Ensino de arte em museus da cidade de São Paulo: tópicos modernos e contemporâneos / Teaching art in the museums of the city of São Paulo: modern and contemporary topics

Pinheiro, Maria de Paula 23 September 2014 (has links)
Whereas art-education in museums is a recent area of work in Brazil (the early experiences took place in the first half of last century), this study investigates and discusses the influence of the theoretical and didactic assumptions of education in art associated with the modernist free expression and the contemporary perspective of doing and reading influenced by the culture in the mediation between art and the public in two museums of the city of São Paulo. Starting with historical considerations about the pedagogical tendencies in the teaching of art, I have analyzed the practical and reflexive propositions worked by two outstanding arteducators who were in charge of the educational actions in museums of the city of São Paulo in the 1980´s: Paulo Portella Filho, head of the Educative Service at the Picture Gallery of the State of São Paulo, between 1976 and 1987; and Denise Grinspum, head of the Educational Action Area of Lasar Segall Museum, between 1985 and 2001. This research develops in the field of qualitative investigations, and collected data was predominantly descriptive. Highlight is the survey of primary documental sources produced at the time, such as reports, magazine and newspaper articles that make reference to the projects that were the scope of this study the course on Drawing Laboratory (1976-1987), at the Picture Gallery of the State of São Paulo, and the Program for the Education about Heritage Service to the Public from Schools (1985-2001), at the Lasar Segall Museum. In support to the documental review, I have gathered testimonies and narratives of protagonists who are the core of this investigation regarding their practices involving the teaching of art. Such testimonies turned out to be living raw materials full of information, emphasizing experiences that are intertwined and reveal intertwined and reveal theoretical and practical conceptions that are significant for art education in museums and cultural institutions.

Das estradas e dos desvios: Curso de Especialização em Arte/Educação da ECA/USP (1984-2001) e a formação do professor de arte / About the roads and the detours: the Specialization Course in Art/Education of the ECA/USP (1984-2001) and the art teacher\'s education

Nakashato, Guilherme 28 March 2017 (has links)
The research presents an analysis about the Specialization Course in Art/Education of the Escola de Comunicações e Artes da Universidade de São Paulo, which was active between 1984 and 2001, created by Dr. Ana Mae Tavares Bastos Barbosa, and Dr. Regina Stela Barcelos Machado, seeking to establish a historical study of its development in the university and reflecting on its importance in the scenario of transformations of the area of Art/ Education in the last decades in the country. In addition, the study seeks to understand the formative propositions promoted by this lato sensu postgraduate course that, potentially, stimulated the development of its students, some of whom subsequently pursued their own research, at master\'s and doctoral level, and entered the academic career, becoming teacher educators themselves. In order to do so, analyzes of documents from the archives of the Comissão de Cultura e Extensão Universitária da ECA and the Núcleo de Apoio à Cultura e Extensão em Promoção da Arte na Educação (NACE/NUPAE) were carried out, as well as the capture of reports of nine people involved In the course, between founders, former coordinators, teachers and students, including my own narrative. Thus, the narrative was adopted in an ambivalent process in this work, both as a research route for the collected data, as well as by the theoretical contribution of reflections about teacher education, supported by Paul Ricouer, John Dewey, Walter Benjamin and Regina Machado, allowing the recognition of the Specialization Course in Art/Education of the ECA/USP (1984-2001) as a purposeful detour on the road of teacher\'s education, in other words, as a daring initiative that marked its presence in the art/education\'s scenario in Brazil.

An Art Teacher's Guide to a Cognitive Teaching Process: Prompting Student's Creative Thought

Warskow, Kristen 01 December 2014 (has links)
This paper seeks to further explore stages an artist moves through that can be applied to teaching art, and helping students understand how to access their creativity. This project involves observation and an auto-ethnographic approach in order to best determine stages artists naturally move through when creating art. In order to most effectively suggest a teachable creative process for secondary art students, this paper will further explore cognitive and disciplinary categories in art education by applying principles and stages to a curricular guide (or lesson plans) for secondary art educators. Topics and studies of design thinking, creative inquiry, studio habits, creative processes, the National Assessment for Educational Progress (NAEP, 2008), and National Core Art Standards will be reviewed and expanded upon in this paper. Using these inputs, a series of 4 recursive, creative stages were observed and applied to teaching art at the secondary (6th-12th grade) levels.

Theatre as Education: Creating and Performing a Play with Elementary School Students

Lopez, Sarah C 01 January 2015 (has links)
This paper is an exploration of the concept of theatre as education and what I learned about teaching, transformation, and failure through my thesis project. In order to explore these ideas, I reflect on my experience creating and performing a short play with a group of eight 2nd and 3rd grade students over the span of nine weeks. I pinpoint the parts of the process that worked well and discuss how these techniques and activities could be used to enhance curriculum and learning in the classroom. I also discuss which parts of the process failed and what I learned from those experiences. I hope that the paper may serve as a guide for teaching artists undertaking similar work and a resource for teachers looking to incorporate theatre arts into their curriculums.

How do three public school art teachers in Texas use art criticism and discussion to teach contemporary art in the K-12 classroom

Garfield, Samantha Rebecca 09 September 2014 (has links)
I conducted a case study to observe three art classes at various campuses throughout Austin, Texas in order to observe how art criticism methods were used to guide classroom discussions about contemporary art. By engaging in art criticism in the classroom, an instructor can ultimately enrich the teaching and learning of art. They can also assist students in learning to subjectively evaluate images from their everyday lives, reinforcing the value placed on thoughtful description through art education. Learning how to turn an evaluation from a judgmental and careless acceptance or dismissal into a thoughtful analysis can suspend indifference and re-invigorate the potential educational aspect of time spent in the art classroom and expand the scope of learning outside the arena of art. The value of using contemporary art for these evaluations, as opposed to more traditionally recognized artists, enables the art lessons to become integrated into a social and cultural context and can integrate social studies, political science, and any number of other concentrations into arts education. / text

Blurring Boundaries: Mapping Identity with Place through Autoethnography, Mapping, and Arts-Based Research

Zimmerman, Angela January 2011 (has links)
Liminal space serves as a metaphor in defining the in-between places I feel as an artist/teacher and the in-between places I live in because of the intermixing of images from memory and daily life. As an artist embarking on a career as an educator, I have difficulty visually portraying my identity in my art and feel my future students will find it difficult to define who they are without proper guidance and knowledge of what could define a person. I will be a teacher who will not propose a concept or lesson to students without undertaking the project myself. Identity evolves and incorporates elements of where we live and what we see every day. The liminal, in-between, blurry, and distorted perceptions that define my identity are expressed through arts-based research, autoethnography, and mapping. In this research I create and connect paths that lead to a further definition of the artist/teacher.

Enriching Studio Thinking: A New Mind-Centered Approach for Curriculum Development in Art Education

Imoro, Kari Benge January 2012 (has links)
This study examines the use of Studio Thinking's Studio Habits of Mind (Hetland, Winner, Veenema & Sheridan, 2007) as a framework for curriculum design. In order to compare the ideas with other current art education theories, I conduct a literature review that identifies types of thinking accessed in the visual arts classroom. Through the comparison of Hetland et. al.'s Habits of Mind with those cited by current researchers, I discuss the relevance of the Studio Habits of Mind and propose an additional Habit of Mind: Investigate. In order to explore the use of these Habits as a framework for curriculum design, I design several lessons for a local after-school program using an objectives-based lesson template. The difficulty of applying this framework to an existing template indicates the need for a new unit/lesson plan template formatted specifically to a mind-centered approach. I present my design for a new unit template, lesson template and examples. The findings of this research point to a move in art education towards a mind-centered approach in the visual arts classroom and the use of a mind-centered template for unit and lesson planning.

The journey to transform : theatre in education and paradigm shifting

Jung, Shu-hwa January 2008 (has links)
The critical understanding of Theatre in Education (TIE) presented in this thesis focuses on ‘TIE into Schools’ and its effect. The author takes the view that students’ subjectivity was influenced by the dominant mores of elements of society, such as family and school, and less often, by individual, autonomous decision. Case studies of practices that are identified with the tenets of TIE were carried out using approaches based on the principles and methods of a critical pedagogy approach. How could the TIE approach be seen as a critical pedagogy? This question is examined predominantly through the lens of Paulo Freire and Henry A. Giroux’s thoughts on education and teachers. In addition to an understanding of the tenets of TIE and the tenets of critical pedagogy, this thesis presents a criticism of its discursive approach and also a criticism from the researcher as a participant observer. This narrative approach helps explore the human side of the experience thus keeping real life issues to the fore. Fieldwork episodes of TIE practice in three different levels of schools, the Taipei He-te Primary School, 10 different senior high schools and the National Taiwan University are presented in the context of the students’ differing ages in an attempt to understand more about the methods and tenets of TIE. ‘Partnership’ is a key concept and driving force, creating mutual cooperation between the community of the school, the parents and the theatre groups. The expected outcomes of this thesis include the clarification notions of TIE, and the adoption of a subjective approach by the students in relation to the process of interactivity, leading from affection to cognition, then action. This thesis concludes that TIE is a critical pedagogy and praxis, which develops skills and attitudes in which action can be taken by the individual in fitting in the world. It improves the individual’s ability to rethink his/her beliefs and attitudes, to empathise with groups of people and individuals with whom she/he previously may not have come into social contact with and allows previously taboo subjects to be discussed openly.
