Reckziegel, Ana Cecilia de Carvalho January 2004 (has links)
This work aims to understand the meaning attributed, by young residents of the periphery of Porto Alegre, to the practice of street dance as a component element of the Hip-Hop. Aiming to understand the practice of dance in a specific cultural universe, and giving preference to its micro-social aspects, the study has as methodological approach the ethnographical investigation, and as main instruments of data gathering, the participative observation and the semi-structured interview. The final consideration is made from two main perspectives: street dance as learning and street dance as leisure. The practice of dance, along with the ideological principles of the Hip-Hop culture, symbolized by the attitude, makes possible to the youth the construction of a project that has as objective the building of a worthy life for oneself, and the redeeming of those who live marginally.

Sentidos do corpo e das práticas corporais nas trajetórias de pessoas que sofreram violência sexual na infância e na juventude / Senses of body and body practices in the lives of people who have suffered sexual violence in childhood and youth.

Polac, Alexandre Ferreira 02 March 2015 (has links)
This research presented the senses of body and body practices in the lives of women and men who have experienced sexual violence in childhood and youth. In the research, were used, as theoretical framework, post-structuralisms elements. To reach the proposed, were made 10 semi-structured interviews, in which were heard stories of people who have been through situations of violence. The analysis of speech of the interviews according Spink (2004) was used and we identified the following issues as relevant: support contexts (therapy, school, family), senses of violence, gender and sexuality, body and body practices. The results indicate that domestic violence is poorly reported and that the respondents found a little support in the family and at school. The violence is felt as something unjust and the body is perceived as dirty and covered with shame. And the body practice is associated with feelings of pleasure, self-esteem, freedom. It is suggested that bodily practices are included in care services for people who have suffered this type of violence.

Introduction: The number of individuals affected by arterial hypertension is alarming worldwide, so the search for effective strategies to reduce blood pressure values and their consequences are the subject of numerous studies. The practices of yoga have been encouraged through the National Politics of Integrative and Complementary Practices in the SUS, for being effective in the prevention and treatment of several pathologies, including arterial hypertension, with a significant hypotensive effect. It can be used with all techniques (ethical principles, asanas, pranayamas, relaxation, meditation) together in the same session or in isolation, as many studies investigating only relaxation and / or pranayamas. Objectives: a) Raise studies that address the effects of respiratory control exercises (pranayamas) on blood pressure; b) To verify the effect of intervention with pranayamas with slow rhythm in the hypertensive blood pressure, under treatment in Basic Health Unit (UBS). Methods: Two main studies were conducted. a) A systematic review of clinical trials that sought to verify the effects of pranayamas on blood pressure. We searched three electronic databases PubMed / Medline, Scopus and Bireme, the bias analysis was evaluated by the PEDro scale. b) A randomized controlled trial, composed of two groups (yoga - GI and exercise control active - GCA). The program consisted of 16 sessions lasting 30 minutes and the analyzes were composed of blood pressure measurements at the beginning and end of the program. Results: a) All studies in which the participants were hypertensive had a reduction in systolic blood pressure (SBP), both in the studies that evaluated the acute effect and in those that evaluated the chronic effect; in diastolic blood pressure (DBP) only three studies showed significant reduction (two investigating chronic effect); already the heart rate presented decrease in seven studies (4 investigating acute effect). b) Groups showed a significant reduction in SBP at moments, but no difference was found between groups; the patients were mostly white women with BMI above the recommended value and economic class B and C; presented levels of physical activity within the recommendations (> 150min / week). Conclusion: a) The systematic review has provided indications that the use of slow pranayamas and / or alternate nostrils may be an effective alternative for reducing blood pressure in normotensive and hypertensive patients. However, the high number of bias in the iserid studies limits these results. Therefore, new studies with greater methodological rigor in the area of yoga are needed, so that the benefits of this practice are strengthened and gain space as a complement to pharmacological treatment. b) The clinical trial indicated that 16 sessions of pranayamas present a chronic hypotensive effect for SBP in patients with arterial hypertension, but no differences were found between GI and GCA. However, the low number of patients included limits the analyzes and possible responses of blood pressure to pranayamas.

Game of Thrones, Game of Body Practices : a CCO study of authority in a traditional chinese martial arts organization

Cui-Laughton, Chendan 04 1900 (has links)
This dissertation aims to address two omissions in current literature. First, current literature has not examined how authority is communicatively accomplished in traditional Chinese martial arts organizations (TCMAOs), which are one special kind of secular religious organization. Second, in the communicative constitution of organizations (CCO) literature, it is unclear what is the role of body practices in the communicative accomplishment of authority. Grounded in the CCO tradition, this dissertation seeks inspirations from Xiaotong Fei’s chaxugeju (or differential mode of association) theory and develops the concept of differential authority, which refers to the phenomenon that authority can be shared and extended to other actors and territories through meaningful associations established in and through communication. Together, body practices and differential authority constitute this dissertation’s conceptual framework to investigate how body practices contribute to the communicative accomplishment of authority in a TCMAO. To answer my research question, this dissertation takes an at-home ethnographic approach to study a TCMAO located in Zhengzhou (China). I developed an organic iterative approach to analyze data collected through participant observation, conducting interviews, and writing a reflective journal. My analysis summarizes five body practices in a TCMAO: embodied instruction, photo-posing, body ritual, staged performance, and contesting. Each body practice plays unique roles in helping individuals and organizations establish meaningful associations with authoritative figures, and thus claim differential authority. They also intermingle and co-act with one another in the communicative accomplishment of authority in a TCMAO. Through embodied instruction, martial artists show themselves as the legitimate vectors of a particular martial art, thus proving their authentic associations between the inheritors and the art. People use photo-posing to develop their positive associations with authoritative figures (human or non-human) to claim the differential authority of individuals and organizations; and they avoid any form of negative associations that might hurt their authority. Through the mutually beneficial mechanism of borrowing light and adding glory, the master and disciples use photos as differential authoring devices of their associations to establish their authority respectively through the master-disciple association. Body rituals establish and reaffirm disciples’ associations with ancestors, masters, and famous lineages. They are critical for accomplishing the differential authority of these disciples and the organizations they represent. Staged performance establishes authority by associating martial artists with important stages invested with prestige and influence. Intraorganizational staged performance differentiates certain organizational members from others by publicly displaying their status within the organization, thus helping the favored members to accomplish authority. Contesting establishes martial artists’ authority by differentiating them and placing them in different positions in the martial arts community hierarchy. This dissertation contributes to the CCO literature by advancing research on the role of body practices in accomplishing authority from a communicative point of view. Besides forwarding ongoing research on the material dimension of communication, it also extends our understanding of relational authority by integrating an indigenous theory of association from China. Furthermore, it expands our understanding of TCMAOs and secular religious organizations at unfamiliar settings.
