período reprodutivo.
A produtividade do arroz apresentou
terras baixas no Rio Grande do Sul. / Rice is a basic food for more than half of world population. Rice crops are almost
totally irrigated by flood, a system with high water demand. In order to decrease
water use in rice crops, farmers start to adopt the sprinkler irrigation. However, there
is little knowledge concerning the adaptation of rice crop to aerobic conditions, mainly
about rice water needs, since this information wasn’t necessary in flood irrigation.
This work aimed to determine the relationship between rice yield and soil available
water and the effect of different soil water tensions on rice crop agronomic
performance. A field experiment was conducted at Embrapa Clima Temperado,
Estação Experimental Terras Baixas (ETB) located in the municipality of Capão do
Leão-RS. In the agricultural harvests 2011/2012, 2012/2013 e 2013/2014 in a
sprinkler irrigated area, these irrigation management were evaluated: 10kPaIrrigation when the average of the soil water tension was 10kPa, during all crop cycle;
20kPa- Irrigation when the average of the soil water tension was 20kPa, during all
crop cycle; 40kPa - Irrigation when the average of the soil water tension was 40kPa,
during all crop cycle; 40/20kPa - Irrigation in the vegetative stage, when the average
of the soil water tension was 40kPa, and irrigation in the reproductive stage when the
average of the soil water tension was 20kPa and 40/10kPa Irrigation in the vegetative
stage, when the average of the soil water tension was 40kPa, and irrigation in the
reproductive stage when the average of the soil water tension was 10kPa. For each
treatment Watermark sensors were installed at a depth of 10cm to monitor the soil
water tension. The sensor installation point corresponds to the center of an
experimental unit whose area was 4m2. In each experimental unit, soil water tension,
chemical and physical soil attributes and the rice crop agronomic performance and
yield were determined. The results showed that increasing soil water tension
decreases sprinkler irrigated rice yield. Soil water tension of 10kPa, which
corresponds to this soil field capacity, is the appropriate value for sprinkler irrigation
management to rice crop, BRS Pampa variety, mainly in the reproductive period. The
spatial variability of soil water tension has an effect on spatial distribution of the
sprinkler irrigated rice yield. The closer to 40 kPa is the soil water tension smaller the
plant height and the number of filled grains per panicle. However, no effect was
observed on the number of stems per meter, 1000 grains weight, and spikelet
sterility. The rice yield showed a positive relation with the variables microporosity,
phosphorus and potassium available in the soil; an opposite behavior was found for
macroporosity and aluminum saturation variables. The relationship between soil
water tension and physico-chemical soil attributes is crucial to determine the
variability of the rice yield irrigated by sprinkler in lowland areas in the Rio Grande do
Sul state.
