Head Chop : Acéphale and community in the works of Bataille, Blanchot, and Nancy

Fletcher, Joseph Daniel January 2018 (has links)
Head Chop is a practice-led research project exploring the thinking of community found within the works of Georges Bataille, Jean-Luc Nancy, and Maurice Blanchot. Using the central exchange between Nancy and Blanchot, as found in the triple intersection of texts composed of Nancy's Inoperative Community, Blanchot's The Unavowable Community, and finally Nancy's recent The Disavowed Community, Head Chop draws upon the interfaces of these three works to develop a reading of community. Utilising the concept of fictioning, an imaging of possible worlds, as its primary methodology, Head Chop develops a narrativised analysis of community. The story of Acéphale, Bataille's secret society, provides the structuring fiction of the work. This story is developed from a synthesis of fragmentary accounts of the Acéphale group's sacrificial ambition, and the illustrations of the Acéphale journal. The result is a tale of a human sacrifice from which the being Acéphale subsequently arises. In tracing the relation of the work of Nancy and Blanchot to the work of Bataille, Head Chop draws attention to the role of the figure of Acéphale for Bataille, and its subsequent insinuation in the work of Nancy and Blanchot. The figure of Acéphale operates as an editorial device that structures and informs the readings of these works as a common grounding and central problematic. This situates the readings of Bataille, Nancy and Blanchot in a contested frame of reference by attempting to accommodate an alternate version of the sacrificial event. Head Chop finds a basis for its methodological investigation in Deleuze and Guattari's work What is Philosophy? Excising and developing a series of figures and conceptual tools from the works of Nancy, Blanchot and Bataille, Head Chop develops a crossing of these figures and concepts as characters within the broader narrative of Acéphale. Following this methodological approach, Head Chop traces series of connected concepts in the works of Nancy and Blanchot. In developing these connections in relation to the Acéphale narrative, conceptual structures engaged in the thinking of community are drawn out into the broader contexts of Nancy and Blanchot's work. These connections are traced in Nancy through addressing such notions as the deconstruction of the subject, the question of authenticity in Heidegger, a re-reading of Heideggeran ontology that privileges Mitsein, and the singular plural. In Blanchot conceptual connections are similarly traced, beginning from the foundational role of the other, the challenging passion of lovers, through to death, unworking, and the question of testimony. In developing a narrativised analysis of the figure of Acéphale, Head Chop aims to open new channels of inquiry into the concept of community as it arises between the works of Bataille, Blanchot and Nancy. Research questions: How does a re-imaging of the Acéphale story, in which Acéphale is begotten, engage with Bataille, Nancy and Blanchot's readings of community? What is to be gained from the use of a re-imagined Acéphale story in a thinking of community?

David a Goliáš: Narativní analýza 1S 17 / David and Goliath: A Narrative Analysis of 1 Samuel 17

Verzichová, Klára January 2013 (has links)
The task of diploma thesis "David and Goliath: A Narrative Analysis of 1 Samuel 17 ", is to analyze one of the most famous biblical stories through the methods of naratology and give a view on the text through various narrative categories. The greater part of this thesis will deal with exploring the characters, the dialogue, the role of the narrator, the implied reader, the events in the story, focalization and other categories. At the conclusion, there is a small excursus with a historical perspective on the story of David and Goliath. The excursus helps to place the text into a specific historical context and it also important for understanding the overall meaning of the text. The conclusion of this thesis presents to us a meaning of the story about the battle of David and Goliath. In this thesis I used narrative analysis in combination with a historical approach, and I can say that the story has two dimensions: the first dimension is focus on the individual and indicates who follows the path of Saul and the Israeli army hasn't future. But who follows the way of David and Jesse, follows the way of God, that is a very important for a human. The story offers hope for people. Goliath is a symbol of the threat of faith, religious identity and political freedom. Conversely, David symbolizes hope for...

Pointed by the critical tradition as an in-between novel from the author’s romantic and realist phases, the question that guides this research is that of investigating whether, and to which extent, it would be possible to detect in the narrative structure, especially in the narrator’s point of view, this transitional place between the two aesthetic-literary paradigms by observing the characters Iaiá Garcia, Estela and Jorge – which form the amorous triangle in the plot. We assumed the hypothesis that the narrator has a preponderant role in the construction of the narrative by positioning itself halfway between omniscience and loss of control over the characters, by conveying a dialogic discourse that highlights irony. Furthermore, this is what we could call a chess-player narrator, one who condones the female characters’ – Estela and Iaiá – moves in the chess game; one who detaches itself from the enunciation to the enunciated – chapter XII –, and one whose focus is on the amorous triangle Estela-Jorge-Iaiá – the chess piece used by the ironist narrator to criticize romantic love, with its excesses and fanciful idealizations, and to project another sort of love, driven by reason and logic. As theoretical underpinning, we used Wayne C. Booth (1964) on the telling-showing distinction and on the types of narration; Mikhail Bakhtin (2011) on polyphony, alterity and dialogism, as well as Linda Hutcheon (2000) and her studies on irony. The analysis of the narrative discourse showed that the narrator’s detachment lies upon strategies of telling and showing, applied to interval tones whether of free indirect discourse or irony. Thus, it is possible to observe the existence of a literary project thought by Machado de Assis, which sets new paradigms regarding the narrator’s position, often distrusted in the omniscient mode; the creation of characters, made more autonomous and responsible for their viewpoints; and finally, the reader, from whom the reading will require more than fondness for Romanesque adventures, typical of feuilleton novels / O objetivo deste trabalho é o de analisar o movimento do narrador de Iaiá Garcia (1878), de Machado de Assis, no limiar entre a confiabilidade e a não confiabilidade, investindo na ambivalência e na ironia.

Ruská informační válka v pobaltských státech a její dopady na společnost / Russian information warfare in the Baltic states and its impact on the society

Andrle, Vít January 2021 (has links)
This diploma thesis analyses the phenomenon of the Russian information warfare targeting the Baltic states - Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. In five chapters the thesis initially theoretically examines phenomenon of the information warfare itself, specifically its typical components and advantages because of which the Russian Federation uses it. After that, the thesis estimates conceptual preconditions and incentives in the Baltic region due to which Russia implements the information warfare specifically in this region. The information warfare in this sense is understood as the psychological pressure onto the society of Baltics, hence, as one of the tools to enforce the interests and goals of the Kremlin's official foreign policy, because the initiators of such information campaigns are the Russian state media or their proxies. Third, in the empirical part, based the conceptually determined factors and particular events related to them, thesis thoroughly deals with discourses and narratives spread through the Russian and pro-Russian media operating in the Baltic states. More specifically, the analysis conducts research of the content of these narratives, their rhetoric, specific features, context and possible impacts onto the society in the Baltics. The goal of this thesis is to analyse thoroughly...

Histoires de mariage- Une contribution à l’histoire des formes narratives à la Renaissance : le mariage dans la fiction narrative française (1515-1559) / Marriage stories- A Contribution to the History of Narrative Forms during the Renaissance : Marriage in the French Narrative Fiction (1515-1559)

Dion, Laetitia 09 February 2012 (has links)
In most cases, studies devoted to the representation of marriage in narrative texts of the 16th century aim to link the image of the marriage bond as elaborated in the narratives to the controversies of the time. In order to show how the theme of marriage has played a part in the development of the narrative genre in the French Renaissance, we have decided to combine such an approach, which is rather based on the history of ideas, with an analysis of literary styles. We have conducted our survey on a set of twelve prose narrative fictions written in French between 1515 and 1559. Marriage was then at the heart of many theological-political controversies and married life started to be seen in a new light. Basing our work on historical contextualization, we have intertwined a thematic approach with a reflection on narrative poetics so as to study the plot structure and characterization as well as the didactic and hermeneutic systems of the texts. Comparing these narratives with other literary works – contemporary or prior, French or foreign – has enabled us to highlight a renewal of the narrative matter related to marriage themes during that period. The emphasis put on certain matrimonial situations and the related specific challenges in those days created favourable grounds for the advent of innovative narrative structures. Marriage stories have particularly contributed to orienting short stories towards the style of tragic stories and to giving birth to original novelistic forms in which the early stirrings of the style of the sentimental novel can be seen.

O intérprete educacional de língua brasileira de sinais (IELIBRAS) atuante na UFS : em cena a construção de sua identidade profissional / The educational interpreter of brazilian language of signs (IELIBRAS) active at UFS : on the scene the construction of his professional identity

Santos Filho, Genivaldo Oliveira 22 February 2018 (has links)
The role of the Libras Educational Interpreter is of great importance because it gives the deaf student access to knowledge. It is necessary, however, to prepare this professional so that his identity is recognized. This research aims to understand and analyze, based on narratives, how the professional identity of the Libras Educational Interpreter has been constructed in the context of the Federal University of Sergipe. In the empirical scenario of the research, the presence of this professional was highlighted as of 2011, in particular, under Law 12,319 / 2010. Under these circumstances, it is asked: how the Libras Educational Interpreter has been building his professional identity at the Federal University of Sergipe? The methodological path, of qualitative exploratory character, gained direction through narratives of the subjects chosen for this purpose - Libras Educational Interpreters. As a theoretical contribution, researchers and scholars were consulted, such as Perlin (2006), Gesser (2006), Schein (1996) on identity; Constâncio (2010), Martins (2009), Gurgel (2010) for the Interpreter in higher education. Questionnaires were also used composed of open and closed questions with the purpose of tracing the profile of professional interpreters. The analysis of the data was obtained taking as a starting point the Critical Narrative Analysis (ACN), from Mota (2013), with an acute reading of the text on a phenomenological look and circular hermeneutical technique of pre-comprehension and understanding of the phenomenon studied. And so, the narrative is divided into three expressive discursive instances, namely: it begins with the language resource (Content plane), running through the meaning effect (Language plan) and arrives at the moral of the story.( world model plan). The results were obtained from the following episodes: Formation of being an interpreter; Function of the interpreter; Identification with work; Professional dilemmas; Pathways to valorization. These episodes demonstrate that, in the narratives, many factors contribute to the construction of the professional identity, since, for the narrators of the research, the presence of the educational interpreter causes that the deaf university students have, besides the access to the knowledge, the opportunity education and, in fact, the expansion of the educational space. And so, the interpreters conclude that they intermediation between all the involved ones - teachers, students and servers -, and in the way, also, contribute to the constitution of Education Inclusive University.
