Previous issue date: 2006 / Bartolomé de las Casas viveu no século XVI, época em que teve que lidar com
fenômenos de atritos culturais entre o ocidente imperial e os povos por aquele submetidos,
momento em que teve que se abrir para pensar o Outro. Para os sistemas imperiais, as
narrações históricas passam a ter um papel fundamental como gênero que inicia a
modernidade, funda a identidade dos civilizadores e deixa entrever os limites do
pensamento colonial. Os textos lascasianos se fundamentam, sobretudo, na filosofia de
Francisco de Vitória, indo além no reconhecimento da autonomia indígena, e dialogam
polemizam com as principais correntes ideológicas e autores que estudam a colonização.
O dominicano Las Casas se dirige ao poder ( o Príncipe ) e à crítica (adversários
intelectuais), mas também já visa o grande público utilizando para isso os recursos retóricos
adequados ao gênero de testemunho-denúncia, e a nova imprensa. Precursor do pensamento
liminar latino americano deve ser objeto dos novos estudos culturais.

The Spanish masters : the 16th century presence in the Universal Declaration of Human RightsHensley, Judge Robert 05 October 2011 (has links)
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was adopted in 1948 as a response to the atrocities of the Second World War. This analysis seeks to trace the influence of three Spanish masters of the 16th century, Las Casas, Vitoria and Suárez on the rights language and theory presented in the UDHR. Particular attention is given to the debates surrounding the Amerindians and the Spanish Conquest of the Americas, as well as burgeoning discussions of international relations in the emerging modern age. These debates provided the context in which the three theorists developed their understanding of rights and how the rule of the natural law was to be understood in the modern age. While the vision of the UDHR still remains to be achieved, the influence of the three masters is clearly recognized and much credit is due them for laying the foundation of modern human rights theory. / text

Previous issue date: 2010-03-08 / Slightly more than half a century after the discovery of the New World, Spanish Conquest in full, would take place in Valladolid in 1550 and 1551, an unprecedented event: a public debate starring two remarkable characters, namely, the Dominican Friar Bartolome de Las Casas and Juan Gines de Sepulveda. This debate is known in history as the Controversy of Valladolid, and had as main objective, to discuss how the Indians of the New World would be treated, what were their rights and their responsibilities. This thesis discusses the context in which this controversy took place, its characters and, of course, itself, in its arguments, exposure mode and constituent structure.(AU) / Pouco mais de meio século depois da descoberta do Novo Mundo, em plena Conquista espanhola, ocorreria em Valladolid, nos anos de 1550 e 1551, um evento sem precedentes: um debate público protagonizado por duas notáveis personagens, a saber: o Frei dominicano Bartolomé de Las Casas e Juan Ginés de Sepúlveda. Este debate ficou conhecido na História como a Controvérsia de Valladolid, e teve, como principal objetivo, discutir o modo como deveriam ser tratados os índios do Novo Mundo, quais eram os seus direitos e as suas atribuições. Pastor in the Shadow of Violence : Gustavo Gutiérrez as a Public Pastoral Theologian in Peru in the 1980s and 1990sKristenson, Olle January 2009 (has links)
This dissertation is a study of the role of Gustavo Gutiérrez as a public pastor in the 1980s and 1990s in Peru. His collaboration with the Lima newspaper La República from the early 1980s gave him a figurative pulpit from which he addressed the Peruvian public on specific occasions. The fundamental question in the dissertation is: How did Gutiérrez respond as pastor to the Peruvian public and how did he express his pastoral concern? The study analyses materials that has not been object for previous studies, such as theological essays and articles in newspapers and periodicals. With inspiration from discourse analysis four discourses have been identified in Gutiérrez’ texts. These discourses interact and through this interaction Gutiérrez formulates his pastoral message. For the socio-political analysis two political discourses are used, the radical and the liberal. The radical political discourse deals with justice for the poor and liberation from oppression as a condition for peace and harmony in society, which are in focus for the liberal political discourse. With the Catholic theological discourse Gutiérrez sets the socio-political analysis in relation to Catholic doctrine and through the pastoral theological discourse he gives reason for hope and inspiration to action. As an advocate for a theology of life, Gutiérrez urges those who read and listen to him to break the pattern of death and opt for this theology of life. In his role as pastor, Gutiérrez speaks words of comfort and encouragement but also words of admonition and warning to those in power who have the capacity to transform society.
