Aspectos gerais da produção científica dos programas Stricto Sensu em contabilidade no Brasil: um estudo baseado nas teses e dissertações / General aspects of scientific production of Stricto Sensu programs in accounting in Brazil: a study based on theses and dissertations

Bonfim, Marisse Dizaró 19 November 2013 (has links)
This study aimed to determine the characteristics of scientific research in accounting and controlling, through the analysis of dissertations and thesis produced by Stricto Sensu programs in Brazil, in the 2007-2009 period, when 757 works were produced, of which 719 dissertations and 38 thesis, which constitutes our research universe. The sample refers to 645 studies, which represents 85% of the total thesis divided into 38 thesis and 607 lectures. The research problem is defined around the contribution of the research programs of post-graduate programs for the promotion and development of scientific knowledge. Using the technique of bibliometric analysis of co word analysis, was built a mapping of thesis and dissertations in the programs, in order to meet the trend, the themes, the databases most used in empirical studies, the sectors of economy covered by the research and if there are evidences of research institutionalization. The concept of institutionalization is related to the Science Information (WITHLEY, 1980) , which states that the formal and informal structures established in a study field guide and legitimate research activities. Were identified research fronts in education and research in accounting at UniFecap, structure and cost of capital in FEARP, informational content in FEA - SP and UNB. The area of highest concentration was \"controlling and accounting\" with 40.2% of study subjects whose \"management control in organizations\" and \"controller applied to public administration\" themes were more frequent. The second one was \"accounting and finance for external users\", representing 30.10%, which showed the \"environmental accounting\", with a focus on environmental disclosure and tax accounting, as an important research area. The researches in the \"financial market\", \"credit\" and \"capital\" accounted 21.9% of topics related to the disclosure evidences, contents of information and accounting measurement and, finally, the studies focused on education and accounting research represented 7.9% of the defenses in the period focusing on vocational training. The data sources used were the data of public companies and public administration at all levels. The sectors covered, in addition to public and publicly traded companies, were the industries and universities. In this environment was identified trend studies managerial approach. Were awarded 56 scholarships, witch three was CNPq granted to USP. CAPES granted the others. The South region of the country received 47% of aid , Southeast 37%, and 12% for Midwest and Northeast got 3.57% . The UNISINOS received the most of aid (21.43 %), followed by USP-SP (14.14 %) and UFPR (12.50%).

Similarity and comparison of academic ranking algorithms. / 學術排名算法的相似性比較 / Xue shu pai ming suan fa de xiang si xing bi jiao

January 2013 (has links)
In recent years, some of the publications database become more publically accessible, and are starting to provide additional information users can query (this is specially the case with Libra). This allows us to study the author community as a social network, analyzing not only the statistics about papers published by an author, individually at a time, but also an author’s choice and extent in connecting to other authors (co-authoring), and an author’s influence on other authors. Our approach is todesign various social network type of metrics to measure the traits defined above. / The main algorithm Author Influence Ranking (AIR), which is analogous to PageRank algorithm, is defined by taking all three relationships into consideration. Other algorithms, based on a single relationship or combination of different relationships, include: Connection, ranking algorithm using coauthor-ship; Follower Count, ranking algorithm using the number of authors who cite papers of a particular author; Follower, ranking algorithm using citation-ship; Balanced Citation Count, ranking algorithm using citation counts normalized by coauthors. / To show properties of different algorithms and do comparison among them, we design and study primitive cases. For some algorithms, the teleportation vector leads to the deviation at certain extent. Therefore, we study different teleportation vectors by tuning a parameter β(details discussed in Chapter 4) from 0 (uniformly distributed) to 1 (proportional to authors’ productivity). With different β, we define Distance to measure the changes in results of these algorithms. / Furthermore, comparisons among these algorithms are conducted by using different publication dataset and we choose Spearman Footrule Distance in our experiment to do comparison for pair of algorithms. Rank value and cumulative value are used in the comparisons: based on the comparisons using rank value, we conclude several observations regarding these algorithms. While the comparisons based on cumulative value help us confirm the "efficiency" of AIR. For using AIR metric, we can find out those really influential researchers who may not be ranked high by other metrics. We study the influence of Turing award winners and all the Turing Award winners scored at least "B", from which we can see AIR’s "accuracy". We also apply AIR metric in the real situation. We study researchers who have Grade "A"(the grade will be discussed in Chapter 6) in Influence and find most of them have good positions in reality, which help us justify the validity of AIR.("efficiency", "accuracy" and "validity" will be discussed more in Chapter 6.) / Detailed summary in vernacular field only. / Detailed summary in vernacular field only. / Detailed summary in vernacular field only. / Detailed summary in vernacular field only. / Song, Qianqian. / Thesis (M.Phil.)--Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2013. / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 78-82). / Abstracts also in Chinese. / Abstract --- p.i / Acknowledgement --- p.iv / Chapter 1 --- Introduction --- p.1 / Chapter 1.1 --- Motivation --- p.1 / Chapter 1.2 --- Background --- p.2 / Chapter 1.3 --- Our Contribution and Organization --- p.5 / Chapter 2 --- Academic Ranking Algorithms --- p.8 / Chapter 2.1 --- Publication Statistics Algorithms --- p.10 / Chapter 2.1.1 --- Citation Count --- p.10 / Chapter 2.1.2 --- Balanced Citation Count --- p.11 / Chapter 2.1.3 --- Follower Count --- p.12 / Chapter 2.2 --- PageRank-like Algorithms --- p.13 / Chapter 2.2.1 --- The PageRank Algorithm --- p.13 / Chapter 2.2.2 --- Author Influence Ranking --- p.15 / Chapter 2.2.3 --- Science Author Rank Algorithm --- p.17 / Chapter 2.2.4 --- Connection --- p.20 / Chapter 2.2.5 --- Follower --- p.21 / Chapter 3 --- Analysis of Metrics Based on Primitive Cases --- p.22 / Chapter 3.1 --- The Original Case --- p.23 / Chapter 3.2 --- Case for Three General Authors --- p.24 / Chapter 3.3 --- Case for Productive Authors --- p.26 / Chapter 3.4 --- Cases for Productive Author and Coauthor-ship --- p.28 / Chapter 3.4.1 --- Type i --- p.28 / Chapter 3.4.2 --- Type ii --- p.30 / Chapter 3.5 --- Case for Coauthor-ship --- p.32 / Chapter 3.6 --- Cases for Citation Count and Balanced Citation Count --- p.34 / Chapter 3.6.1 --- Type i --- p.34 / Chapter 3.6.2 --- Type ii --- p.36 / Chapter 4 --- Key Parameter in PageRank-like Algorithms --- p.39 / Chapter 4.1 --- The Key Parameter β --- p.39 / Chapter 4.2 --- Comparison Based on β --- p.40 / Chapter 4.3 --- Discussion --- p.43 / Chapter 5 --- Algorithms Comparison --- p.46 / Chapter 5.1 --- The Description of Our Comparisons --- p.46 / Chapter 5.2 --- Similarity Between Different Metrics --- p.47 / Chapter 5.3 --- Two Dimensions Comparison --- p.51 / Chapter 5.3.1 --- Comparison in Algorithms Dimension --- p.51 / Chapter 5.3.2 --- Comparison in Time Dimension --- p.54 / Chapter 6 --- Case Study and Validation --- p.56 / Chapter 6.1 --- AIR v.s Other Metrics --- p.57 / Chapter 6.1.1 --- AIR v.s Citation Count --- p.58 / Chapter 6.1.2 --- AIR v.s Follower Count --- p.59 / Chapter 6.1.3 --- AIR v.s Follower --- p.61 / Chapter 6.1.4 --- AIR v.s Connection --- p.62 / Chapter 6.1.5 --- AIR v.s the First Active Year --- p.64 / Chapter 6.2 --- AIR v.s Rank in Reality --- p.65 / Chapter 6.2.1 --- Ranking Award Recipients --- p.65 / Chapter 6.2.2 --- Top AIR Ranking in Society --- p.65 / Chapter 7 --- Conclusion --- p.76 / Bibliography --- p.78

História e geografia da pesquisa brasileira em erosão do solo / History and geography of brazilian soil erosion research

Alberto Giaroli de Oliveira Pereira Barretto 21 September 2007 (has links)
Studies of soil science history are rare and Brazilian scientific community has not given attention to this subject yet. The present study focus on the formation of brazilian soil erosion research from a bibliometric approach. A wide set of published scientific papers was organized into a relational database an analized by means of SQL queries and GIS tools. Quantitative indicators were calculated and the research geography mapped. The results point to a quite recent genesis of brazilian soil erosion research and its tendency to be centralized in a few institutions and authors from South and Southeast of Brazil. Furthermore, thematic data analysis indicates a convergence in erosion studies mainly under an agricultural perspective, and a great emphasis on USLE soil erosion prediction model.

The formation of subject literature collection for bibliometric analysis: the case of the topic of Bradford's Law of Scattering

Wilson, Concepci??n Shimizu, School of Information, Library & Archive Studies, UNSW January 1995 (has links)
This study develops a general procedure for forming a well-defined collection of documents on a research topic, which is suitable for bibliometric analysis. The procedure is applied to one research topic in Library and Information Science, Bradford's Law of Scattering. An analysis is made of the underlying concepts, viz. 'document', 'selection', 'collection comprehensiveness', 'topic', 'research topic', and 'on' and 'relevant to' a research topic. An important distinction is drawn between graphical and semantic attributes of documents, and between their modes of analysis. The central problem of the study is that, while 'topic' is a problematic semantic attribute of documents, a well-defined collection of documents requires a selection criterion formulated on unproblematic graphical attributes. The solution proposed is to let specialist A&I Services legitimate a research topic and to provide a sample of its documents; then to extract a diagnostic graphical pattern from the sample, and from this construct a criterion which can be mechanically applied to all documents. Modifications introduced into the general procedure include the iterative development of the criterion from the growing collection, and allowing a content analysis of documents to suggest diagnostic patterns in the text. The graphical selection criterion developed for the specific collection was composed of six alternative pairs of word-stems separated by at most two words in the body of the text of documents. It has an estimated precision of 96% against the background literature and retrieves 90% of all known documents which might be judged to be on the topic. The final collection consists of 1187 analytical-level and scholarly documents written in 19 languages; it is well-defined, accords with convention, and is judged to be near completion for documents more strongly on and influential in the topic. Inadequacies in the procedure and in the collection formed were examined and improvements have been suggested. For example, the mixing of semantic and graphical methods in the pattern extraction process is clarified, recall can be enhanced by the addition of several small sub-collections, and measures of topic aboutness and topic influence were installed in the collection.

A Bibliometric Analysis of the Use of Technical Report Literature: Pre- and Post- Internet Distribution

Manley, Cynthia Gayle 01 May 2011 (has links)
Technological advances have changed the way information is accessed, retrieved, and utilized. The Internet has contributed to greater accessibility of scientific and technical information (STI), particularly in the arena of technical report literature. Technical reports, which communicate the results of research and development activities, are significant indicators of scientific trends because they often represent public and governmental interest in emerging fields of study. Prior to the widespread use of the Internet, technical reports were disseminated in print format with the use of specific, and often limited, distribution lists. However, as technical report literature found a home on the Internet, it became more accessible to the public as a discoverable resource on par with journal literature. This study investigates the transition from the traditional paper distribution to the digital distribution of technical reports beginning in the mid-1990s. Reports produced and distributed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) are examined to determine trends over time and across disciplines. The scientific disciplines of chemistry and engineering are contrasted with respect to citation patterns. A quantitative analysis is used to determine whether citation patterns of technical report literature reflect the transition from print access to digital access. Publication and citation information was collected in 2009 from ISI’s Web of Science product as well as from databases maintained by the Department of Energy’s Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI).

Knowledge Mobilization at the World Bank: A Bibliometric Analysis of World Bank Publications on Public-private Partnerships in Education

Read, Robyn 29 November 2011 (has links)
This study examines the ways that knowledge on public-private partnerships in education (PPPE) spreads due to the knowledge mobilization (efforts to incorporate research into policy and practice in education) work of World Bank Education Sector. Specifically, this study looks at the role of the World Bank in research mediation between research producing contexts and research using contexts. Using bibliometric analysis this study a) traces the citations in five World Bank publications on PPPE in order to clarify the origins of the evidence used; and b) maps the spread of this research through its online take-up by other organizations. This study provides baseline data about the knowledge mobilization efforts of the World Bank around PPPE, and illuminates the broader discussion in the literature on who is included (and excluded) from this research enterprise.

Global Research Trends of Long Term Care¡GA Bibliometric Study

Phay, Kee-Wong 25 August 2011 (has links)
An effective bibliometric analysis based on Science Citation Index (SCI) and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) published by the Institute of Scientific Information (ISI) was carried out to identify the long-term care research between 1991 and 2008. The objective was to conduct a quantitative and qualitative analysis for global trends of long-term care related research. The characteristics related to publications were analyzed. Apparently more and more authors, institutes, and countries engaged in the research over the 18 years. The USA produced the most single country articles and international collaborative articles, followed by Canada and UK. Synthetically analyzing the distribution of paper title, author keyword and keyword plus, it could be concluded that application of long-term care mainly focused on five branches. There are gerontology, psychiatry, health care science, nursing and epidemiology.
