Particle-In-Cell Method To Predict Plasma Behavior Between Two Plates

Tsai, Jie-Cheng 09 August 2011 (has links)
This study uses the PIC (particle-in-cell) method to simulate unsteady three-dimensional behavior in argon plasma under low pressure , low density between two plates. Plasma has been widely used in materials processing, film manufacturing, nuclear fusion , light source , etc. It is therefore important to study Plasma behavior . This model ignores secondary electron emission , recombination between ions and electrons and assumes a uniform distribution of the neutrals having velocity of a Maxwellian distribution. The lower plate in subject to a biased voltage and magnetic field. The result show the effects of a biased voltage in density and velocity of the ion and electron with the low plate.

Influences of Between-Partner Congruity, Ad Focus and Consumer Hedonic Shopping Motivation on Evaluation of Co-branded Product

HSU, Nai-Jen 15 August 2011 (has links)
¡§Brand¡¨ is not only the most valuable asset, but also a powerful marketing tool for the enterprises. As progressing of marketing management, co-branding strategy which combines two brand partners can bring profits and sustainable competitive advantages to the corporate enterprises. Between-partner congruity (BPC) has been identified as an influential factor in the success of a co-branding strategy, and there are two mainstreams of research in co-branding strategy exist: (1) linear relationship between BPC and co-brand evaluation or (2) reverse-U curve relationship between BPC and co-brand evaluation. Based on such inconsistent findings, this study explores how hedonic shopping motivation and ad focus affect consumers¡¦ evaluation toward the co-branded product through different levels of BPC. The present study employs an experimental design to investigate the effects of BPC (high vs. moderate vs. low), ad focus(product vs. brand), and hedonic shopping motivation (high vs. low) on consumers¡¦ evaluation of co-branded product. A 3x2x2 factorial design is conducted. Six different scenarios are established through virtual co-branded cell phone advertisement. Median split is used to distinguish consumers into high and low hedonic shopping motivation. Consumers¡¦ evaluation is measured by purchase intention, attitude toward the co-branded product, and perceived quality. The results indicated that when the ad focus is product, there is a linear relationship between BPC and consumers¡¦ evaluation. However, when the ad focus is brand, the aforementioned relationship becomes weaker. The linear relationship is robust for those consumers with low hedonic shopping motivation. On the other hand, when the ad focus is brand, moderate BPC would lead to higher purchase intention and quality perception for consumers with high hedonic shopping motivation. Based on the above findings, influences of ad focus should be considered when different levels of BPC are determined. Marketers should choose the right focus for higher evaluation toward co-branded products.

The Empirical of Regional Disparities and Housing Price: Evidenced from Taiwan

Kang, Zhe-wei 17 July 2012 (has links)
The history of Taiwan has formed the developed structure of Taiwan cities, policies of industry development caused the main markets focusing in north Taiwan, generating the problem of uneven development between regions. This article adopts ¡§New Economic Geography¡¨ proposed by Krugman to discuss the differences between north region and south region in Taiwan. Moreover, this article extends the issue to real estate market and researches the influence of industrial clusters, transportation construction, labor market and migration of employed population. The empirical results indicate that money supply, industrial cluster and the construction of transportation will affect the development of regional house prices.

A Study on Marine Protected Area Conflict Management and Partnerships between Governmental and Private Organization ¡XTaking Chinwan Inland Sea for Example

Liu, Shu-Ling 25 August 2003 (has links)
Abstract As an island state, Taiwan has developed a delicately close relationship with the resources in the ocean around her. The Pescadores, or commonly known as Penghu, is an archipelago located in the middle of the Taiwan Strait to the southwest of the Taiwan Proper. The waters here are crystal clear with every element there should be to form the best fishing grounds. For example, there are endless intertidal zones rich in crustaceans and sea snails and clams for baby fish of all kinds to feed on, and the coral forests in deeper waters offer perfect shelters for schools and schools of adult fish. However, in recent years, due to over-fishing, the oceanic environment has been rapidly and severely damaged, resources decayed. To retain diversity and vitality for oceanic resources and to make fishing here a permanently maintainable business, establishing oceanic nature preserves is a necessary, urgent thing to do. Nevertheless, restrictions and limitations that would come along with the establishment of nature preserves could very probably cause conflicts in between the fishermen, local public, experts in this field, as well as the local government. The Goal of this research is to derive effective and efficient principles of conflict management. By applying the conflict management mechanism the author offers to the rules of oceanic nature preserves, we should hope that the preserves in Penghu will set an example for the others to come in Taiwan. This research is basically a qualitative study. The¡§structured interview method¡¨ is employed to standardize questions for interviewees to answer or choose to answer. By providing interviewees with the framework of whole idea and asking them to answer similar questions, we can explore deeper into the core of the research. The interviewees include executives of Penghu County Chinwan Marine Protected Area, other officials concerned, experts that care much about Penghu¡¦s oceanic environment, nature protection group members, representatives of the two nearby villages, and the villagers. Besides that, this research also covers some depth study as to the uniqueness and variety of the coral communities in this region. This research has revealed that all people interviewed consider the establishment of the preserve site very important and essential to the preservation of both fishery resources and biological diversity. Out of the seventeen interviewees, thirteen (that is, nearly 80% of the people involved) do not think that the preserve site will do any harm to their interests, while the others do. The biggest conflicts are that the local people in the fishing business are worried about their careers being threatened, that local people have not felt well respected and participated in this public matter, and that there is quite some misunderstanding as to the policy regarding the preserve site. However, the villagers do wish to work this out through such ways of communication as holding hearings, villagers¡¦ meetings, or carrying our surveys. According to the press, this case, being a pre-conflict environmental policy issue in nature, has been experiencing quite some resistance. However, this research reveals that the negative powers are not so strong as reported; the desired balance can be reached when all factors involved have been properly taken into account. For example, by developing eco-tourism, local people can turn their fishing careers into scuba diving coaching, boat rental, or the like to retain their economical competitiveness. Besides, the government can help assemble a community development committee and a patrol squad for the villagers to spontaneously join in. This way, the government and local people can develop a partnership toward mutual profits instead of suffering from conflicts.

The effects of MNC subsidiary's initiative on it's mandate of other markets

Chen, Hsiang-ling 21 June 2004 (has links)
In the field of International business management, there is more and more concentration on the topic about the role of subsidiaries in the Multinational corporations (MNC). Subsidiaries not only accept the order of head-quarter but also contribute the competitive advantage to MNCs. Depending upon the trend of the academic research The subject of the research focuses on the initiatives of Taiwan subsidiaries and their mandate in MNCs. Subsidiary initiative is defined as the activities subsidiaries take to increase the integration efficiency, local responsiveness and innovation activities. These activities include internal market development, external market development and innovation development. Subsidiary mandate is defined as the extended level and charter of decision making. Because subsidiaries have different value activities and charters which are set by the head-quarter, they will have different directions of their initiatives and mandate. Through the interview five subsidiaries in Taiwan such as Ciba, Philips, IBM, Sram and 3M, the basis of this research is set. First, the analysis logistic is begun from the value activities and charter of the subsidiaries set by the head-quarter. Second, we compare the types of the initiatives taken by the subsidiaries. Third, we list the mandate of the subsidiaries and compare them with the changed mandate after taking initiatives. Through the analysis step, we conclude the relationship of the subsidiary initiative and subsidiary mandate.

Research on Conflicts between Urbanism and Ruralism in Cong-wen Shen¡¦s Novels

Feng, Yu-ting 27 January 2003 (has links)
The main purpose of the thesis is to analyze the phenomenon of conflicts between urbanism and ruralism, which reveals the development of early Chinese society and social collective consciousness, thereby comprehending the social meanings of Congwen Shen¡¦s novels; to explore the connection of themes of conflicts between urbanism and ruralism, tradition of the May Fourth realistic literature, and the early local realistic literature, and to interpret the literary meanings of Shen¡¦s novels. Besides the introduction and conclusion, the text is divided into three parts: Chapter Two is the ordination of sociologists¡¦ research on the transition of Chinese society from Ching dynasty to 1949, to serve as the frame of reference of Shen¡¦s novels for later-on discussion. Chapter Three is to apply Lucien Goldmann¡¦s literary critique to analyzing the binary opposite structure in Shen¡¦s novels and homologies of Chinese economy, politics, cultural transition, and collective consciousness. Chapter Four is to analyze the theme of urban and rural conflicts in Shen¡¦s novels, which may inherit from the tradition of realistic literature, to compare similarity and dissimilarity of the important local realistic literature in 1920s or 1930s, and to explore how the author and the social collective keep objectivism and subjectivism in balance, thereby evaluating the status of Shen¡¦s novels in early Chinese literature.

Using PIC Method to Predict Transport Variables in Plasma Near an Electrically Biased Surface

Huang, Chih-tsai 09 August 2009 (has links)
This study uses the PIC (Particle-in-cell) method to simulate unsteady three-dimensional transport variables in argon plasma under low pressure and weak ionization between two planar electrodes suddenly biased by a negative voltage. Plasma has been widely used in etching, ion implantation, light source, and encountered in nuclear fusion, etc. Studying transport processes of plasmas therefore is important. This work ignores magnetic field, secondary electron emission, recombination between ions and electrons, and assumes a uniform distribution of the neutrals having velocity of a Maxwellian distribution. Accounting for elastic collisions between electrons and neutrals, ions and neutrals, and inelastic collisions resulting in ionization from impacting neutrals by electrons, and charge exchange between ions and neutrals, the computed results in this work quantitatively show non-isotropic pressures, shear stresses and heat conduction of the ions across the sheath to the surfaces suddenly biased by a dc negative voltage.

A Comparative Analysis Between a Preacher's Practice and Homiletic Theory

Castillow, Curtis 01 January 2010 (has links)
This qualitative research compared the practice of an expert preacher to co re concepts in homiletic theory (the art and craft of preaching), searching for discrepancies between what theory suggested and what the preacher practiced. It also sought to validate that the preacher practiced what homiletic theorists prescribed and to inform homiletic theory by describing strategies he employed unlike those espoused in homiletic theory. The research also revealed that the preacher had a personal homiletic philosophy where in everything in his preparation, message design, and deli very centered on relevancy. The preacher felt strongly tha t the message had to apply to his listeners in meaning li.rl ways. The preacher's strength centered not so much on how he prese nted, but what he prese nted. Hi s sermons were fill ed with what homilet ic theori st Sunu kjian call ed " time less truths." They made the preacher's sermons insightful, hopeful, and most of all, relevant to his listeners To discover whether the participant's practice was congruent with theory, I first identified seminal theories. They were class ified into the following modifi ed version or Broadus's ca tegories of ideal preaching: (a) co ntent. (b) arra ngement, (c) introduction, trans ition, and conclusion, (d) style, (e) illustra tions, and (f) the del ivery. I crea ted a rubric from the literature review as a standard from whi ch I compared the part icipant 's audio and video sermons. The rubric had six categories, 39 subcategories, and 58 characteristics of ideal preaching to which the preacher was compared. The anal ys is included frequency counts of certain words, phrases, illustrations, and the results of the Flesch's Reading Ease score. To find strategies employed by the participant but not represented in the literature, I also used an inductive method to analyze the integral parts and patterns of the sermons. The analysis revealed that the preacher's practice was congruent with theory yet the preacher had never read homiletic theory. Because the preacher was able to sidestep the need to study homiletics, it was concluded that for him preaching was an intuitive art/craft.

The role of rhetoric in legitimizing authority : the speeches of Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah during the 2006 War

Hopkins, Rebecca Ann Gutow 16 August 2012 (has links)
In 2006, Hizbullah operatives captured two Israeli soldiers in a cross-border attack, prompting a 34-day war in which neither Israel nor Hizbullah emerged victorious. Yet despite Hizbullah’s instigation of the war, Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary-General of Hizbullah, largely retained both his popular appeal and his legitimacy during and after the conflict. Noting this paradox, I examine how Nasrallah maintained his legitimacy, defined as having an accepted claim to authority, throughout and after the war. To do so, I perform content analysis on the seven major speeches that Nasrallah delivered during the war in order to answer the following question: How did Nasrallah utilize rhetoric to maintain his legitimacy as Hizbullah’s leader throughout the 2006 war between Israel and Hizbullah? I then draw upon these observations to discuss my subsidiary research question: How does having a better understanding of political rhetoric, particularly in terms of Hizbullah, affect U.S. policies towards the Middle East, and specifically in Lebanon? I argue that Nasrallah framed his message in these speeches using three particular themes: the “us versus them” narrative; the fulfillment of a divinely inspired mission, also known as the NasR ilaahi, or the divine triumph theme; and Hizbullah’s role as the protector of the Lebanese and the Palestinians. In tandem with Hizbullah’s self-identification as a resistance movement, I show that Nasrallah continuously qualified Hizbullah’s mission as defensive. I also demonstrate that Nasrallah chose his words to foster a sense of community and common purpose. Additionally, I note that he often appealed to values widely held through the Arab world, including the sense of karaama, or dignity, and taDaamun, or solidarity, in his remarks. To answer the second question, I review current U.S. policies towards Lebanon and note the ways in which these policies may not resonate with the Lebanese population. I argue that current U.S. policies, which focus on supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces, the Internal Security Forces, developing stronger civil society, and promoting democratization, do not counter Hizbullah’s power partly because U.S. public diplomacy initiatives do not take Nasrallah’s rhetoric and legitimacy into account. / text
