[en] TWILIGHT: ALLEGORIES OF LIGHT AND SHADOWS IN PLATO AND SARAMAGO / [pt] LUSCO-FUSCO: ALEGORIAS DE LUZ E SOMBRA EM PLATÃO E SARAMAGO

LEANDRO DE BARROS GUIMARÃES 21 December 2017 (has links)
[en] Prisioners looking at projected images and calling them reality. The allegorical speech crosses the time and is a constant presence at different moments of the cultural history. This work aims to analyze the points of touch and distance between the Plato s cave and José Saramago Blindness. In this paper we analyze the possible relationship between allegories, supported by the similarities between literature, history and philosophy. I m interested in revealing how the authors appropriate the allegorical feature and nearby references to build the sense of their thoughts. The work makes use of reference proposed by Wolfgang Iser, through its pretending acts, the definitions of allegory proposed by João Adolfo Hansen and Flavius Kothe, and converses with the work of Luiz Costa Lima. In Plato, besides the allegory, it examines the question of the simulacrum proposed by Gilles Deleuze and how it is assumed the allegorical speech in a theory which aims to neutralize the words dubiety. In Saramago, analyze how the Marxist view of ideology appears in the situations narrated by the author. Finally, we show that the points set out in Blindness admits the possibility of a hermeneutic allegory of Plato s cave.

When darkness summons

Smook, Johan Fredrich 07 April 2010 (has links)
On the 8th of January 2005, two deep technical cave divers entered Bushman’s Hole, a water filled cave system in the Northern Cape in South Africa. One did not return, the other, fighting the elements for over 12 hours, narrated the event the very next day. This exploration into the narratives of a technical cave diver, is an interpretive journey into the various constructions informing the process of making sense of the death of a fellow dive partner. Exploration of the unknown within the wombs of the earth uncompromisingly challenges society’s dominant views on death and the safekeeping imperative. This exploration of the culture within death and survival in water filled cave systems is situated within the narrative ontology. Subsequently this exploration is aimed at continuously integrating the historical and cultural messages within this dangerous pastime in attempt to find meaning within the narratives of one such individual who ventured into this darkness. Ultimately this exploration is aimed at understanding narratives of sense making employed by a technical cave diver after the loss of a fellow diver amidst the passion that summoned them to explore the darkness within water filled cave systems; a pastime that has been labelled by some as the most dangerous sporting pursuit available to humankind. The journey starts with a literature exploration on death, moving through various researched understandings of the bereavement experience. From there it continues into the nature of interpretive methodology, with an in-depth focus on the historical and cultural situated nature of the narratives we employ in making sense of our world. This qualitative approach is based on the subjective experienced and interpreted meaning that I discovered while moving through the narrated text, hence this journey is also reflective of the co-construction of meaning that implicitly takes place between individuals when making sense of their own experiences. As the receiver of this narrative exploration, you too will find meaning within this journey, meaning co-constructed with the multitude of narratives and experiences that have historically and culturally entered your interpretive process. Implicit within this exploration is the unique nature of the death and bereavement experience within the specific context of deep technical cave diving. This journey places the emphasis on the uniqueness of the bereavement experience, and ultimately challenges the objective approach to dealing with bereavement as a psychologist. Läget i berggrummet : En kvalitativ undersökning av inverkande faktorer i arbetsmiljön på en byggarbetsplats i ett bergrum / The situation in the cave : A qualitative study of factors influencing the work environment at a construction site in a cave

Miladi, Lubna January 2014 (has links)
Efforts to reduce the risk of accidents at work and achieve a good work environment, is important today, not least at construction sites.   The purpose of the thesis was to investigate the work environment of a construction workplace, to study some of the factors that influence the work environment. This study has been limited to investigating working conditions at a construction workplace in a cave. Some organizational factors as safety culture, attitudes, knowledge as well as physical factors such as lighting, noise, hazardous substance and personal protective equipment has also been studied.   With qualitative interviews and observations at the workplace in the cave, an analysis of the interviews and results has been compiled.   The result of the investigation shows that there is likelihood of accidents due to falls from heights, falling stones and falling material. The workers are experiencing poor lighting and exposed to high noise levels.  Dust and diesel fumes are air contaminants the construction workplace. The workers need more understanding and knowledge about ergonomics, health risks and the effects of high noise level, poor lighting and hazardous substances. Workers negligence and economic problem can be the main obstacles to a good work environment. The safety culture within the organization, however, is generally good and there is good attitude to safety performance. There are positive attitudes toward safety’s rolls and routines, as well as good knowledge and justification are around incident reporting from both leaders and workers. The workers are motivated to protect themselves and use personal protective equipment in the workplace. But there are exceptions where some lazy workers sometimes are careless with their personal protective equipment and the reason is convenience.

Webbasiertes Höhlenkataster: Konzeption und prototypische Umsetzung eines speläologischen Informationssystems für Sachsen: Conception and prototype implementation of a speleological information system for Saxony

Urban, Michaela 25 March 2021 (has links)
Speleology is an interdisciplinary science dealing with all questions around caves. Worldwide, the exploration of subterranean cavities bring enlightening, geological or impressive, biological discoveries to light. Those numerous information is collected in regional cave registers, which save that knowledge for future generations and provide data for analysis. Also in Saxony there are many enthusiastic hobby scientists from different disciplines of speleology. Over the years they established huge collections and archives, mostly in paper form and sometimes containing redundant data. The goal of this thesis is to build a development basis of a web based cave register for Saxony, providing a central and digital database that stores all information about caves. This is a crucial improvement of safety and interpretability. As part of requirement analysis the existing data sets were evaluated, a selection of cave registers concerning other regions were studied and the specifications of a speleological information system (SIS) were collected. The database scheme, which is one of the most important components, was developed during design. Moreover, this chapter focuses on service oriented architecture (SOA), as well as user management of this web application. At the end, there is an explorative prototype that already implements the key features and serves as a starting point for the first public version of the system.
