This master’s research is a phenomenological inquiry into the pedagogical moment in teacher education. This phenomenon is explored through a conceptual lens that draws from the phenomenological pedagogical ideals that are intrinsic to the work of both Ted Aoki and Max van Manen. Following a comprehensive outline of the phenomenological methodology that guides this thesis, the pedagogical moment is described in terms of three phases: tension, opening and pulse. The phenomenon is further explored through several sub themes relating to the lifeworld existentials (time, body, space, relation to other). This research intertwines several phenomenological concepts (such as intentionality, embodiment, consciousness, pedagogy, and motion sensitive phenomenology), within the context of one “living” phenomenon as a way of shedding light on what it is like to experience a pedagogical moment from within the tensions of practicum teaching.

According to the Swedish curriculum every child has the right to feel safe in school. Also according to CRC (committee on the rights of the child) the child has the right to be respected and provided for his or hers basic needs. The teachers must also develop equality for the children and they should also counteract insults. But even though we have these laws and rules some children feel unsafe at school. Every day 60 000 children are being bullied at schools in Sweden. This is a huge problem that needs to be addressed. The aim of this thesis is to investigate teachers in different schools and their strategies to handle bullying. The method is qualitative interviews of teachers. The result indicates that the teachers do see things differently from each other, and that can lead to complications later on. The complications do not only regard the student in that way that they are being treated differently in different schools. It can also affect the teachers in that way that they does not see the harm in what some kids do that other would call bullying.

This thesis aims to codify the physical in-between condition to understand how space is perceived in moments of time. The relationship between two dimensional vision and three dimensional space is utilized to direct orientation and give spacial identity to urban outdoor conditions and the architecture that inhabits it.
The site is located in Greenville, South Carolina between a single family residential neighborhood and a dense multi-use downtown condition. The land was once used for a sanatorium and then Greenville General Hospital. What remains is a large plot of land amongst small residential plots searching for a sense of identity and orientation. As the neighborhood turns to multi-family housing and commercial development draws near, there is awareness of a fleeting sense of place that will be lost if a firm foundation in historical and contextual identity is not established. / Master of Architecture / The in-between, when considered physically, can exist in many ways. This thesis presents four types of the physical in-between which may be perceived to exist in the built environment. These in-between conditions are the methods used to choreograph views intended to evoke emotional perception. An occupant's space in time determines the location and nature of the in between through two dimensional vision. The in between may invite movement through space at varying speed, or may invite stillness to absorb a two dimensional moment. It is only through change in perspective that the in between may be fully understood. The in between may be constrained and more specifically defined, or it may be more arbitrary and indicate an open more natural spatial condition.

Design drawings mediate between the world of ideas and the world of things, spanning the intangible and tangible. However, contemporary technical architectural drawings, in establishing a direct relationship between the drawing and its object, tend to base this relationship on a visual paradigm that authenticates the visible physical world over the conceptual invisible world, including that of the designer's imagination. The result is that the drawing may become a reduced utilitarian tool for documentation, devoid of any meaningful value in terms of a kind of knowledge that could potentially link the visible and invisible.
The imaginal drawing, assuming mundus imaginalis, is an ontological third world mediating between the invisible and visible worlds. As such, it offers an alternative view of the architectural drawing. Inhabitants of this domain are subtle bodies that hold physical attributes (e.g. form, proportion, color), highly evocative, yet with no matter. Representing a world of similitudes, the imaginal is fundamental to the field of architectural representation, as it introduces a perspective in which the architectural drawing finds an ontological home, wherein the drawing becomes a true in-between territory, mediating between the invisible and visible. In this realm, the drawing becomes a subtle architecture in itself.
Prevalent Islamic geometric architectural drawings, namely girih, which lend themselves to the imaginal, provide clues by which the drawing is recognized as an in-between. The geometric interlocking patterns they feature, the girih mode, represent a creative agent by which the built transcends the physical world and penetrates realm of spirituality. An examination the girih mode in its intellectual, imaginative, and physical contexts re-identifies these geometric drawings as a productive realm of consciousness.
As an aperture to the imaginal, these architectural drawings open the door to a world of its own, wherein the drawing has a true subtle existence. In this view, the drawing starts from the domain of human imagination with the possibility of ascending to the realm of the intellect, while at the same time descending to the realm of the senses to guide the architect toward a built object. Seen this way, the imaginal drawing can offer an in-between state of being and becoming, a subtle matter, lighter than the building and denser than the idea"essentially representing a mode of consciousness involving the conscious imagination. / Ph. Those who eat share a relationship with design. The Museum of Gastronomy, a museum located at the Washington D.C. National Mall, would dedicate a space to a full-sense experience pursuing a relationship between food, culture, and design. The National Mall is a symbolic setting dedicated to U.S. heritage via museums, memorials, and the honoring of legacies accessible to the public. As the U.S. is a melting pot of different nationalities, this museum would fill an open niche devoted to celebrating the cultural heritage of cooking throughout the cycle of food consumption.
As consumers, regardless of notice or intention, we have an intimate relationship with food as means of survival. Cooking, the method for preparing this vital element, is also an expression of culture, style, and use of available resources. In essence, cooking is an everyday design: a crucial aspect of our very survival.
Therefore:
food → cooking → design → survival → food → cooking
Similarly, it is the architect's mission to reach an effective design with available "ingredients," forces, or kit-of-parts within a project. In the Museum of Gastronomy, the architect would become the unifying source between a relationship literally built between food, people, and design in an interactive experience. This would result in a space dedicated to showcasing and combining the concept of "cooking is designing."
Incorporating these components into a museum located at the National Mall would personify an experience of the cooking processes as a building block of every-day observation of design. / Master of Architecture

The focus of this thesis is to investigate the roles of leaders, managers, and mutual roles in aligning strategy and project management (ASPM) in public sector organisations (PSOs) in developing countries (DCs). ASPM as a phenomenon has emerged to support organisations to improve the performance of their projects and fulfil their strategic objectives. In reviewing the normative literature in this area, it is evident that a limited number of studies have been conducted on ASPM, particularly studies related to PSOs in DCs, where the statistics reflect a higher percentage of failed and/or delayed projects. To the best of this author's knowledge, and having conducted a thorough review of the literature, it is believed that none of the existing research studies conducted on ASPM have explored the roles of leaders, managers, and mutual roles in ASPM in PSOs. Thus, the author asserts that it is of high importance to investigate this area within ASPM and to prepare a study that contributes by shedding light on the roles of leaders, managers, and common roles between them in ASPM in PSOs in DCs. This thesis contributes to the body of knowledge related to strategic alignment and management, project management, the public sector and leadership/management as it investigates the roles of leaders, managers, and mutual roles in ASPM in PSOs in DCs. Furthermore, this thesis presents the factors that influence leaders and managers as they carry out their individual as well as mutual roles. The proposed conceptual framework is developed and presented in Chapter 3. From a practical perspective, this thesis contributes by providing the decision makers with a tool that has been tested through multiple units in KSA government case, which may support them in improving the performance of their projects and bring benefits to organisations. In addition to that, in Chapter 5 this thesis presents some lessons learned from the pilot unit study. The author assumes that such the conceptual framework and the factors influencing the roles of managers and leaders and the mutual roles in ASPM are significant and novel and may help to improve project performance, highlighting the importance of strategy management, and ultimately improving the performance in PSOs. The author uses qualitative, interpretive, multiple unit studies research strategy to validate the proposed conceptual framework. The author found from the pilot unit study and other four units study results, present that this kind of approach contributes to more strong decisions for ASPM implementation and highlight that it is acceptable by the unit studies. In spite of the fact that these results cannot be generalised, they can allow others researcher's to link their views with the ones reported in this thesis. This thesis proposes tests and presents a novel framework for ASPM and contributes to the body of knowledge by enriching the literature. The findings from the five units study organisations reveal that the proposed framework is acceptable and clearly indicate the significance of ASPM in PSOs.
