Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) is an acronym of Gartner Inc. to describe systems that are intended to provide "Real-time access to critical business performance indicators to improve the speed and efficiency of business operations. BAM systems help enterprises improve their operational efficiency and increase the ability of understanding and responding to events that have a significant impact on their business processes. Despite the fact that most businesses today are in urgent need to improve their operating performance, BAM systems as a solution seams to don't approach. The reality is that many software vendors supplied new BAM systems solutions by simply adding new features to existing products. In addition, there are no formal standards to define which specific features of the BAM system should contain. Another problem is the lack of theoretical models to support comparative analysis between the different systems of BAM. The aim of my thesis is to contribute to the improvement of the existing theoretical basis for the use of Business Activities Monitoring (BAM) as part of BI solutions, by providing an understanding of the relationship between the needs of decision support systems in real time and current applications of systems BAM. This work provides evidence that the relationship between the Real-time Business Intelligence needs of enterprises and BAM solution is determined by the need to ensure that the BAM system deliver current Real-time information to enable BAM users, who are often operating managers directly responsible for business processes, effectively respond to referred alert, supplied by the BAM system. To increase users' ability to effectively respond to events generated by the BAM system depends primarily on two basic operational issues. First, it is necessary to ensure adequate response for BAM users, to ensure necessary actions associated with the event. Second, BAM user must be able to understand the nature of the problem associated with the event, to initiate the proper steps to resolve the problem. Here it shows that, apart from insufficient knowledge of the nature of problems, BAM system needs, beside generation alerts in very low latency, also add context to these alerts, to provide enough information for BAM users to understand the nature of the problem associated with the event.

Convergence Analysis of BAM on Laplace BVP with Singularities

The particular solutions of the Laplace equations and their singularities are fundamental to numerical partial di erential equations in both algorithms and error analysis. We first review the explicit solutions of Laplace¡¦s equations on sectors with the Dirichlet and the Neumann boundary conditions. These harmonic functions clearly expose the solution¡¦s regularity/singularity at the vertex. So we can analyze the singularity of the Laplace¡¦s solutions on polygons at di erent domain corners and for various boundary conditions. By using this knowledge we can designed many new testing models with di erent kind of singularities, like discontinuous and mild singularities, beside the popular singularity models, Motz¡¦s and the cracked beam problems, We use the boundary approximation method, i.e. the collocation Tre tz method in engineering literatures, to solve the above testing models of Laplace boundary value problems on polygons. Suppose the uniform particular solutions are chosen in the entire domain. When there is no singularity on all corners, this method has the exponential convergence. However, its rate of convergence will deteriorate to polynomial if there exist some corner singularities. From experimental data, we even have three type of convergence, i.e. exponential, polynomial or their mixed types. We will study these convergent behaviors and their causes. Finally, we will uncover the relation between the order of convergence and the intensity of corner singularities.

Moderne Experimente in der Kurzzeitphysik erfordern eine hochpräzise Synchronisation der beteiligten Strahlungsquellen, um dynamische Prozesse und atomare Strukturen aufzulösen. Die Komplexität und räumliche Ausdehnung einer linearbeschleuniger-getriebenen Strahlungsquelle wie ELBE verlangt nach neuen Konzepten, um die anspruchsvollen Anforderungen zu erfüllen. Kernbestandteile der vorliegenden Arbeit sind die Konzeption, der Aufbau und die Inbetriebnahme eines gepulsten optischen Synchronisationssystems zur Verteilung eines Phasenreferenzsignals. Dieses System bildet eine wesentliche Grundvoraussetzung für wissenschaftliche Experimente mit einer Auflösung im Bereich von wenigen zehn Femtosekunden. Darüber hinaus wurde der Prototyp eines Ankunftszeitmonitors am ELBE-Beschleuniger entwickelt und charakterisiert. Mit diesem Diagnoseelement wurden erstmals Messungen der Elektronenpulsankunftszeit mit einer Auflösung von wenigen Femtosekunden am ELBE-Strahl möglich. Die implementierte Datenanalyse erlaubt einzelpulsaufgelöste Messzyklen mit bisher unerreichter spektraler Bandbreite am kontinuierlichen (CW) Elektronenstrahl. Ferner wurde eine Methode zur Datenerfassung entwickelt, die unter Verwendung der Lockin-Technik besonders rauscharme Messungen hervorbringen kann. Abschließend wurde der ELBE-Beschleuniger hinsichtlich Ankunftszeit und Energiestabilität umfassend untersucht. Dabei wurden die erweiterten Möglichkeiten, die ELBE als CW-Beschleuniger bietet, ausgeschöpft. Der Fokus lag besonders auf der spektralen Analyse der Störungen bei verschiedenen Kompressionszuständen der Elektronenpulse. Diese methodische Untersuchung wurde sowohl für den thermionischen Injektor als auch für die supraleitende Fotoelektronenquelle durchgeführt. Die präsentierten Messergebnisse ermöglichen ein erweitertes Verständnis für die wirkenden Störmechanismen während der Elektronenpulspropagation und stellen den Ausgangspunkt für systematische Verbesserungen der Strahlqualität dar. Ein beschriebener Grundlagenversuch belegt, wie der ELBE-Elektronenstrahl in Zukunft aktiv stabilisiert werden kann, um die erforderliche Zeitauflösung zu erreichen. Intrinsische Strahlinstabilitäten können dadurch signifikant reduziert werden.

Principal facilitator behaviour in curriculum implementation

In the past ten years the emergence of studies in the area of effective schools has focused a good deal of attention on the role adopted by principals in the process of change. Few can deny the importance of this role in the development and implementation of new/changing curriculum statements. This is especially noticeable in schools that are part of a large 'centralised' system. This study is concerned with the role adopted by four principals in schools in Wollongong N.S.W. where a new syllabus in Writing K-6 was being implemented. It examined the implementation activities used and then focused specifically on the role adopted by the principal in that process.1 To enable the success or otherwise of the implementation activities to be identified, the C-BAM techniques developed by Hall, Hord et al were modified and used. The role adopted by each of the four principals was then considered in an effort to identify the contribution it made to the implementation activities. The findings suggest that the principal does play a significant role in Curriculum Implementation and that he/she needs additional skills and understandings to enable the process used to be successful. It is recommended that the C-BAM techniques would be one useful tool that principals could use.

Believability assessment model : En modell för att mäta trovärdighet i berättelsedrivna spel

An essential part of the video game experience are the characters. How the characters are perceived as believable can make or break the immersion of the experience. This paper aims to create a model which can be used as a tool for analysis, designed to measure believability in video game characters. For consistency, we first define the term believability. Using thematic analysis, we aim to evaluate what components are relevant in the design process of a new model. This is achieved by studying three characters from japanese role playing games using two existing models to measure believability in artificial agents, as this hasn't been done in this context in the past. The results show that relevant components in existing models does indeed exist, but they lack some components mirroring feelings and personal development in characters from japanese role playing games. In addition to this, problems arising from the categorization of characters in models designed to measure believability is discovered. Two versions of the new model are presented, one designed to measure characters from various genres, and one designed to specifically measure characters from japanese role playing games. A different approach to categorize video game characters is also presented in the latter version of the new model.

Bam Citadel is a unique complex with some mediocre buildings in it. Construction started in the Achaemenid period (550–330 BC) and is still being completed and repaired up to the 21st century. Although the Bam region is located in south-western Iran in an active seismic zone, the City of Bam had not reported any major historical earthquake before 26th Dec. 2003. The massive earthquake that day killed or injured more than 37,000 people and most of the city collapsed. Bam Citadel became a unique adobe complex for the World Heritage community after this disaster. According to the surveys, the earthquake caused damage to about 23% of the ancient monuments close to and inside the Citadel. Most of the ruins were the parts that already added to the main body of work or were repaired during the last intervention of 1993. For this reason the technical method, used for the enhancing of the adobe building, is highlighted as the main task. There are four items which are very important for any seismic upgrading in heritage sites: seismology of the area, quality of the construction, function of the building and cultural values. A wide variety of intervention strategies and techniques have been considered for the repair and the seismic retrofitting of the adobe buildings in the Citadel. With respect to that point, the possible relationship between the cultural values and seismic upgrading are always polar opposites. Obviously the buildings in Bam Citadel have many problems, for example the geometry data are not available, there are large variability layers, construction sequence is unknown, existing damage in the structures is very serious, regulation and codes are non-applicable and so on. In fact in this research I am trying to adjust the stability and safety measures with values of the cultural heritage property as much as possible; on the other hand I am trying to optimize the strengthening methods to an acceptable amount of side affect on values. This PhD thesis focuses on the strategies and the techniques that have been applied to preserve the historical monuments and to evaluate the traditional and modern engineering methods that are used in conservation projects in Bam Citadel.
