Computer Aided Design Tool for Electric, Hybrid Electric and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles

Eskandari Halvaii, Ali 2011 May 1900 (has links)
This research is focused on designing a new generation of CAD tools that could help a ”hybrid vehicle” designer with the design process to come up with better vehicle configurations. The conventional design process for any type of hybrid-electric vehicle would start from the vehicle performance criteria and continue by applying them to the physical models of different components of the vehicle. The final result would be strict and precise characteristics of all components in the vehicle; this scenario gives only one option for the desired vehicle. A new perspective is introduced in developing a new methodology in the art of design. This new method enables the designer to see a wider picture of what he is designing and have access to all his options and capabilities. The method is designed to help the designer ask the right questions about his design options, intelligently guide him through the design process by squeezing the space of solutions and take him to the final designed product. The new methodology is implemented in this research with the following capabilities: 1. The proposed tool allows the designer to choose any arbitrary set of variable to be known and leave the rest as the ones to be solved for; either they are vehicle component characteristic variables or performance measures. This provides a great amount of flexibility and success in designing a vehicle from any available information about it. 2. Instead of starting from single values, the new tool can work with a range of possible values for the known variables and suggest range of feasible values for the unknown variables. This provides the capability of refining the design even further and performing sensitivity analysis. 3. The proposed tool is a package that offers both design and simulation capabilities. It includes analytical performance simulation as well as simulation with arbitrary drive cycles and engine controllers. 4. Capability of 1D, 2D and 3D representation of any arbitrary set of design variables in the solution space. The idea is implemented in a pilot version software package for vehicle design.

IT application for Researcher of Engineering Design

Lin, Rong-Fa 27 January 2003 (has links)
¡uAbstract¡v Information technology has been evolving continuously. No matter software or hardware, the innovative products are amazing. In recent years, the developing trends of computer aided design (CAD) system have been shifted from the simple 2-dimension plan drafting system to the 3-dimension model, which combines management, engineering, design, construction and information, and has become the goal that engineering firms pursuit. However, the information technology of engineering design today does not meet the need of engineering firms. Each firm has to analyze its need completely and thoroughly, train engineering information researchers actively, and hope that information technology can fully support its operations. Only by this way, the firm could have CAD and the information technology of engineering design that meet its demand and thus leads to a more sound and competitive mechanism. This study tries to examine on-the-job trainings discussed in the literature systemically and explore the engineering design information systems that have been completed by engineering consulting firms. Thus, we can understand every detail of work done by the researchers of engineering design information systems. Also, we interviewed those people deeply. The purpose of this study is to discuss how to integrate engineering designers and information technology and how an engineering designer is trained to be an engineering design researcher, after he or she implements an engineering design project. Therefore, he or she would become a researcher who can combine engineering design and information technology and then apply them wholly.

Tool path generation and 3D tolerance analysis for free-form surfaces

Choi, Young Keun 29 August 2005 (has links)
This dissertation focuses on developing algorithms that generate tool paths for free-form surfaces based on accuracy of desired manufactured part. A manufacturing part is represented by mathematical curves and surfaces. Using the mathematical representation of the manufacturing part, we generate reliable and near optimal tool paths as well as cutter location (CL) data file for postprocessing. This algorithm includes two components. First is the forward-step function which determines maximum distance called forward- step between two cutter contact (CC) points with given tolerance. This function is independent of the surface type and is applicable to all continuous parametric surfaces that are twice differentiable. The second component is the side-step function which determines maximum distance called side-step between two adjacent tool paths with a given scallop height. This algorithm reduces manufacturing and computing time as well as the CC points while keeping the given tolerance and scallop height in the tool paths. Several parts, for which the CC points are generated using the proposed algorithm, are machined using a three axes milling machine. As part of the validation process, the tool paths generated during machining are analyzed to compare the machined part and the desired part.

System-level power estimation framework with SystemC

Huang, Hong-Jie 29 July 2008 (has links)
Energy consumption will reduce the battery life time and increase the weight and cost of mobile devices. Low-power design methods become an important issue of SOC. Until now, there is no commercial power estimates software in system-level. Users must add power estimation to SystemC simulation environment by themselves. In this paper, we proposed a system-level power estimation framework. Users can use their custom power model, and add power estimation automatically. The proposed framework separates the SystemC simulation environment and power estimation into two independent procedures. First, we generate a data collection SystemC module automatically based on the parameters set up by users. This data collection module will automatically collect the information of parameters from SystemC simulation environment, and send these information to power estimation program. Power estimation program will calculate power consumption according to these parameters and formulas set by user. Users can add power estimation to their SystemC simulation environment quickly and use our framework to analysis the power consumption of their SOC system to find improvement issues. Users can use of our framework to compare and analyze various low-power design methods. In this paper, we applied our framework to estimate the power consumption of a 3D graphics SOC to authenticate the functional and practical ability of our framework.

Användaranpassning av instruktioner

Karlsson, Catarina January 2008 (has links)

Kolonis, E. 12 January 2006 (has links) (PDF)
