Pena Ibarra, Luis Patricio 04 1900 (has links)
The present study pertains to a complex and polysemic phenomenon that has preoccupied people working in the field of education since at least thirty years, that is, school violence. Using factor analysis, analysis of variance and multivariate analysis of covariance, this research aims at exploring specifically the relationship between school climate, school context and the various roles adopted by students at the high school level when they face a situation in which school violence in present. Data for this study were collected by Michel Janosz and his team in 2010, within four schools, all in the same school board of the Montreal region. The original sample comprises 1750 students who attend both standard special classes, between 10 and 18 years of age. The analyses presented are based on a reduced sample where the special classes and the two small schools have been withdrawn. Therefore, the answers from 1551 student s are used. The results show that first, there is a significant relationship between the various dimensions of school climate and the different roles adopted by students facing a situation in which violence is present, perceptions of belonging and of security being the most important. Second, all things being equal, there are significant difference between schools, and school levels.

Variabilidade espacial e tamanho de parcela em experimentos com culturas olerícolas / Spatial variability and size of plot in experiments with vegetable crops

Santos, Daniel 20 February 2013 (has links)
Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / The study aimed to test the efficiency of the method Papadakis on increasing the quality of experiments with snap beans, zucchini, peppers and lettuce, and having efficiency, determine how to estimate the covariate and plot size for use in experiments where apply the method. The definition of the form of estimated covariate that provides greater efficiency and calculation method Papadakis plot size adjusted for use in this method were made from the following blank experiments: two experiments with zucchini, lettuce with eight, five-bean pod and two peppers. In experiments with zucchini, pole beans and peppers, the variable was the weight of fruits and lettuce in experiments with variable mass was fresh shoot. The effectiveness of the use of analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) with the covariate estimated by Papadakis was tested from treatment experiments: one with the bell pepper crop, where the variable was the weight of fruit and one with lettuce crop where the variable was the fresh weight of shoots. The use of ANCOVA with the covariate estimated by Papadakis increases the quality of experiments with vegetable crops. The covariate that provides the highest efficiency ANCOVA is that which is determined considering a portion neighboring each side of the reference portion towards the row of plants. The plot size in the crop row, adjusted for method, is 10 plants (2.0 m) for snap beans, five plants (4.5 m) to zucchini, five plants (1.5 m ) for chili, and four plants (1.2 m) for lettuce.

The purpose of this work is to present a complete methodology for observability analysis of electric power systems. The observability of the network is determined from the trace of the covariance matrix of the measurement estimate, the variance of the estimated power flow allow the identification of observable islands and the restoration of observability is performed from the variance of the measurement estimate. The variances required are obtained from the regularized linearized gain matrix. Besides the measurements available, in the formation of regularized gain matrix allows the existence of voltage angle pseudomeasurements on all buses of the network. The regularized least squares power system state estimation and the methodology of analysis of the variance of the estimated power flow is based in [Almeida, Garcia e Asada, 2011]. The new contributions of this work are the observability checking mechanism, based on the trace of the covariance matrix of the measurement estimate, the mechanism of restoration of observability, developed from the analysis of variance of the measurement and the inclusion of synchronized phasor measurement in the mathematical formulation utilized / Mestrado / Energia Eletrica / Mestre em Engenharia Elétrica

Augmenting Annual Runoff Records Using Tree-Ring Data

Stockton, Charles W., Fritts, Harold C. 23 April 1971 (has links)
From the Proceedings of the 1971 Meetings of the Arizona Section - American Water Resources Assn. and the Hydrology Section - Arizona Academy of Science - April 22-23, 1971, Tempe, Arizona / Statistical analyses of existing hydrologic records suffer from the problem that such records are of relatively short duration, and therefore may not necessarily be random samples of the infinite population of events. On the hypothesis that tree-ring series and runoff series respond to a common climatic signal or signals that permit prediction of annual runoff from annual ring-width index, tree-ring data are used to extend available runoff records backwards in time to permit more accurate estimates of the 3 most common statistics used in hydrology: the mean, the variance and the 1st order correlation. It is assumed that both series are generated by the climatic parameters of precipitation, temperature, evapotranspiration, seasonal regime and spatial distribution. Of major concern in the reconstruction of annual runoff series from tree-ring records was the difference in persistence within each of the 2 series. A matrix of the tree-ring data was constructed, lagged up to 3 times and principal components were extracted. The covariation in this matrix was then decomposed by extracting the Eigen-vectors, and multiple regression was then used to weight the respective series and the differences in persistence were determined. This method was applied to watersheds of diverse characteristics and improved estimates of the mean and variance were obtained.
