An IEEE 802.15.4 Packet Error Classification Algorithm : Discriminating Between Multipath Fading and Attenuation and WLAN

Chen, Nan January 2014 (has links)
In wireless sensor networks, communications are usually destroyed by signal attenuation, multipath fading and different kinds of interferences like WLAN and microwave oven interference. In order to build a stable wireless communication system, reactions like retransmission mechanisms are necessary. Since the way we must react to interference is different from the way we react to multipathfading and attenuation, the retransmission mechanism should be adjusted in different ways under those different cicumstances. Under this condition, channel diagnostics for discriminating the causes that corrupt the packets between multipath fading and attenuation (MFA) and WLAN interference are imperative. This paper presents a frame bit error rate (F-BER) regulated algorithm based on a joint RSSI-LQI classifier that may correctly diagnose the channel status. This discriminator is implemented on MicaZ sensor devices equipped with CC2420 transceivers. This discriminator is able to improve the accuracy to 91%. Although we need to wait for 2 or 3 necessary packets to make a decision, higher stability and reliability are presented when operating this discriminator.

Wireless vital signs monitoring system for ubiquitous healthcare with practical tests and reliability analysis

Lee, Y.-D. (Young-Dong) 30 November 2010 (has links)
Abstract The main objective of this thesis project is to implement a wireless vital signs monitoring system for measuring the ECG of a patient in the home environment. The research focuses on two specific research objectives: 1) the development of a distributed healthcare system for vital signs monitoring using wireless sensor network devices and 2) a practical test and performance evaluation for the reliability for such low-rate wireless technology in ubiquitous health monitoring applications. The first section of the thesis describes the design and implementation of a ubiquitous healthcare system constructed from tiny components for the home healthcare of elderly persons. The system comprises a smart shirt with ECG electrodes and acceleration sensors, a wireless sensor network node, a base station and a server computer for the continuous monitoring of ECG signals. ECG data is a commonly used vital sign in clinical and trauma care. The ECG data is displayed on a graphical user interface (GUI) by transferring it to a PDA or a terminal PC. The smart shirt is a wearable T-shirt designed to collect ECG and acceleration signals from the human body in the course of daily life. In the second section, a performance evaluation of the reliability of IEEE 802.15.4 low-rate wireless ubiquitous health monitoring is presented. Three scenarios of performance studies are applied through practical tests: 1) the effects of the distance between sensor nodes and base-station, 2) the deployment of the number of sensor nodes in a network and 3) data transmission using different time intervals. These factors were measured to analyse the reliability of the developed technology in low-rate wireless ubiquitous health monitoring applications. The results showed how the relationship between the bit-error-rate (BER) and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) was affected when varying the distance between sensor node and base-station, through the deployment of the number of sensor nodes in a network and through data transmission using different time intervals.

Exploration of Ataxia Telangiectasia and Rad3-Related’s (ATR’s) Role in Cell Death Regulation: Implications in Development, Cancer, and Stroke

Cartwright, Brian 01 December 2019 (has links)
From gametogenesis until death an organism’s genome is under constant bombardment from endogenous and exogenous sources of DNA damage. To maintain genomic integrity amid this damage, cells have evolved responses which allow them to either preserve viability for recovery or initiate self-destructive pathways depending on the severity of DNA damage. One protein involved in initiating and carrying out these responses is the protein kinase ataxia telangiectasia and Rad3-related (ATR). ATR is known primarily for its regulatory role in initiating the checkpoint-signaling cascade following DNA damage and replicative stress. These signaling events lead to cell cycle arrest, DNA repair, or apoptosis when damage is too extreme. In addition to these kinase-dependent roles, ATR also is capable of directly blocking the intrinsic apoptotic pathway through structural sequestration of the proapoptotic protein tBid. The sum of these regulatory events is a delicate balancing act resulting in either cell death or cell survival depending on the severity of the damage and the differentiation state of the cell in question. In the following studies, we sought to investigate the complex interplay of ATR’s kinase and structural roles in determining cellular fate. First, we investigated the structural role of prolyl isomerization of ATR across development by using mouse models of two isomerically locked forms of ATR which were previously shown to lock cytoplasmic ATR into a single isomer. Studies showed that ATR which is locked in ATR-L (trans-ATR, hATR-P429A/mATR-P432A) is embryonically lethal and that heterozygotes tend to have neurological and other developmental abnormalities. This contrasts with ATR-H (cis-ATR, hATR-S428A/mATR-S431A), which is viable, but naturally prone to cancer development. Next, we used various in vitro stroke-like conditions to test if ATR inhibition could serve as a therapeutic target for stroke. We found that ATR inhibition is protective in non-dividing neuron-like cells; whereas, it potentiates death in cycling glial and immune-like cycling cells. Thus, ATR inhibition could likely be a target for both neuron sparing and immunosuppressive anti-stroke therapeutic strategies. Taken together, these studies provide insightful information into the structural and pathological roles of ATR in development and disease.

Stanovení chybovosti optovláknového spoje / The Optical Link Error-Rate Determination

Joch, Antonín January 2008 (has links)
The master thesis discusses physical causes of light polarization and problems brought by nascence of Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD). These problems occur especially by high speed systems on optical cable traces. The thesis deals with actuation of transmitted signal by influence of Inter Symbol Interference and it also deals with methods for its measuring and compensation. As a results of measurements are in text presented data provided by EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. Company. Significant part of the thesis focuses on optical link Bit Error Rate (BER) which is connected with Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and signal quality (Q-factor). Further on it is possible to find in text about so called eye diagram which is display mode that shows influence of communication channel on shape of the transmitted signal. To this diagram is related another one called constellation diagram which describes modulation mode and makes it possible to map dispersion of signal points around their nominal values. In connection with so called trajectory it makes vector diagram. Practical part includes depiction of these diagrams in MATLAB development environment.

Analýza a modelování přenosu signálu ve standardech DVB-H/SH / Analysis and Simulation of the Signals Transmission in the DVB-H/SH Standards

Polák, Ladislav January 2013 (has links)
