The Inflence of Motivation in Participating Clinical Trial: Evidence from Healthy Volunteers

Li, Yu-Rong 18 July 2011 (has links)
Due to the rapidly development in biomedical industry and the progressive needs in clinical trial, the clinical trial has remarkably increased during the past years. The composition of volunteers is not only included patients but also healthy subjects, which catered for the differences of research design of the trial. Thus, many ethical issues related to clinical trials have gained attention, particularly, the motivations of participating in clinical trials from healthy volunteers are crucial issue. The intention of the study is not only to understand the mainly motivation, perception and personality trait of healthy volunteers, but also to discuss the influence of demographic variables and personality trait on the motivation of volunteers participating clinical trials in Taiwan. This study was a cross-sectional survey research. The study sample included 196 healthy volunteers from three different biomedical clinical trial companies. The self-administered questionnaire contained 15 questions. The internal consistency reliability (£\) for the BFI scale was .789. One-way ANOVA and post-hoc analysis were used to examine the differences of the motivation in different demographic variables. In addition, hierarchical regression analysis was employed to investigate the determinants of different motivation. The results of the study showed most of the healthy volunteers were single male undergraduate students with age 20-24. The types of personality, openness¡Bextraversion and agreeableness, tended to be high tendentiousness. On the other hands, the subjects in neuroticism personality tended to be low tendentiousness. Moreover, the results showed the main motivation of the healthy volunteers is financial rewards, followed by free physical examination and the last is invitation by friends, respectively. According to the results of the study, the relatedness between the motivation of participating clinical trials and different variables showed that the elder subjects considered the free physical examination and promoting scientific and medical development as the mainly motivation, and showed less concern of companion invitation. Also, the subjects with higher education concerned the invitation by companion as less priority. Comparing with students, the waged volunteers showed less consideration of promoting scientific and medical development as motivation. Moreover, the healthy volunteer with average income between 10,000 to 19,999 NT considered mostly free physical examination, promotion of scientific and medical development and curiosity as the main motivation for the trial. The more involved in clinical trial the more consideration of other motivation and less concern of the invitation by companion. Furthermore, the subjects with more agreeableness personality trait tend to be more consideration of promoting scientific and medical development as their mainly motivation. In conclusion, the financial rewards is the priority consideration and shows remarkable influence to the motivation for the healthy volunteers, compared with the risk assessment and the consideration of personal health conditions. Thus, the clinical trials companies should balance between the rewards and health conditions. Particularly, the understandable and fully explanation as well informed consent before any trial implementation are necessary. Moreover, the researcher should be carefully concern about the health condition enrolling volunteers, in order to prevent the volunteer form harm.

Currently this is the theory that provides a better understanding of personality. The Big Five inventory- 10 (BFI-10) is a scale composed of 10 items that assesses five dimensions of personality, with two items for each factor: Extroversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism and Openness. The purpose of this study due to the need for a brief instrument based on Big Five Theory for use in research in Brazil. Were interviewed 1158 people, being the majority female (58%) aged between 14 and 35 years. In the original form of the instrument was added one item in each factor to select later the 10 items with better psychometric qualities. There was evidence of construct validity and the rates of internal consistence were acceptable. At the end of the analysis it was identified that Neuroticism was the factor that demonstrated greater legitimacy, whereas Agreeableness was the less representative. Associations were observed among factors and the sociodemographic variables: gender, age and scholarity. It has been concluded that the adapted BFI-10 can be used when the time available is very limited. Considering the limitations of a so brief scale, the results should be interpreted cautiously. Further studies should be made to complement the psychometric characteristics of the scale / Recentemente a teoria Big Five tem servido de base para grande parte do trabalho de avaliação da personalidade.

Personlighet, val av utbildning och prestation : en studie av svenska studenter inom humaniora och ekonomi / Personality, choice of college major and performance : a study on Swedish students in humanities and economics

Badin, Iulia January 2016 (has links)
Within the framework of the Big Five factor model, the aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between personality and choice of college major as well as academic performance in a Swedish sample. A secondary aim was to test whether Hollands (1997) vocational choice theory, which was developed for almost 20 years ago in the United States, could be meaningful for Sweden in present-days. A total of 177 students enrolled in college majors within Humanities (N = 121) and Economics (N = 56) from several Swedish universities used a web-based survey to complete the IPIP-NEO-PI inventory (Goldberg, 1999) and to answer questions about their studies, their academic performance and vocational interests according to the RIASEC model (Holland, 1997). Multivariate covariance analyses showed that there were personality differences between humanities students and economics students that seem to pre-exist rather than to be a consequence of a socialization process. Correlation analyses, separate for the two groups, showed different associations of personality factors with performance across groups. Multiple linear regression analyses showed that the personality factors that predict performance were different when only data from humanities students was analysed and when data from the whole sample was analysed which can be interpreted as if the personality factors that predict performance are different across majors. Finally, results showed that there are differences between educational environments of humanities and economics according to the RIASC model. For humanities students, but nor for economics students, the results also showed that “fit” between the individuals profiles and the profile of the environment leads to higher performance. These results are discussed in relation to previous research in the field. From a wider perspective the implications for practice of these results are discussed as well as insights about aspects needed to be considered in future research.

理財專員之人格特質與工作績效關聯性之研究─以國內F銀行為例 / A Study on the Relationship between Personality Traits of Financial Advisors and Job Performance - the Case of Domestic F Bank

Unknown Date (has links)
In more recent years, changes in the financial environment are significant. Banks have to increase the profits from the non-interest income and develop the business not entailing Regulatory Capital. So the fee incomes from the Wealth Management Section become more important for banks. The financial advisor is the key factor of the Wealth Management Section. The selection of financial advisors is very important for the banks. The study is based on the view of the personality theory of Big-Five factor. The purpose of this study is to find the relationship between the personality traits of financial advisors and the job performance. The study involved a survey, comprised of three sets of questionnaires concerning demographics, Big-five personality and job performance. 183 financial advisors in the domestic F Bank participated in this study. The quantitative analysis of the questionnaires was conducted through descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation and regression analysis were used to indicate the direction and relationship between personality and job performance. The result of this study was showed as following: 1. Four of Big-Five factors including “Extraversion”, “Openness to Experience”, “Agreebleness” and “Conscientiousness” are positively correlated with job performance. 2. The factor “Agreebleness” has a positive effect on “task performance” and “contextual performance”. 3. The factor “Conscientiousness” has a positive effect on “task performance”, “contextual performance” and “fee income”. The factor “Conscientiousness” has the greatest effect on job performance among the Big-Five factors. 4. The factor “Openness to Experience” has a positive effect on “task performance”, “contextual performance” and “fee income”. 5. The factor “Extraversion” has a positive effect on “contextual performance”. Based on the results, the researcher recommends that F Bank select employees with personality trait “Conscientiousness” and “Conscientiousness” as the financial advisors. The researcher expects the financial advisors with personality trait “Conscientiousness” have better job performance.
