"Kult klasiků" v československém filmu v období 1948-1989 / "The Cult of Classics" in the Czechoslovak Film in the Period 1948-1989

HLAVÁČKOVÁ, Terezie January 2018 (has links)
In connection with the new direction of cultural policy in Czechoslovakia, the Ministry of Education, led by Zdeněk Nejedlý, began to support the promotion of so-called classics in all spheres of art production in the so-called period of the Third Republic. In the early 1950s, numerous personalities were defined in individual disciplines, whose work met the ideas of socialist realism, and thus it was desirable to promote them. Part of this targeted propaganda was the filming of biographical films, or eventually the conversion of their work into a film screen. Despite the liberalization of ideological pressures in the 1960s, the genre of the biography remained popular, but the art component was considerably strengthened at the expense of the educational one. The aim of this diploma thesis is to reveal a circle of personalities whose life or work has been the subject of film adaptations, and based on several selected examples (to be refined during the work) to reconstruct the film image of their life and its transformation in the period under review.

Melanie Klein: a psychobiographical study

Espinosa, Marianna J January 2008 (has links)
The objective of psychobiography is a better understanding of individuals, and psychobiographical case studies add meaning and value to research (Runyan, 1988a). Melanie Klein was chosen for this study through a purposive sampling method due to her contributions to the discipline of psychology, which placed her in a distinguished position regarding twentieth century psychoanalysis. Furthermore, no other psychobiography has been written on Klein. The primary aim of this study was to present the reader with a basic description of her life, and a secondary aim was to accomplish an in-depth description of Klein within her social and historical context. Due to these aims and the nature of psychobiography, it may be said that this is a qualitative study based on a single case method, described as explorative and descriptive. Data was analysed according to Huberman and Miles’ (1994) approach which consists of data reduction, display and verification. This study was guided by Levinson’s (1996) theory of Adult Development in Women. The theory allowed for an in-depth description of Klein’s experiences and social and historical contexts by merely illuminating her life. Finally, it may be said that this study contributed to the limited amount of psychobiographical research in South Africa.

Le lycée français de Rio de Janeiro : histoire d’un projet interculturel / The lyceum franco-brazilian of Rio de Janeiro : history of an intercultural project

Grillo Balassiano, Ana Luiza 22 January 2014 (has links)
This research examines the socio-historical process of the Lyceum, analyzing how intercultural practices were experienced there. Therefore, this study focuses on one question: How the "confrontation - contact" with each other has been tested in the school’s environment? This question about intercultural experiences defines "confrontation - contact" with the other. French High School, today, Colégio Franco-Brasileiro, has, also seen in his name, a mixed identity. The name here has a very strong identity meaning. "Franco" (as it’s called) was in a different time, if we compare with others schools spaces, because “Franco” used to form individuals in two cultures (the brazilian culture and the French culture). This analysis was done from the biographical material constructed by non-structured interviews with old students of the school. Each of themgives form to his school experiences, his "life-world" and especially his "world school", which means that these acts biographical shows how practices intercultural were experienced in Lyceum.

Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill: a psychobiographical study

Moolman, Bilué Anton January 2012 (has links)
Psychobiography is a qualitative approach to exploring and understanding the life story of an individual through the lens of psychological theory. The application of theory is typically conducted on the finished lives of well-known or enigmatic people. This study explores and describes the psychological development across the lifespan of Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill, by applying the Individual Psychology of Alfred Adler. Winston Churchill voted the greatest Briton of the twentieth century, was an author, painter, adventure, soldier, politician and Prime Minister that led the United Kingdom during World War Two. Extensive data has been examined in this work to ensure an accurate description of Winston Churchill‘s life. Alexander‘s model of identifying salient themes was used to analyse the data within a conceptual framework derived from the theory. Churchill‘s difficult childhood motivated him to succeed, his passion for the nation of Britain and his dislike of the Nazi regime meant that Churchill was always abreast with current affairs, anticipating every possible scenario of attack. When the time came to fight the Nazi‘s Churchill was ready to die for his country. The research findings highlight Churchill‘s ability to rise above his childhood stigmas and surpass all expectations and so cementing his name into the history of a country he loved and a democratic world he hoped for. Alfred Adler‘s Individual Psychology proposes that an individual‘s potential weaknesses can be used as a means to strive and achieve greatness within their sphere of influence.

Ernesto "Che" Guevara : a psychobiographical study

Kolesky, Candice January 2010 (has links)
Psychobiography is a qualitative approach to exploring and understanding the life story of an individual through the lens of psychological theory. The application of theory is typically done on the finished lives of well-known or enigmatic people. This study explores and describes the psychological development across the lifespan of Ernesto “Che” Guevara, by applying the Individual Psychology of Alfred Adler. Che Guevara was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, physician, author, guerrilla leader, and major figure of the Cuban Revolution. Since his death, his image has become a symbol for revolution within popular culture. Extensive data has been examined in this work to ensure an accurate description of Guevara’s life. Alexander’s model of identifying salient themes was used to analyze the data within a conceptual framework derived from the theory. Guevara was fiercely loyal to his cause, at the expense of the lives of many Cuban citizens as well as his own family, whom he spent little time with. He justified this with his firmly held belief that the end justified the means and that he was always fighting for the greater good. He quite literally dedicated his life to his cause, which is the reason that he has become a modern day symbol for revolution. It is however unfortunate that this came at such a great personal expense.

The cosmopolitan play : a biographical network approach

Armitage, Neil January 2012 (has links)
The 'Cosmopolitan Play' is used as a metaphor to reflect the multiple contexts and ways that people act and play with the 'other' in the contemporary global era. The study expands the cosmopolitan perspective by questioning a widely held assumption in much of the existing literature that cosmopolitanism and a 'cosmopolitan stance' (Hannerz 1990) - an openness and willingness to engage with the 'other' - is associated with mobile people. This assumption has led to three dimensions being mainly ignored in the literature, these are: 1) a 'middle group' of movers that are neither mobile elites nor displaced people, 2) the significance of non-movers, and 3) temporality. Rather than defining the cosmopolitan stance as an elite identity, in this study it is seen as the reflexive contestation of essentialised identities formed around social boundaries such as those based on nationality, social class, ethnicity, religion and so forth (Jones 2007). Hence, the overarching research question posed is how may someone evolve a cosmopolitan stance? To answer this, a biographical network approach was developed to analyse in tandem the life stories and ego-networks of 28 non-elite young (aged 23-35) British and Spanish movers and non-movers living in Madrid and Manchester in terms of their cosmopolitan conviviality - the extent and quality of personal relationships initiated and maintained through face-to-face social interaction with others that are objectively different. The approach follows three axes of investigation: convivial horizons (x), people's social interactions across national boundaries; convivial depths (y), people's social interactions across social class, ethnic, religious and other social boundaries, within and across national boundaries; and convivial paths (z), the wider biographical contexts of people's interactions. The study's findings lend support to the critique of equating mobility with cosmopolitanism (Glick Schiller et al. 2011), yet they show that mobility inside and outside national boundaries together with subsequent settlement is influential for whether people not only transcend social boundaries, but also contest them. Additionally, while nationality, class, gender and so forth shape the parameters of people's cosmopolitan conviviality and the articulation thereof, they were not seen as decisive in the openness and willingness of people to engage with the 'other'. Instead, a life path that demanded the negotiation of uncertainty and unfamiliarity from an early age due to either familial problems or difficulties of fitting in at school or the wider 'home' environment was influential in the evolution of a more cosmopolitan convivial stance. The intersection of each axis culminates in a three dimensional view which shows how someone evolves one of four broad but distinctive convivial spheres and stances: national, metropolitan, trans-national and cosmopolitan. The theoretical underpinnings of the biographical network approach enable more complexity and detail of the cosmopolitan play to be captured, which in turn enhances the cosmopolitan perspective. The study illustrates how methods can be mixed in a qualitatively driven way (Mason 2006), and demonstrates the added value of combining qualitative and quantitative methods in network analysis (Crossley 2010, Edwards 2010, Hollstein 2011).

Karodia, Telsa Ria 22 February 2012 (has links)
The objective of this study was to assess the psychometric properties of the Burnout Inventor for employees in a selected organization in South Africa. A purposive, non-probability sample was used (N = 365). The Burnout Inventory and a biographical questionnaire were administered. Exploratory factor analysis with target rotations confirmed the construct equivalence of the questionnaire. Two internally consistent factors, namely, Organisation and Work-context were extracted. AFRIKAANS : Die doelstelling van hierdie studie was om die psigometriese eienskappe van die Burnout Inventory vir werknemers in n geselekteerde organisasie in Suid- Afrika te bepaal. ‘n Doelgerigte nie-waarskynlikheidsteekproef is gebruik (N = 365). Copyright 2007, University of Pretoria. All rights reserved. The copyright in this work vests in the University of Pretoria.
