In this work, we compare techniques related to real-time data visualization to contribute to more efficient monitoring of the cold chain. Three real-time data display attributes were evaluated, and we constructed a dataset based on the Frisbee database (CDD). In this paper, we proposed graphics containing different line and area techniques to be evaluated for a specialist. The proposed graphs contained the line and area techniques that, when performing the experiment, obtained a higher success rate compared to the auto-charting technique. However, it was evidenced that elements such as color facilitate the detection of anomalies and trends in temperature change due to its high percentage of effectiveness in the results. / Revisión por pares

Effects of microbial interactions on gene expression during the wood decay processMangum, Lee Christopher 08 August 2009 (has links)
Real-time RT-PCR was used to assess the effects of interspecific microbial interactions on the expression of genes associated with lignin peroxidase, manganese peroxidase and alcohol oxidase production during the wood decay process. Expression levels of genes encoding the selected lignolytic enzymes were quantitated in one-, two- and multiple-organism interaction tests with the basidiomycetes Trametes elegans, Phanerochaete chrysosporium, Gloeophyllum sepiarium and Gloeophyllum trabeum. Compression strength loss was measured for each decay sample and correlated with gene expression data for each species. Soil microflora actively producing lignolytic enzymes during wood decay were also assessed and identified using degenerative PCR coupled with denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis, cloning and cycle sequencing. Differential expression was detected in three genes in the two-organism interaction tests: manganese peroxidase in T. elegans interactions, lignin peroxidase A in P. chrysosporium interactions and alcohol oxidase in G. sepiarium interactions. A positive linear correlation was observed between lignin peroxidase A expression and compression strength loss in P. chrysosporium interactions.

In this study, built in performance counters are used to identify limits of a prototype real time map web application running in the Google Chrome browser on a desktop PC. The context in which the application is intended for use is one of distributed simulation. This provides the variable conditions of update frequency and number of (simulated) entities to be displayed on the map. The performance counters log the utilization of memory and CPU on the client machine, and in addition to these a metric called delay time is calculated to see how the time used to handle a certain amount of entities relates to the given time interval, determined by the update frequency. Two specific use cases in the simulation context are defined and tested, as well as baselines of browser idle use, local rendering, and excluded rendering. Furthermore, ranges of the variable conditions are tested with the other condition fixed, to see how different combinations of frequency and entity number affect resource use and delay times. Findings include that the high frequency use case results in a continuously high delay time and is not feasible for use without further optimization. Additionally, the application is unlikely to perform better given less communication since rendering and scripting impact resource use the most. The use of memory is not significantly increased from idle use at any time and CPU use is limited by the single threaded parsing of JavaScript resulting in a highest percentage of non-idle time during a test of 31%. Lastly, the growth of delay time occur later in terms of entity updates per second when the number of entities is relatively low and the update frequency is high, as opposed to a lower frequency and a higher number of entities.

Route Choice Behavior in a Driving Simulator With Real-time InformationTian, Hengliang 01 January 2010 (has links) (PDF)
This research studies travelers' route choice behavior in a driving simulator with real-time information en-route. We investigate whether travelers plan strategically for real-time information en-route or simply select a fixed path from origin to destination at the beginning of a trip, and whether network complexity and a parallel driving task affect subjects' strategic thinking ability. In this study, strategic thinking refers to a traveler's route choice decision taking into account future diversion possibilities downstream enabled by information at the diversion node. All of the subjects in this study participated in driving-simulator-based tests while half of the subjects participated in additional PC-based tests. Three types of maps were used. The first type required a one-time choice at the beginning of a trip to test the traveler's risk attitude. The other two types offered route choices both at the beginning of and during a trip to test the traveler's strategic thinking. The study shows that a significant portion of route choice decisions are strategic in a realistic driving simulator environment. Furthermore, different network complexities impose different cognitive demands on a subject and affect his/her strategic thinking ability. A subject tends to be more strategic in a simple network. Lastly, a parallel driving task does not significantly affect a subject's strategic thinking ability. This seemingly counterintuitive conclusion might be caused by the simplicity of the tested network.

This thesis presents an approach to real-time image enhancement using texture synthesis. Traditional image enhancement techniques are typically time consuming, lack realistic detail, or do not scale well for large magnification factors.Real-time Enhancement using Texture Synthesis (RETS) combines interpolation, classification, and patch-based texture synthesis to enhance low-resolution imagery, particularly aerial imagery. RETS uses as input a low-resolution source image and several high-resolution sample textures. The output of RETS is a high-resolution image with the structure of the source image, but with detail consistent with the high-resolution sample textures. We show that RETS can enhance large amounts of imagery in real-time. Our implementation can produce over twenty-five million pixels per second on an average PC.

A Rotorcraft UAV provides an ideal experimental platform for vision-based navigation. This thesis describes the flight tests of the US Army PALACE pro ject, which implements Moravec's pseudo-normalized correlation tracking algorithm. The tracker uses the movement of the landing site in the camera, a laser range, and the aircraft attitude from an IMU to estimate the relative motion of the UAV. The position estimate functions as a GPS equivalent to enable the rotorcraft to maneuver without the aid of GPS. Flight tests were performed with obstacles and over concrete, asphalt, and grass in daylight conditions with a safe landing area determined by a separate method. The tracking algorithm and position estimation performance are compared to GPS. Accurate time synchronization of the inputs to the position estimation algorithm directly affect the closed-loop stability of the system, proportional with altitude. By identifying the frequency response of each input and adding filters to delay some of the inputs, the closed-loop system maintains stable flight above 18 m above ground, where the system was unstable without the additional filters.

In modern user-centric applications, data gathering and analysis is often of vitalimportance. Current trends in data management software show that traditionalrelational databases fail to keep up with the growing data sets. Outsourcingdata analysis often means data is locked in with a particular service, makingtransitions between analysis systems nearly impossible. This thesis implementsand evaluates a data analysis framework implemented completely within a re-lational database. The framework provides a structure for implementations ofonline algorithms of analytical methods to store precomputed results. The re-sult is an even resource utilization with predictable performance that does notdecrease over time. The system keeps all raw data gathered to allow for futureexportation. A full implementation of the framework is tested based on thecurrent analysis requirements of the company Shortcut Labs, and performancemeasurements show no problem with managing data sets of over a billion datapoints. / I moderna användarcentrerade applikationer är insamling och analys av dataofta av affärskritisk vikt. Resultatetblir en jämn resursanvändning med förutsägbar prestanda som inte försämrasöver tid. Ramverket sparar även all insamlad data vilket möjliggör exporter-ing.
