The scenario of the market requires that companies develop innovative products and with effective processes. One of the alternatives that the automotive companies had to achieve these goals is to use the lean production systems. In this context, this paper presentsguidelines to redesign lean manufacturing cells, an auto parts factory. Cells were redesigned according one need to adapt to the entry of a new product demanded by a major customer. As a starting point for redesign, existing cells were analyzed according to the level of use of lean production, using an assessment tool of lean production practices available literature. This application allowed improving the assessment tool and identifies opportunities for improvement in the cells. After that, redesign involved the following steps: preliminary design, defining the detailed design and planning of the implementation of new manufacturing cells. However, a satisfactory result of a PDP depends on the communication between the steps and activities related to the process and the need cross-functional integration.

The value co-creation in automotive-3PL relationship management : A case study in SwedenLiu, Jingting, Huang, Zeying January 2020 (has links)
Background: The discussion regarding value co-creation begins within the field of service marketing, it tells that the value is mutually created in process between the firms and the customers. And that concept has been developed further in many aspects, such as B2B context in which the knowledge intensive industry is involved. Many researchers have argued the importance of value co-creation and emphasized on the need of more studies within business practices. In this study, the particular automotive-3PL relationship would be added in to explore the empirical study of value co-creation. Purpose: The main purpose of the thesis is to study how value co-creation can be managed and achieved from the perspectives of 3PL providers and the users within automotive industry. Method: Through the qualitative research approach, the comprehensive knowledge, which includes the 3PL providers and users’ insights and undertaken behaviours behind the value co-creation is obtained after conducting eight semi-structured interviews in a case study. Conclusion: The results show that the value co-creation is actualized when 3PL providers and automotive users together actively participate in a certain process, in which the offering, interaction and learning are the core activities that should be maintained circularly. Furthermore, the high level of relationship commitment and trust should be sustained between actors.

Investigation on VOC Content from Car Interior Finishing Systems and Its Influence on Leather PerformancesPellegrini, Tomaso, Pasquale, Riccardo, Cisco, D. 25 June 2019 (has links)
Content:
Car industry is highly demanding for low emission parameters and despite remarkable results have been achieved since the last decade, the requests are day by day more sophisticated. The focus on emission is a severe task and requires the investigation on emissions on full-range and involves the expertise of multi and inter disciplinal competences.
The leather industry is a clear key ring for car interior suppliers and it is also focusing on more sustainable processes and reducing the emission of pollutants to the environment, prompting the commitment of
leather suppliers, tanneries, and chemical auxiliaries producers. From our perspective, in fact, one of the major problems that car interior producers are currently facing is the production of low-emitting leather, which requires special chemical auxiliaries to be achieved.
In this context, our research has focused on the study of VOC volatile substances from car interiors, in particular on finishing systems, aiming at their reduction without losing the original performances of the
finished leather article. Our investigation focused on full grain finished leathers, evaluating the contribution to the VOC emission from crust leather to the finished articles. A preliminary study showed that silicon compounds family brought an important contribution to the emission from a qualitative and quantitative perspective: these substances play a crucial role in terms of the final article performances (such as resistance), and quality. So, our investigation focused on innovative silicon-free auxiliary combination to give low VOC emission contribution from the leather compared with the same performances of the original silicon containing finishing. In order to evaluate the impact of the emissions, a series of analyses of the volatiles were performed: static headspace VDA 277 (and/or PV3341) analysis and active air sampling analysis GS 97014-3 type were performed, indicating that silicon contribution was very high in the emission. In addition, the quality of the leather was also assessed and characterised through standard automotive tests such as stick-slip, abrasion trials with Taber tester and Martindale machine, ball plate method, fogging test; rub fastness provided with Veslic tester (wet, dry, alcohol, gasoline), dry-rubbing trial with Gakushin tester. The set of result showed that standard leather containg silicon compounds on the finishing produced high VOC emission and high performance articles, thus contributing to VOC emission. Conversely, the novel finishing auxiliaries had low VOC emission, no silicons, yet high performance leather and therefore should be chosen from a more environmental point of view.
Take-Away:
Low VOC emission from novel leather finishing albeit high resistance leather.

THE IMPORTANCE OF FORMULATING A UNIFORM STRUCTURE FOR NON-FINANCIAL REPORTING: A quantitative study based on the evidence from the automotive industry.Sarker, Asif, Mike-Hana Fongang, Mundi January 2021 (has links)
Nowadays, sustainability has become a well-known and popular topic which has drawn the attention of many people worldwide. To fulfill their responsibility towards sustainability, the business world is shifting from an accounting-based accountability to an accountability-based accounting. Every renowned organization publishes their non- financial report, but quality of these reports is questionable. For the lack of a uniform structure, non-financial reports have become too complicated for some of the stakeholders to understand. To make things worse, the business entities publish non- financial reports highlighting their positive impacts but hide the negative aspects. However, these issues could not resist the interest of the stakeholders, rather they observe different independent index providers to know about the sustainability. We know non- financial reporting is not about figures rather it is about disclosures. However, it is very difficult to collect information from a non-financial report and compare them among industry peers. Therefore, we intend to examine if it is important to formulate a unique structure for the non-financial reporting.Though non-financial reporting is very different from financial reporting, it is very difficult for the readers to get the real picture of sustainability of any organization. The quality measurement of non-financial reports is a daunting task. To get a clear picture we collected the non-financial information of 12 automobile manufacturing groups from different geographical locations. We also observed 5 annual reports for each company and formulated our own index and conducted a quantitative study to answer our research question. We collected data from non-financial reports of our selected automobile companies to formulate our own index and collected index of these companies from the website of S&P Global. From the non-financial report, we also collected data about the length of the report, number of years compared for performance indicators, and if the report is audited or not. We collected the data about total asset of these companies and their return on asset. With the help of our theoretical framework where we discussed about CSR, stockholder theory, and legitimacy theory and formulated two hypotheses. To answer these hypotheses, we run a regression test to see if the variables used in our study have any predictable relationship or not. Hence we tested our data and concluded that it is important to formulate a unique structure for non-financial reporting.Non-financial reporting has come a long way since its appearance but to go even further and to fulfill the demand of the stakeholders, publishing such reports is not enough. Companies who publish such reports also need to ensure the quality and comparability. Though different organizations have different sustainability challenges, at least non- financial reports of a particular industry should follow a certain structure so that these reports can be compared.
