Woman is an ever-present image in the prose poems Nadja, L'amour fou and Arcane 17 by Andre Breton. While the image incorporates several autobiographical references, this is not the revelation. With textual recurrence forming a thematic, topical thread, the image is seen in its poetic, symbolic and mythical dimensions. Woman offers a surrealist poet a rhetorical gift. In these works the image of woman acquires symbolic value. It is identified with Nature in its cosmic, telluric reality, rooted in the unconscious in its oneiric reality. It is epiphanic in that it gives access to the Other's vision. To the poet it represents, to use Carl Jung's hermeneutic, the archetypal figure of the Anima. In its mythical dimensions, finally, the image calls forth the great visions of femininity: Muse, Sprite, Fairy, Elf, Virgin...

This thesis proposes a general overview of the three principal critical approaches to images of female madness in the work of Andre Breton, more specifically in his narrative Nadja. Grounded, respectively, in a Freudian, a feminist and a mythocritical perspective, these approaches tend to present a negative vision of Nadja's madness. After examining the arguments made by proponents of each approach, this study seeks to lay the foundations for positive analyses which will allow for the rehabilitation of female madness and the foregrounding of the link between insanity and female identity. Breton at once desired and fostered this feminine condition, which he deemed to be essential to creation and the discovery of the secret meaning of life: the marvelous. While it may convey disconcerting qualities, female madness is portrayed as noble and exceptional in this unique book whose title is the Russian word for hope.

Andre Pieyre de Mandiargues' Le musee noir is a collection of short stories insidiously permeated by the monster figure in its most diverse forms. Far from being reduced to a simple thematic function, this omnipresence of the monstrous contributes to making the collection truly a whole by instilling it with an internal mode of operation. This rhetoric of the monstrous directs both the collection and each of the stories, all the while driving their dynamic of the fantastic. / The mandiarguian text acquires its fantastic dimension through a progressive transformation of the protagonist's point of view, inciting him to perceive his environment as a gigantic monstrous entity. Contact with this entity causes the protagonist's own personality to be replaced by that of the monster. Yet it is the woman who, as a representative of the sacred in the logic of fantastic stories, remains in Mandiargues' text the best incarnation of the monstrous figure. Man, who represents the profane, will emerge contaminated by the sacred from his encounter with the monstrous and devouring woman. This contagion is incarnated by the androgynous figure, which remains most convincingly represented within this work by the negro. Finally, by comparing Mandiargues' writing devices with the techniques used in horror museums of old for monsters stage exhibitions, we will be able to confirm our initial hypothesis: the monster figure, by being the motor of the fantastic element dynamic, is essential to the unity of the collection. / The second part of this work in literary creation is a collection of fantastic short stories, all of which feature the same troubling presence. This presence possesses several characteristics of the monster figure, as seen in the work of Mandiargues.

Para isso realizou-se análise e identificação do acervo destinado a formação de professores, selecionando livros ainda presentes nesse espaço e observando parte desse material, a fim de compreender os ideais de formação de professores por eles veiculados. A leitura e análise dessas fontes foi realizada considerando aspectos de sua materialidade entendida como elementos que permeiam o texto desde a escrita do autor, passando pela editoração, até as formas pelas quais ele chega ao leitor, e que dão sentido ao texto. Assim, como forma de identificar de que maneira o ensino de saberes considerados importantes para a formação de professoras, se configurou no espaço escolar, foi realizada leitura abrangente das fontes, sendo considerados os elementos presentes no texto, bem como aqueles externos a ele, tomados os autores e sua formação, a editora, coleções a que pertencem, estilo de escrita, conteúdo, autores citados, correntes de pensamento explícitas, contexto espaçotemporal em que se inserem bem como todo e qualquer elemento que possa determinar ou sugerir indícios da cultura pedagógica veiculada por esses impressos. Foi possível observar que os livros disponíveis na biblioteca inserem-se em um conjunto de impressos que baseiam-se nos preceitos do movimento Escola Nova voltada para uma educação cristã, com base na formação do aluno e da família / This master's research, funded by Capes, aims identify cultural practices that were established in the school library “Joaquim Nabuco” considered the place of circulation of knowledge in the training of teachers through the use of books for educational destination in the library. For this analysis and identification was performed of the acquis for teacher training by selecting books that are still preserved in this space and looking at some of this material, to understand the ideals of teacher training by them running. The reading and analysis of these sources was carried out considering aspects of their materiality understood as elements that permeate the text from the author's writing, through the editing, to the ways in which it reaches the reader, and making sense of text. This way, in order to identify how the teaching of knowledge considered important for the teachers formation, if configured in school, was done comprehensive reading of the sources, the elements being considered in the text, as well as those external to it, taken the authors and their formation, publisher collections to which they belong, writing style, content, authors cited, explicit currents of thought spatio-temporal context in which they live as well as any element that can determine or suggest evidence pedagogical culture conveyed by these forms. It was observed that the books available in the library are inserted into a set of books that are based on the precepts of the New School movement toward a Christian education, based on the family and student's education

Para tanto, são apresentados aspectos relativos às relações entre Literatura e Cinema, adaptação, narração cinematográfica e tradições narrativas. Assumindo o romance machadiano como inserido no gênero da sátira menipéia, com base nas teorias literárias de Mikhail Bakhtin e teorias cinematográficas de Robert Stam, busca-se analisar os filmes ressaltando as convergências, divergências e afinidades entre as obras e o romance. Sobretudo tendo em vista que ao se filiarem a diferentes tradições narrativas cinematográficas, os cineastas valorizaram facetas diferenciadas da obra original para a criação de uma nova obra artística. _______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This paper analyses the cinematographic adaptations of Machado de Assis’ novel Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas, directed respectivelly by Julio Bressane (Brás Cubas, 1985) and André Klotzel (Memórias Póstumas, 2001), as well as how the particularities of the original text’s narrative genre was solved in each adaptation. An emphasis is given to the relationship between Literature and Cinema, adaptation, cinematographic narration and narrative traditions. Assuming that Machado’s novel takes part of Menippean satire, based on Mikhail Bakhtin’s theory of literature and Robert Stam’s theory of cinema, both films are analysed with focus on convergencies, divergencies and affinities between the films and the novel. Thus, by following different cinematographic narrative traditions, each filmmaker values different aspects of the novel as he creates another work of art.

Para tanto, foram descritas e analisadas as políticas de desenvolvimento econômico local propostas pelo Banco Mundial e pelas administrações municipais de Porto Alegre e de Santo André. Inicialmente, são discutidas as principais transformações histórico-econômicas que proporcionaram a maior inserção de governos subnacionais na esfera do desenvolvimento econômico, especialmente as transformações do modo de financiamento da economia capitalista. Em seguida, procurou-se apresentar algumas questões que envolvem o marco analítico do desenvolvimento econômico local, como as dificuldades para enquadrá-lo como problema teórico e uma compilação da literatura sobre o tema. Partindo-se para os estudos de caso, foram apresentadas as principais transformações que inseriram o Banco Mundial em ações de âmbito local e as etapas propostas pela instituição para a implementação de um plano de desenvolvimento econômico, bem como os projetos para o desenvolvimento econômico local de Porto Alegre e de Santo André. Analiticamente, a convergência entre as propostas de desenvolvimento econômico local do Banco Mundial e das duas administrações estudadas foi confirmada, por meio da criação de categorias de análise que identificaram semelhanças entre as premissas teóricas que sustentavam os projetos de desenvolvimento, como: o papel do prefeito municipal, o empreendedorismo municipal, as pequenas e médias empresas como base do desenvolvimento econômico, a ênfase nas políticas de empregabilidade, os grandes projetos de intervenção urbanístico-econômica, o financiamento do desenvolvimento por meio de parcerias público-privadas e a visão positiva da globalização como criadora de novas oportunidades. No entanto, esta conclusão vai além de uma simples constatação de elementos comuns nas políticas de desenvolvimento, suscitando reflexões relevantes, realizadas a partir de circunstâncias históricas específicas, como: a severa crise econômico-social, a descentralização de atribuições, a aproximação dos setores econômico-privados dos mecanismos de financiamento de campanhas eleitorais municipais e a grande capacidade de dominação da ortodoxia, por meio de seus instrumentos institucionais, financeiros e acadêmicos conservadores. No entanto, avançar com o processo de desenvolvimento requer muito mais que ações locais, requer, fundamentalmente, descortinar o processo histórico de nossa formação política, econômica, cultural e social, considerar que a superação do subdesenvolvimento implica conflitos inadiáveis e pensar as teorias a partir da realidade do País e de cada localidade. Magister Artium - MA / The novel Philida by André P, Brink is classified in the genre of slave novel. The novel tells the story of a slave woman, Philida, who lodged a complaint with the Slave Protector because she and her children were about to be sold to a new master. In this study I will look at how the author, Brink, uses different narrative strategies to give an authentic voice to Philida. Amongst these strategies are the unique voice of the character Philida, multiple narrators, language use and the creative use of historical and archival sources. The study will focus on the characterization of Philida and the depiction of aspects of slavery. It will also explore the voices of other characters such as Frans Brink, Cornelis Brink and Ouma Nella. The theoretical basis of the study is informed by aspects of narratology, postcolonialism and feminism.
