A Quality Assurance Framework for Business Process Management

Mallur, Kavya January 2015 (has links)
A business process is a defined collection of linked structured tasks, activities, and decisions performed together to produce a desired set of results in order to achieve business goals on behalf of the organization. Companies are increasingly moving their business processes online using Business Process Management (BPM) tools and technologies. With BPM, online business processes are defined by an explicit business process model that flexibly combines and orchestrates forms delivered through a web browser to integrate tasks performed by people, and web services accessible through Internet protocols to integrate tasks performed by software. Often the approach to quality assurance for online business processes is similar to what would be done with any other web application. This is insufficient since it only provides rudimentary verification of single user behavior whereas the orchestration of tasks across many users and software systems can be quite complex. As well, a simple web application testing approach does not leverage the defined model for a business process to ensure consistency, completeness and enable automation. Nor will such an approach validate that a business process is contributing towards the achievement of business goals. A more systematic approach is required. This thesis proposes a quality assurance framework to provide a repeatable, systematic, cost-efficient approach to quality assurance for BPM. A prototype framework was implemented and evaluated using two case studies, including one case study that was developed in collaboration with a local hospital to support a business process for cancer care assessment.

Vývoj modulu pro správu dokumentů interaktivní reklamní agentury / Development of DMS module for digital advertising agency

Saktor, Marek January 2009 (has links)
This work documents the whole process of developing an information system for a small advertising agency. Its main sphere of business is the internet, hence the company is classified as a digital or interactive agency. My objectives are: analyzing business processes, assembling the functional specification and developing the core of the application and the module for a document management. I start with gathering some common parameters of DMS along with requirements for a web application framework, which is intended to use for a base of the intranet. Then I move to presenting specifics of our agency and I analyze its processes in order to capture all content and desired functionality of the developed system. Next phase is dedicated to design. First, I set the intranet in the context of global Enterprise architecture. I continue with modeling all architectural layers (conceptual, technological and implemental). The application is modular and benefits from using MVC architectural pattern. DMS module implements workflow functionality and I have used principles of Workflow Management Coalition to design that features. The last part of my work describes developed modules in more detail. My objectives were accomplished, core of the intranet is developed and currently in process of testing.

Implementação do arcabouço WED-flow para controle de processos transacionais / An Implementation of WED-flow for Controlling Transactional Processes

Marcela Garcia Ortega 28 March 2013 (has links)
Business processes management is an active area which have received increased attention from research and industry communities. A major concern is the selection of the best approach for modeling and implementing business processes. Nowadays, organizations have business processes with complex structures, which are reevaluated and adjusted frequently, requiring flexibility from modeling languages. In addition, current business processes also require implementation environments capable of ensuring execution reliability, especially in case of failures. Although several transactional models have been proposed in order to guarantee transactional properties adapted to the context of business processes, the implementation of transactional processes still offers a scenario with several theoretical and practical challenges. In this work, we present an implementation of WED-flow approach for controlling transactional processes. WED-flow is an approach which combines the concepts of advanced transactional models, events and data states for the purpose of reducing exception handling complexity. The developed software tool is able of controlling the execution of business processes instances, allows incremental evolution of the designed model and also provides the necessary structure to support recovery mechanisms implementation to handle instances interruptions caused by exceptions.

Optimization of autonomic resources for the management of service-based business processes in the Cloud / Optimisation des ressources autonomiques pour la gestion des processus métier à base de services dans le Cloud

Hadded, Leila 06 October 2018 (has links)
It is increasingly used for hosting and executing business processes in general and service-based business processes (SBPs) in particular. Cloud environments are usually highly dynamic. Hence, executing these SBPs requires autonomic management to cope with the changes of cloud environments implies the usage of a number of controlling devices, referred to as Autonomic Managers (AMs). However, existing solutions are limited to use either a centralized AM or an AM per service for managing a whole SBP. It is obvious that the latter solution is resource consuming and may lead to conflicting management decisions, while the former one may lead to management bottlenecks. An important problem in this context, deals with finding the optimal number of AMs for the management of an SBP, minimizing costs in terms of number of AMs while at the same time avoiding management bottlenecks and ensuring good management performance. Moreover, due to the heterogeneity of cloud resources and the diversity of the required quality of service (QoS) of SBPs, the allocation of cloud resources to these AMs may result in high computing costs and an increase in the communication overheads and/or lower QoS. It is also crucial to find an optimal allocation of cloud resources to the AMs, minimizing costs while at the same time maintaining the QoS requirements. To address these challenges, in this work, we propose a deterministic optimization model for each problem. Furthermore, due to the amount of time needed to solve these problems that grows exponentially with the size of the problem, we propose near-optimal algorithms that provide good solutions in reasonable time
