Development of an Open-source Multi-objective Optimization Toolbox

Aeeni, Soheila January 2019 (has links)
The industrial trend is currently to increase product customization, and at the same time decrease cost, manufacturing errors, and time to delivery. These are the main goal of the e-FACTORY project which is initiated at Linköping university to develop a digital framework that integrates digitization technologies to stay ahead of the competitors. e-FACTORY will help companies to obtain a more efficient and integrated product configuration and production planning process. This thesis is a part of the e-FACTORY project with Weland AB which main mission is the optimization of spiral staircase towards multiple disciplines such a scost and comfortability. Today this is done manually and the iteration times are usually long. Automating this process could save a lot of time and money. The thesis has two main goals, the first part is related to develop a generic multi-objective optimization toolbox which contains NSGA-II and it is able to solve different kinds of optimization problems and should be easy to use as much as possible. The MOO-toolbox is evaluated with different kinds of optimization problems and the results were compared with other toolboxes. The results seem confident and reliable for a generic toolbox. The second goal is to implement the optimization problem of the spiral staircase in the MOO-toolbox. The optimization results achieved in this thesis shows the benefits of optimization for this case and it can be extended by more variables to obtain impressive results.

Stång-Magasin till Industrirobot

Bryngelv, Sebastian January 2016 (has links)

High Speed Surrogate Vehicle Development

Jaiem, Karim January 2018 (has links)
In order to keep down the costs in the automotive industry, it is decided to simulate dangerous scenarios that could occur in traffic, either virtually or by means of custom-made vehicles. This report addresses the development of a new type of surrogate vehicle called High Speed Surrogate Vehicle. This project has been carried out to prevent today's issues with surrogate vehicles and to enable an increase in testing efficiency, without increasing the risk of damaging test vehicles and injuries on personnel in an eventual collision. The report presents the surrogate vehicles area of use and its technical components. Reflection measurements have been made to compare radar characteristic between a real car and surrogate target and construction work has been carried out to manufacture fasteners for attaching the new High Speed Surrogate Vehicle. In the last phase of this degree project, final performance tests and collision tests were performed to verify its drive-and collision ability against test cars.

Hantering av komponenter till hydraulsystem

Lindström, Joakim, Sundkvist, Henrik January 2018 (has links)
In Hudiksvall there is a company that manufactures and develops hydraulic grippers for handling wood, scrap and building materials. The company's proprietary hydraulic cylinder was analyzed by the Institute for Applied Hydraulics in Örnsköldsvik (ITH). Their analysis showed that the hydraulic system contained a large amount of impurities. Pollution from manufacturing and assembly remained in the gripper's hydraulic system in deliverable products, indicating that faults occur in handling and cleaning of components. Therefore, there was a need to investigate whether the cleaning equipment used was able to clean components to the level required. Handling of cleaned components needed to be investigated to ensure that the products kept the cleanliness required until final assembly. The aim of the work was to propose measures and procedures to reduce the number and amount of pollution through better washing and management methods. A theoretical reference frame was created by literature study of relevant scientific articles and publications, in order to create a greater understanding of how the hydraulics are affected by contamination and how they could be avoided when assembling hydraulic components, even cleaning methods were studied. During the work, methods have been combined to carry out a mapping of handling in the process flow. The methods that have been combined, within a case study at the company, are status report, observations and process flow charts. The result of the observations, is that the cleaning equipment used failed to deliver the cleanliness needed. That the company, in its process flow, has long rest periods for readymade components in a dirty environment. The measures proposed by the project team were to replace the washing equipment and to keep the dustprotected components. Despite the use of a case study, can this work be a guide for other companies in similar situations, which implies some generalization of the work when the company in which the case study is conducted is believed to be a typical production of hydraulic cylinders. The conclusion of the work was that after replacing the cleaning equipment and through better and dustprotected storage, the company will be able to deliver grippers with a high level of cleanliness.

Översyn av bältessträckning i ViscoNip-vals / Review of belt stretch in ViscoNip roller

Nordin, Adam January 2018 (has links)
The report was a finalization part of the thesis bachelor work in mechanical engineering at Karlstad University. A review of the ViscoNip roll belt stretch was made to Valmet. The background to the project was that the belts became resistant to wear, which meant that it was no longer necessary to adjust the machine direction. Previously the belt was moved in the machine direction to expose a new and fresh surface to even the wear. The increased quality of the belt has led to the possibility of applying a fixed side. The goal with the thesis work was to minimize the cost of the belt tension.  The project has gone thru a development process where project planning, product specification, concept generation, concept evaluation and layout design was included. Through a cost analysis and input from the relevant fitters and service staff, it was found that a trapezoidal screw was a highly rated solution for the head adjustment. Due to the requirement for continuous belt tension, the trapezoidal screw and a fixed end could not be combined.  As there were several advantages with the trapezoidal screw, a solution was created that was to combine a trapezoidal screw with a spring. These along with a fixed head became the winning concept. Before the thesis work, the cost of the ViscoNip roll belt stretch was 226 321 kr. In that price was installation, hydraulics, trapezoidal screw and displacement components.  Upon completion of the thesis, a fixed side was applied to the driving side together with a trapezoidal screw combined with a driver's spring. The estimated cost was instead 155 477 kr, a saving of 70 845 kr.

Safety analysis on digital hydraulics : Redundancy study for aviation applications

Pettersson, Robert January 2018 (has links)
Digital hydraulic actuators (DHA) are an interesting new technology that couldreplace todays system with inefficient proportional valves. By using an arrayof on/off valves the hydraulic pressures are discretised. This gives a fixed setof force outputs that can be used to control the actuator. DHA systems havebeen proven to drastically reduce the energy consumption at the cost of highersystem complexity. More components and more advanced controllers are neededto maintain an equal system performance.Previous research has been mentioning the fault tolerance of the DHA systemwithout analysing the actual requirements to achieve it. In this thesis a safetyanalysis is made. One first approach of making an active fault tolerant system ispresented and the effects of using this is analysed. In total, over four million failuremodes are analysed and grouped into 2402 system outputs. The thesis is also thefirst within the research of DHA system to present a chamber wise analysis, whereall four chambers are analysed independently. The thesis also presents a method to calculate reliability for the system. Themethod is a new computational way of creating and reducing fault trees. Fromthe fault trees the probability of system failure can be calculated. The conclusion of this thesis is that DHA is not fault tolerant by default butcan be if designed correctly. The thesis also concludes that if the componentsin the DHA system have the same reliability as the components used in today’ssystem the reliability is similar.

Integrated brake in hydraulic motor for winch applications

Lantto, Emil January 2018 (has links)
The company named Bosch Rexroth, previously Hägglunds drives, in Mellansel, Sweden develops, produces and sells radial piston hydraulic motors for industrial use, some are used to drive winches. The winch application mostly needs a brake to function as a parking brake and emergency brake. The company offers brakes that are installed as external assemblies. This thesis work is done to finding brake concept solutions that requires less space and doesn’t add as much to weight and cost and that could be better integrated in the application. The steps to achieve this includes evaluating the needs, generating new brake concepts, refining these, evaluating the concepts found, refining the best concept and finally presenting the result. The brake concept found to be the best of the set generated is a slightly altered drum brake that, as an example, is integrated into the winch drum and has the potential to have a shorter response time than concepts used today.
