Fernández Vargas, Néstor 04 April 2018 (has links)
This thesis is devoted to the study of moduli spaces of vector bundles over a smooth algebraic curve over field of complex numbers. The text consist of two main parts : In the first part, I investigate the geometry related to the classifications of rank 2 quasi-parabolic vector bundles over a 2-pointed elliptic curves, modulo isomorphism. The notions of indecomposability, simplicity and stability give rise to the corresponding moduli spaces classifying these objects. The projective structure of these spaces is explicitely described, and we prove a Torelli theorem that allow us to recover the 2-pointed elliptic curve. I also explore the relation with the moduli space of quasi-parabolic vector bundles over a 5-pointed rational curve, appearing naturally as a double cover of the moduli space of quasi-parabolic vector bundles over the 2-pointed elliptic curve. Finally, we show explicitely the modularity of the automorphisms of this moduli space. In the second part, I study the moduli space of semistable rank 2 vector bundles with trivial determinant over a hyperelliptic curve C. More precisely, I am interested in the natural map induced by the determinant line bundle, generator of the Picard group of this moduli space. This map is identified with the theta map, which is of degree 2 in our case. We define a fibration from this moduli space to a projective space whose generic fiber is birational to the moduli space of 2g-pointed rational curves, and we describe the restriction of the map theta to the fibers of this fibration. We show that this restriction is, up to a birational map, an osculating projection centered on a point. By using a description due to Kumar, we show that the restriction of the map theta to this fibration ramifies over the Kummer variety of a certain hyperelliptic curve of genus g - 1.

Thiago de Melo 08 April 2005 (has links)
The aim of this work is enumerate the plane bundles over some surfaces, for example the sphere and the g-torus. Among other tools we used cohomology of the surfaces with local coefficients and also the method developed by Larmore to count homotopy classes of lifting of functions.

Connery-Grigg, Dustin 08 1900 (has links)
This thesis presents a reasonably complete account of the elements theory of symplectic and Hamiltonian fibrations. We assume a familiarity and comfort with the basic notions of differential geometry and algebraic topology but little else. Proceeding from this, the first chapter develops the necessary notions from the theory of fiber bundles and G-fiber bundles, while the second chapter develops all the notions and theorems required to understand the later theory of symplectic fibrations. Most notably the second chapter includes a detailed account of the classical relationship between the flux homomorphism and Hamiltonian isotopies. The third chapter is where we develop the theory of symplectic and locally Hamiltonian fiber bundles, and in particular give an invariant construction of the coupling form on a symplectic fibration admitting an extension class. the third chapter ends with a proof of a structure theorem characterizing those symplectic fibrations for which the structure group reduces to the Hamiltonian group. In the final chapter, we present some applications of the theory of Hamiltonian fibrations by the way of characterizing the positive part of the Hofer norm of a Hamiltonian loop as the K-area of its associated Hamiltonian bundle over the sphere, and we finish by giving a proof of the non-degeneracy of the Hofer norm for closed symplectic manifolds.

Coupled Heat Transfer Processes in Enclosed Horizontal Heat Generating Rod Bundles

Senve, Vinay January 2013 (has links) (PDF)
In a nuclear fuel cask, the heat generating spent fuel rods are packed in a housing and the resulting bundle is placed inside a cask of thick outer shell made of materials like lead or concrete. The cask presents a wide variation in geometrical dimensions ranging from the diameter of the rods to the diameter of the cask. To make the problem tractable, first the heat generating rod bundle alone is considered for analysis and the effective thermal conductance of the bundle is correlated in terms of the relevant parameters. In the second part, the bundle is represented as a solid of equivalent thermal conductance and the attention is focused on the modelling of the cask. The first part, dealing with the effective thermal conductance is solved using Fluent software, considering coupled conduction, natural convection and surface radiation in the heat generating rod bundle encased in a hexagonal sheath. Helium, argon, air and nitrogen are considered as working media inside the bundle. A correlation is obtained for the critical Rayleigh number which signifies the onset of natural convection. A correlation is also developed for the effective thermal conductance of the bundle, considering all the modes of transport, in terms of the maximum temperature in the rod bundle, pitch-to-diameter ratio, bundle dimension (or number of rods), heat generation rate and the sheath temperature. The correlation covers pitch-to-diameter ratios in the range 1.1-2, number of rods ranging from 19 to 217 and the heat generation rates encountered in practical applications. The second part deals with the heat transfer modeling of the cask with the bundle represented as a solid of effective (or equivalent) thermal conductance. The mathematical model describes two-dimensional conjugate natural convection and its interaction with surface radiation in the cask. Both Boussinesq and non-Boussinesq formulations have been considered for convection. Numerical solutions are obtained on a staggered mesh with a pressure correction method using a custom-made Fortran code. The surface radiation is coupled to the conduction and convection at the solid-fluid interfaces. Steady-state results are obtained using time-marching. Results for various quantities of interest, namely, the flow and temperature distributions, Nusselt numbers, and interface temperatures, are presented. The Grashof number based on the volumetric heat generation and gap width is varied from 105 to 5 ×109. The emissivities of the interfaces are varied from 0.2-0.8 for the radiative calculations. The solid-to-fluid thermal conductivity ratio for the inner cylinder is varied in the range 5-20 in the parametric studies. Simulations are also performed with thermal conductivity calculated in an iterative manner from bundle parameters. The dimensionless outer wall conductivity ratio is chosen to correspond to cask walls made of lead or concrete. The dimensionless thickness (with respect to gap width) of the outer shell is in the range of 0.0825-1, while the inner cylinder dimensionless radius is 0.2. Air is the working medium in the cask for which the Prandtl number is 0.71. Correlations are obtained for the average temperatures and Nusselt numbers at the inner interface in terms of the parameters. The radiation heat transfer is found to contribute significantly to the heat dissipation.

For to study such properties we used the ab initio method employing density functional theory in the approach of the generalized gradient approximation for the exchange and correlation terms. All the simulations were performed using the SIESTA code. In the analysis of all results we observed that the traverse circular section of the nanotubos suffers a structural modification when the applied pressure around 1 GPa both system. Another structural change observed, both systems, appears around 10 GPa. The analysis the electronic properties was accomplished through the bands structure, where it was observed that the two systems considered are semiconductors, but with reduction in the energy gap. The analysis of the population of Mülliken, in the case of the doped system with H2SO4 molecule, shows that the nanotubes transfer charge to H2SO4 molecule, and the transference increases with pressure.

To study such properties, we used the ab initio method employing density functional theory in the approach of the generalized gradient approximation. All the simulations were performed using of the siesta code. The obtained results showed that the circular cross section of each one of the studied bundles undergoes a deformation (elliptic) when applied pressure reaches the value of P > 1,0 GPa for the bundle (16,0), P > 2,0 GPa for the bundle (12,0) and for values greater then 6,5 GPa for the bundle (8,0). Vector Bundles Over Hypersurfaces Of Projective Varieties

Tripathi, Amit 07 1900 (has links) (PDF)
In this thesis we study some questions related to vector bundles over hypersurfaces. More precisely, for hypersurfaces of dimension ≥ 2, we study the extension problem of vector bundles. We find some cohomological conditions under which a vector bundle over an ample divisor of non-singular projective variety, extends as a vector bundle to an open set containing that ample divisor. Our method is to follow the general Groethendieck-Lefschetz theory by showing that a vector bundle extension exists over various thickenings of the ample divisor. For vector bundles of rank > 1, we find two separate cohomological conditions on vector bundles which shows the extension to an open set containing the ample divisor. For the case of line bundles, our method unifies and recovers the generalized Noether-Lefschetz theorems by Joshi and Ravindra-Srinivas. In the last part of the thesis, we make a specific study of vector bundles over elliptic curve.
