The evolution and development of the Australian Light Horse, 1860-1945

Bou, Jean, Humanities & Social Sciences, Australian Defence Force Academy, UNSW January 2005 (has links)
Despite the place that the Light Horse occupies in Australia???s military history and the national martial mythology, there has not yet been a scholarly attempt to investigate the evolution and development of Australia???s mounted branch. This thesis is the first attempt to fill this gap in our knowledge and understanding of the history of the Australian Army. In doing so it will consider the ways in which the Light Horse evolved, the place it had in defence thinking, the development of its doctrine, its organisational changes and the way in which that organisation and its men interacted with their society. This thesis firstly analyses the role and place of the mounted soldier in the British and colonial/dominion armies in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries before going on to examine what effects the debates about this had on the development of Australia???s mounted troops. It will find that in the nineteenth century the disparate mounted units of the Australian colonies were established mainly along the organisational model of the mounted rifleman. Influenced by social ideas about citizen soldier horsemen and a senior officer with firm views, this model continued to be used by the new Light Horse until well into the First World War. During that war it was gradually discovered that this military model had its limitations and by the end of the war much of the Light Horse had become cavalry. This discovery in turn meant that during the inter-war period cavalry continued to be part of the army. Analysed in depth also are the many organisational changes that affected the mounted branch during its existence. Some of these reflected doctrinal and tactical lessons, and others were the result of various plans by the government and military authorities to improve the army. It will be seen that regardless of these plans part-time citizen horse units continued to have many problems and they rarely came to be what the government wanted of them. That they were as strong as they were was testimony to the efforts of a dedicated and enthusiastic few.

Projekt ochrany obyvatelstva - preventivní opatření k připravenosti zvládání stresových podnětů vyvolaných mimořádnou událostí / Project wardships population {--} precautionary measures to readiness coping stress instigations developed extraordinary newsmaker.

BINTEROVÁ, Andrea January 2010 (has links)
Providing aid to the inhabitants struck by the stress incentives is on a good level. The findings show that the system of aid providing is set and guarantees its functionality as well as efficiency. Its part is also the preparation of the members of components of the Integrated Rescue System to provide the aid during the stress load of the inhabitants. It is provided on the sufficient level with a significant effort of services bodies and services bodies for its development and structuring. The problem consists in the level of preparedness of the inhabitants. Their behaviour does not correspond to the needs, the people behave in a chaotic way, do not respect the instructions, underestimated the danger. The reason is not that no suitable conditions were created for their preparation or that such a preparation was not performed at all. It was found out that the offer for the substantial education of inhabitants is on the sufficient level and has an adequate scope. Also its forms cover real expectations. The problem is its limited usage by inhabitants for the reason of underestimation of risks and danger. The people are indifferent and persuaded they personally cannot be endangered or struck. The consequence is the state in which neither the individuals nor their communities are prepared on the extraordinary events and they do not know how to behave during them rationally and safely. This leads to the further deepening of the stress load and to the gradation of the initiated psychological problems. As a solution, the creation of a general public meaning is recommended alerting to danger of extraordinary events and to the necessity of a responsible personal preparation on them, including the awareness of the associated psychological endangerment.

Bojová cesta Bohumila Snížka. Z Protektorátu a zpět do ČSR (5. květen 1941 - 20. květen 1945) / Bohumil Snizek´s combat mission. From the Protectorate and back to the Czechoslovakia (5th May 1942 - 20th May 1945)

HOLENKA, Zdeněk January 2008 (has links)
In my thesis I deal with the personality and life of Bohumil Snížek. He was one of those who did not reconcile themselves to the fascist Germany occupation of Czechoslovakia. Bohumil Snížek decided to take part actively in the restoration of his motherland. The circumstances compelled him to undertake a long journey through all Europe whose final destination was Great Britain. After a dramatic stay in Switzerland at Dr. Kopecky´s place and imprisonment in the concentration camp Miranda de Ebro he really managed to achieve his final destination via Gibraltar. It took him nearly one and half years. He joined there the newly being born Czechoslovak Foreign Army. He went to the Czechoslovak brigade which was trained for the fight with the enemy from its very establishment. Yet, the Czechoslovak brigade was not provided with the possibility of at least a little intervention in fighting for the liberation of Europe. Bohumil Snížek was detached to Europe by the end of the September 1944 together with the 2nd Armoured Regiment Czechoslovak Brigade. It was the time of the siege of a French port Dunkerque which was considered the battlefield of the second rank by the Czech soldiers. There was an attack on 28th October 1944 planned for the anniversary of the establishment of Czechoslovakia which became the greatest success of the Czech Army in combat. Bohumil Snížek also took part in this battle and was awarded the Czechoslovak Military Cross for his personal bravery. The Czechoslovaks would not mind that they did not manifest themselves in combat after this great success anymore but what they did mind was to connive helplessly at the events happening in Prag in May 1945. Along with the others, Bohumil Snížek came to the liberated Czechoslovakia in the middle of May 1945. His postwar destiny was quite similar to the destiny of the rest of "those from the West". The regime condemned him "only" to be rolled over by the waters of oblivion. Essentially, only his withdrawal from the Army and departure for the West borderland might have rescued him from even severer sanctions. Bohumil Snížek died of the sequel of injuries from Dunkerque in Aš 1959.

Součinnost složek integrovaného záchranného systému při dopravních nehodách silničních dopravních prostředků hromadné přepravy osob / Cooperation of Integrated rescue system units in road traffic accidents of means of passenger transit

KROUPA, Martin January 2008 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with problems of collaboration of the Integrated Rescue System at coordination of its units intervention in larger traffic accidents, to be specific in coach traffic accidents with a bigger number of the injured and the dead. In the thesis two significant traffic accidents and cooperation training of the units of the Integrated Rescue System are compared at intervals of last five years. Following the analysis it is possible to monitor not only the increasing level of technical and material equipment of single units, but also the increasing level of coordination of their activities. The main aim of the thesis is evaluation of the current level of collaboration of the units of the Integrated Rescue System in a larger traffic accident, eventually a proposal of possible adjustment or modification of currently already used type activities of the units of the Integrated Rescue System.

Integrovaný záchranný systém a mimořádné události se zaměřením na činnost Policie ČR. / Integrated rescue system and emergencies with a view of the Police of the Czech Republic.

VILDMAN, Radek January 2010 (has links)
To deal with and prepare for extraordinary events, the Czech Republic has the Integrated Rescue System, which is not an individual organization as such, but rather a system of co-ordinated activities of basic bodies, namely the Fire-Brigade of the Czech Republic and fire prevention units included in the area coverage, the Police of the Czech Republic and the Medical Rescue Service of the Czech Republic. It is the coordination of the Integrated Rescue System{\crq}s basic bodies what is absolutely essential for the effectiveness of the intervention in the place of an extraordinary event. To make the process of rescue and liquidation work really effective, type activities for the basic bodies during a collective intervention have been put together for selected extraordinary events. These activities focus mainly on the co-ordination of the bodies in the place of the extraordinary event as well as the co-ordination of the related bodies by their operations centres. This thesis aimed to analyze the work of the Czech Police as a body of the Integrated Rescue System in the area of extraordinary events as well as to point out possible insufficiencies and propose some ways of improvement. The findings gained can be used in the professional training of individuals, particularly from the ranks of the Czech Police, which handle the question of dealing with extraordinary events. The thesis includes a list of these type activities approved by the Integrated Rescue System{\crq}s bodies with reference to the effective legal documents and the analysis of responsibilities performed by the Police of the Czech Republic within the individual type activities. The conclusion indicates disparities between the theory and the practice, which arose during the elaboration of the thesis, particularly insufficient knowledge of the type activities on behalf of the policemen and deficient material facilities of the Czech Police as an Integrated Rescue System{\crq}s body, mainly protective aids for performing tasks related to potential contamination of the policemen by various chemical, biological and radioactive substances etc.

Detekce a laboratorní kontrola úniků nebezpečných chemických látek do životního prostředí s nutností výjezdu chemické laboratoře HZS / Detection and Laboratory Assessment of Releases of Hazardous Chemical Substances into the Environment Requiring Fire Brigade Chemical Lab Call-out

Holánová, Iveta January 2013 (has links)
The diploma thesis is focused on a detection and a laboratory control of hazardous substances’ leak into the environment. These hazardous substances are classified. Further, it aims to chemical laboratories of the fire-brigade of the Czech Republic, as well as which place they hold in the fire-brigade system, and it indicates their main duties. This diploma thesis contains a review of some essential types of devices and mediums, which are in terms of the fire-brigade of the Czech Republic usable to practice the detection, determination and assessment of the hazardous substances in various figures of the environment in terrain, i.e. filling of duties of the chemical survey. The output of this diploma thesis is simulation of leaks of the toluene diisocyanate using ALOHA software, TerEx software and Rozex Alarm software. Further on, the proposal of another methodical sheet focused on leak actions of the concrete hazardous industrial substance – toluene diisocyanate. This methodical sheet could therefore broaden pro tempore elaborated sheets for chlorine and ammonia.

Historie českého (československého) reenactingu / History of the Czech(oslovakian) reenacting

Procházka, Filip January 2013 (has links)
The goal of this thesis is to do research , as wide as possible, in the most popular part of hobby named reenacting or reenacting (Napoleonic era, Austro-Prussian Wars, American Civil War, Second World War and some new topic - Czechoslovak Peoples Army, Royal Air Force and Czechoslovak Policemen before WW2). Thats mean commemoration and re-enactment of military history and military units in whole its history from time before 1989 to the future. I tried to find grounds of this hobby and describe development of it. As I expected, progress of this hobby or movement is larger, but this hobby existed before 1989 too. Reenactors reenacted and portrayed older conflicts as Napoleonic and Austro-Prussian war. Future reenactors were mainly fencers and tramps. Year 1989 was turning point for all reenactors. Theirs hobby is legal, it is possible to travel, to unite, to ground living history groups, own weapons, speak about all part of our history. It was possible to share and search information, regulation with and in foreign countries, foreigners and archives and museums. Main goal of reenactors is to portray theirs archetypes as good as possible. Public can see not only reconstruction of battles, but open air exhibition - "very interactive museums". This thesis can't be described as "Complete, all history of...
