Foram utilizados animais da raça Nelore, mestiços u Aberdeen X Nelore e mestiços u Simental X Nelore, abatidos com idade entre 12 e 15 meses conforme estabelecido pelo modelo biológico superprecoce. O experimento foi conduzido em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado. O objetivo do presente estudo foi análise de componentes da maciez de novilhos superprecoces de grupos genéticos distintos. Não foi verificada diferença estatística (p>0,01) entre os grupos genéticos para a força de cisalhamento, Índice de Fragmentação Miofibrilar (MFI) e frações do colágeno, entretanto houve influência (p<0,01) do período postmortem, exceto para o colágeno. A carne de animais abatidos entre 12 e 15 meses de idade apresenta atributos de qualidade independente do grupo genético utilizado e com sete dias de maturação todos os animais apresentaram carne com grau de maciez desejável. / Abstract: The experiment was accomplished in the Section of Feedlot of cattle of Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia and in the Laboratório de Bioquímica de Proteínas do Instituito de Biociências. Nelore breed, u Aberdeen X Nelore crossbreed and u Simental X Nelore crossbreed were used and slaughtered accordingly with the brazilian system called "superprecoce". The experiment was accomplished in a completely randomized design. The objective of the present study was the evaluation of tenderness components of "superprecoce" of different genetic groups. There was no statistics difference (p>0,01) between genetic groups for the shear force values, Myofibrillar Fragmentation Index (MFI) and collagen, however there was influence (p<0,01) of the ageing, except for the collagen. The meat of animals slaughtered between 12 and 15 months of age showed attributes of quality independent of the genetic group and with seven days of ageing all animals had a desirable tenderness. / Mestre

Geomorphological and paleoseismic studies provide insight into the fault geometry and kinematics of a series of dextral northeast striking faults, including the Porters Pass, Hawdon, Bullock Hill, and Esk faults, in the South Island of New Zealand. These faults show post-glacial offsets that are significantly larger than predicted from co-seismic displacement - surface rupture length regressions derived from empirical relationships. Geomorphological mapping reveals slip rates as high as 9 mm/year for the Hawdon fault and Bullock Hill fault over an expected fault length of c. 140 km. Surface expressions of some parts of the studied faults are obscured by glacial gravels, indicating that blind faults are present in parts of the Sourthern Alps and may be the source for a component of a reported slip deficit in North Canterbury. Concluding from comparing scaling relationship results for the individual faults I hypothesize that the Porters Pass, Hawdon, Bullock Hill and Esk faults are segments of an incipient fault system that stretches from the western tip of the Porters Pass fault to the Hope fault, east of Hanmer Springs. Considering the location, similar strike and dextral deformation mode, I suggest that this 140 km long dextral strike-slip fault system marks the southernmost extension of the Marlborough Fault System resulting from the ongoing southward propagation of the Pacific-Australian plate boundary in New Zealand's South Island.

The purpose of this study was to write a biography of Thomas Bullock and discover his possible contributions to religious and profane history.

Thomas Bullock was intimately associated with leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for more than twenty-five years. He served twenty-one years in the Church Historian's office and also clerked in many city, county, and territorial positions, acting as scribe, clerk, and personal secretary to Joseph Smith Jr., Brigham Young, Willard Richards, and the Twelve Apostles. During this time he was privy to important events of late Nauvoo and early Utah Mormon history. His was a critical role in not only recording the history, but also in the gathering and preservation of historical documents. As a clerk Bullock frequently referred to himself as a man who was "doing my duty," and he surely fulfilled in his life the revelatory injunction: "It is the duty of the Lord's clerk, whom he has appointed, to keep a history, and a general record of all things that transpire in Zion." This essay will focus on how well Thomas Bullock fulfilled the duties he was given, particularly as they relate to his contributions to Mormon historiography.
