Melnikov, Anton 22 July 2016 (has links) (PDF)

Development of a manager system for calculation of machine elements for mechanical projects.

Silveira, Zilda de Castro 26 January 1999 (has links)
With a market more and more demanding in terms of efficiency and costs, one has the need to integrated all the possible information of a company, helping in this way to guarantee the quality of products and services. Moreover, nowadays there are plenty of resources to systematize the repetitive and tedious tasks, such as calculating a shaft or a pair of gears. By using them, the engineer will hold all the data he/she needs and, at the same time, will have more available time for more creative tasks. With this focus, this work presents the development of a manager system for calculations of machine elements for mechanical projects. It was devised under the context of EDM-Engineering Data Management. The system is constituted of a manager program, a database and modules of calculation of machine elements. The manager program controls the flow of calculations in the project through existence and consistency rules among the mechanical elements, and also provides the availability of the input and output data. Those rules are fired through consultations to the data stored into a relational database. As consistency rule one can cite, for example, the one stating that the lubricant used in the gears calculation be the same as that used in the calculation of the bearings. The database was designed by using a logical model based on ME-R, taylored to the assembly of a specific mechanical system : a gearbox. The calculations are performed by independent computational modules which use traditional methods of elements of machines calculation (NIEMANN, 1971).

A Collaborative Conceptual Aircraft Design Environment for the Design of Small-Scale UAVs in a Multi-University Setting

Becar, Joseph Samuel 01 May 2015 (has links)
In today's competitive global market, there is an ever-increasing demand for highly skilled engineers equipped to perform in teams dispersed over several time-zones by geography. Aerospace Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering (AerosPACE) is a senior design capstone program co-developed by academia and industry to help students develop the necessary skills to excel in the aerospace industry by challenging them to design, build, and fly an unique unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Students with little to no experience designing UAVs are put together in teams with their peers from geographically dispersed universities. This presents a significant challenge for the students in assimilating and applying aircraft design principles, using and interpreting output from analysis tools in multiple disciplines, and communicating their findings with their team members in an effective way. This thesis documents the development of a collaborative design tool for the generation and evaluation of small-scale electric-powered UAV concepts in AerosPACE. The integrated design and optimization software CCADE (Collaborative Conceptual Aircraft Design Environment) enables the immersion of team members from different universities in a software environment which shares design information and analysis results in a central database. Input files for use by open-source analysis tools are automatically generated, and output files read in and displayed in a user-friendly graphical interface. Analysis codes for initial sizing, geometry, airfoil selection, aerodynamics, propulsion, stability and control, and structures are included in the software. Optimization methods are proposed for implementation in future versions of CCADE to explore the breadth of the design space and help students understand the sensitivity of their design to certain key parameters. Testing of CCADE by students during the 2014-2015 AerosPACE course showed an increased volume of explored concepts and prompted questions from students to fill gaps in understanding of fundamental principles. Suggestions for increased student acceptance and use of the software are given. Through its unique architecture and application, CCADE aims to increase productivity and teamwork among AerosPACE participants by increasing the number of concepts which can be fully analyzed, enabling broader exploration of the feasible design space to produce unique and innovative aircraft configurations, and allowing teammates to share thoughts and learning via a shared design and analysis work-space.

The Preparation, implementation and evaluation of a course in educational media for first year education students at North Brisbane CAE

Yarrow, C. A., n/a January 1978 (has links)
This Field Study centered on the preparation, presentation and evaluation of an introductory course in educational media for first year teacher education students. The introduction provides the rationale (theoretical and practical) for such a course and outlines the nature and purpose of the project. The approach used is clarified and justified. Basically the approach is on formal, traditional lines with regard to curriculum development; but the intention is to provide the first detailed written account of such proceedings in the educational media field. Necessary terms (educational media, multi-media, older and newer media) are defined and general aims and objectives are developed taking into account the usual constraints as well as the results of classroom surveys, consultations and case studies. Appropriate reviews of literature and previous research which are relevant to the topic are dealt with under the following headings: the need for the course; the operation of equipment; selection and production of materials; application to the classroom; the place of media in the curriculum; theory, background and attitudes. The plan follows systematic lines along the model provided in Teaching and Media. A Systematic Approach, (Gerlach and Ely: 1971:7). This involves providing the detailed objectives, specifying content, assessing time and space, selecting resources, evaluating performance and finally analysing feedback. Experiments conducted fall into three categories. Firstly, students were evaluated by means of a multi-media kit of materials, ability to operate equipment and a multi-choice test. Secondly, the course itself was evaluated by means of a questionnaire given to the students. This questionnaire was subsequently rewritten to eliminate the predictability of some of the responses. The third experiment involved two classroom surveys on media use (details included in the introduction). These provided useful evidence in connection with the project. Findings and recommendations for better practice are provided under the following headings: General Objectives of Course and Content of the Course Strategy Time for Course Resources Evaluation Location of Course Staff Education.

Enhanced Design Process with CAD/CAE Integration and Smart Knowledge Capturing Method

Gujarathi, Ganesh 06 1900 (has links)
Generally, a design process involves multiple modeling and analysis interaction iterations accommodating changes and verifications. It is convenient to develop generative programs to automate some tedious and repetitive processes in order to minimize cycle times and the engineer’s routine efforts associated with various design stages. The proposed process model incorporates embedded engineering knowledge and generative Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) analysis for partial automation of product development. For improved efficiency and ease of operation, the process used a CAD/CAE integration approach with smart program development mechanism for automated modeling and analysis. A CAD/CAE integration method using a Common Data Model (CDM) containing all the required parametric information for both CAD modelling and CAE analysis is implemented. The CDM is used as a parametric data model repository and the supply source of input for those associative entities of CAD and CAE models and thus maintaining the associative dependencies among them. The pro-recorded journal file from the modeling and analysis software tool are used for rapid and easy program development of generative CAD and CAE. / Engineering Design
