This thesis contends that the current attempts by the Russian Federation to assert its influence in the Western Pacific region through naval power are destined to fail. President Vladimir Putin appears determined to make the Russian Federation a prominent actor in the region through the assertion of Russian naval power, and by forming an alliance of convenience with the PRC to minimize U.S. influence in the region. Four reasons provide an explanation for what will be Moscowαs ultimate failure to influence events in the Western Pacific region. First, historically Russia has proven unable to sustain a naval build-up. Second, Russiaαs major interests lie in the Europe. Third, the Russian Federation has limited common interests with the countries of the Western Pacific region beyond residual anti-Americanism. Finally, arms sales provide only short-term leverage in the projection of international influence. / US Navy (USN) author

The Birth of a Nation is one of the most controversial motion picture of the history of cinema and intent to show the story of the American Civil War and the Reconstruction of the South in the United States. The felling of nostalgia of his director, D. W. Griffith for the little white communities and its Protestantism and traditionalism approach the history of the film to the concept of Americanism before the First World War. The analyze of the film it s been made through the biography of his director, the period in which the film has been made called progressivism and the way how the historiography approach the same theme of the film / O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar o conceito de americanismo no filme O Nascimento de uma Nação. Um dos filmes mais controversos da história do cinema procurou mostrar a história da Guerra de Secessão e da Reconstrução no Sul dos Estados Unidos. O sentimento de nostalgia de seu diretor D. W. Griffith pelas pequenas comunidades brancas protestantes e pelo tradicionalismo aproximam a história do filme ao conceito de americanismo anterior a Primeira Guerra Mundial. A análise do filme foi feita através da biografia de seu diretor, do estudo do período em que o filme foi realizado chamado de progressivismo e pelo modo como a historiografia abordou o mesmo tema do filme

This study examines German-U.S. relations during the George W. Bush administration. It utilizes Peter J. Katzenstein and Robert O. Keohane's theoretical framework of anti-Americanism to examine German perceptions of U.S. foreign policy. Katzenstein and Keohane distinguish four distinctive types of anti-Americanism. Liberal anti-Americanism is a reaction to unpopular U.S. foreign policies. Social anti-Americanism occurs in response to U.S. style capitalism and U.S. society. Sovereign-nationalist anti-American is a nationalistic response to the superpower's perceived intrusion on state sovereignty. Radical anti-Americanism is a Leninist or radical Islamic response to U.S. power. I hypothesize that anti-Americanism in German is primarily a political reaction to the policies of the Bush administration. However the negative attitudes towards U.S. foreign policy also manifest themselves in the form of the social and sovereign types of anti-Americanism. / Master of Arts

It was structured in order to offer a vision of the world conjuncture of the time, of Brazilian politics before the United States of America, the creation of Goiânia and its first cinemas . The primary source was the Jornal Folha de Goiaz and its contents related to the announced houses of cinema: Cine Campinas, Cine Goiaz, Cine Santa Maria and Cine Teatro Goiânia. Divided into three chapters, it first deals with the relationship between the United States of America and Brazil and the political aspects in the 1940s and 1950s. Following is an exposition about the American influence in the Brazilian press. It also brings, in the last chapter, the quantitative results on gender and origin of the films cataloged in the period. The results are sampled in the first half of 1950. / Este trabalho verifica a inserção do americanismo em Goiânia por meio do cinema do início de 1950. Foi estruturado de modo a oferecer uma visão da conjuntura mundial da época, da política brasileira diante dos Estados Unidos da América, a criação de Goiânia e seus primeiros cinemas. A fonte primária foi o Jornal Folha de Goiaz e seu conteúdo relacionado às casas de espetáculo anunciadas: Cine Campinas, Cine Goiaz, Cine Santa Maria e Cine Teatro Goiânia. Dividida em três capítulos aborda primeiramente a relação entre Estados Unidos da América e o Brasil e os aspectos políticos nos anos 40 e 50. Seguindo realiza uma exposição sobre a influência americana na imprensa brasileira. Traz ainda, no último capítulo, os resultados quantitativos sobre gênero e procedência dos filmes catalogados no período. Os resultados apresentados têm como amostragem o primeiro semestre de 1950.
