How Attachment Styles Moderate the Impact Social Network Members have upon Romantic Relationships

Denson, Jayne Kathryn 12 May 2012 (has links)
Research has established that network members’ opinions do impact romantic relationship outcomes. The present study examined whether attachment styles moderate the impact social network members have upon relationship satisfaction and commitment. Participants were primed to activate one of three attachment styles, and then read one of 6 vignettes describing a hypothetical relationship experiencing approval/disapproval from friends/family. After reading, participants completed measures to indicate how satisfied and committed they would be in the hypothetical relationship. Thus, the study employed a 3 (Type of opinion: approval, disapproval, no opinion) x 2 (Source of opinion: parent, friend) x 3 (Attachment prime: secure, anxious, avoidant) factorial design. Analyses revealed that supportive network opinions increase relationship satisfaction and commitment relative to relationships facing disapproval. However, the impact of disapproval was not significantly different from knowing nothing about the network’s perception. No other effects emerged, perhaps due to the failure of the attachment prime.

Does valuation of music relate to attachment style?

Andersson, Gerhard January 2017 (has links)
Little is known about how the quality of one’s relationships might relate to how important a person thinks music is. By combining three established psychological phenomena - the need to belong, transference of attachment and aesthetic emotions - a novel research field addressing this was deducted and explored. A web-survey with self-report scales on attachment styles, belongingness and valuation of music was distributed both publicly via Facebook and targeted to psychology students at Stockholm University per e-mail. 141 surveys were returned. Good to excellent internal consistencies were obtained for all scales. Ambivalent and disorganized attachment styles correlated positively up to medium strength with measures related to valuation of music. A following ANOVA between attachment style groups supported the results of the correlation analysis. The results provide some tentative support for the deducted explanation.

Context-Dependent Insecure Attachment as a Product of Parental Dynamic

Kaplan, Isabelle 01 January 2015 (has links)
How we attach to others, and more generally how we develop and maintain our attachment in our important relationships, has been a question that has captivated psychology researchers. This study introduces Context-Dependent Insecure Attachment (C-DIA), a new model of how childhood experiences are linked with adult attachment behavior. This model postulates that for people with insecure attachment, whether they exhibit anxious or avoidant behavior in romantic relationships is dependent on their dynamic with their partner. This is because different types of partners could trigger one of two working models of attachment, an anxious or avoidant one. These two opposing working models of attachment are a product of growing up in a two-parent household, where children likely would have been exposed to two working models of primary attachment relationships, likely one based in anxiety and one in avoidance. In adulthood, significant relationships would induce relatively anxious or avoidant behavior, depending on which working model was triggered. This model of C-DIA was tested using self-report vignettes, self-report written measures, and a romantic attachment interview. Results of Study 1 indicated that there were people who had high scores on anxiety and avoidance. Results of Study 2 indicated that those with high scores for anxious and avoidant attachment were likely to report experiencing C-DIA, and to report having parents who had a contrasting dynamic and attributes. Results of Study 3 were broadly not significant, but did not have enough variance in the sample in order to come to a definitive conclusion about C-DIA.

Anknytning : - dess betydelse för individens personlighetsutvecklng och förhållningssätt till relationer.

Alvebris, Maria January 2008 (has links)

The Relationship Between Attachment Styles And Perfectionism In High School Students

Saya, Pelin 01 July 2006 (has links) (PDF)
ABSTRACT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ATTACHMENT STYLES AND PERFECTIONISM IN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS Saya, Pelin M.S., Department of Educational Sciences Supervisor: Prof. Dr. G&uuml / l Aydin July, 2006, 81 pages The main purpose of the present study is to investigate the relationship between attachment styles and perfectionism as a function of gender in Turkish high school students. Factor structure of Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale in Turkish high school was also investigated. Four hundred and ninety five 11th grade high school students from four different state high schools in Ankara participated in the study. Turkish versions of Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS, Oral, 1999) and Relationship Scale Questionnaire (RSQ, S&uuml / mer &amp / G&uuml / ng&ouml / r, 1999b) were administered to students to collect data in the class settings. Factor analysis was employed to MPS items to identify the dimensions of perfectionism as perceived by the participants. Factor analysis revealed three factors named self-oriented perfectionism, other-oriented perfectionism and socially prescribed perfectionism. A 2 (gender) x 4 (attachment styles) factorial MANOVA was conducted to examine the possible associations between attachment styles and perfectionism and, whether such a relationship varies as a function of gender. The results of the MANOVA revealed no significant relationship between attachment styles and perfectionism as a function of gender.

Evaluation of the attachment scale in the Trauma Symptom Inventory-2 : Parental experiences of traumatic events and close relationships

Christiansson, Åsa January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the attachment scale added in the newly developed self-rating questionnaire Trauma Symptom Inventory-2 (TSI-2). Participants were recruited from the Swedish parent-infant unit Hagadal (N=58). Reliability analyses concluded Cronbach´s α .92 for attachment total scale, .88 for avoidance subscale, and .91 for rejection sensitivity subscale. Convergent validity analyses concluded moderate to strong correlations between TSI-2 attachment scale and subscales, and Experiences in Close Relationships (ECR) total scale and subscales (r= .34 - .68, p ≤ .01). Criterion validity analyses concluded that adverse childhood circumstances measured by Linköping Youth Life Experiences Scale (LYLES) signficantly estimated 17 % of variance in TSI-2 attachment scale scores. Preliminary support for reliability and validity of the TSI-2 attachment scale was obtained. No previous trauma symptom rating instrument has included information about adult attachment styles. The present findings point to the benefits of such inclusion.
