PLANO DE REESTRUTURAÇÃO FLORESTAL E INDICADORES DE RESILIÊNCIA / RESTRUCTURING PLAN FOREST AND INDICATORS OF RESILIENCESchulte, Tiago Felipe 27 February 2015 (has links)
The present paper studied the floristic composition, structure and volume of a forest with an area of 120.2 hectares, called Forest Secret Massif, located in the village of Figueira, Segredo s city, Rio Grande do Sul, in order to create the VCA indicator (expanded margin call), RNR indicator (natural regeneration relative) and IRF indicator (forest resilience rating) to describe the representativeness of species in the forest. Also evaluated the phenotypic aspects of the trees and the related of competition at the trees in order to propose a forest restructuring plan by removing mature trees and regenerating trees in order to improve the conditions of the forest and noble species. The three indicators, on a percentage scale, presented able to describe the representation of mature species (VCA), the regenerating species (RNR) and both the forest formation (IRF), which allowed understand the current situation of each species and will understand the changes that may be manifested in the implementation of management plans, obtaining a history. The restructuring plan has listed 13,139 mother trees, 31,820 normal trees and 10,210 trees subject to deletion (group 1), 2.095 noble trees (group 2), 2776 bagueiras (group 3), 4,538 important trees for the forest ecology maintenance (group 4) ; and 24,454 individuals subject to removal for strategic reasons, except the 7,365 needed to stand on environmental issues (group 5). The regenerating forest comes up with 18,430 trees future level 1, 56 415 trees future level 2 and 17,107 trees future level 3.

Phylogeography and speciation in the genus arthroleptellaTurner, Andrew Alexander January 2009 (has links)
Philosophiae Doctor - PhD / Moss frogs are restricted to permanently moist terrestrial habitats in the south-western Cape Fold Mountains. There is a very close association between Arthroleptella distribution and Table Mountain Sandstone. Suitable habitats are generally occupied by allopatric populations of moss frogs. Comprehensive spatial sampling of moss frogs (genus Arthroleptella) in the Cape Floristic Region biodiversity hotspot yielded 192 new distribution records; 5 842 advertisement calls from 240 individual male frogs; 31 Rag-1,76 16S, 54 12S sequences and morphological measurements of 90 specimens. There are many differences in male advertisement call and genetic sequences between populations on different mountain ranges, even over small distances. A mitochondrial and nuclear gene
phylogeny of the southern African Pyxicephalidae places Natalobatrachus as the sister genus to Arthroleptella. Application of a Bayesian relaxed molecular clock model indicates that Arthroleptella arose between 20 and 39 Ma. Phylogenetic trees return two main clades within Arthroleptella: one consists of species which exhibit chirp-like calls and the second contains species with longer calls composed of a series of clicks. These two clades diverged between 19 and 22 Ma. There is a general pattern of strong phylogeographic structure with many small, isolated populations. Three species are identified within the Chirping clade and seven in the Clicking clade, including three undescribed species. This population structure is a result of the patchy distribution of suitable habitat and low vagility of the moss frogs. The distribution and speciation of moss frogs has been affected by drying and cooling climate change, changing geomorphology over the last 20 Ma and the increasing prevalence of fire over the last 5 Ma. An assessment of the threat status of each species according to IUCN criteria categorised one species as Least Concern, seven as Near Threatened, one as Vulnerable and one as Critically Endangered. The primary threats to Arthroleptella are invasive alien plants and increased fire frequencies and intensities.

Narratives of pastoral care, healing and transformation in a community of laity a practical theological narrative studyJonas, Ruth 23 October 2010 (has links)
This study’s research approach shows the foundation of an epistemology that is taken from a postmodern, postfoundationalist theology. The research method is embedded in the narrative approach as established in social constructionism. The research method is also further upheld by the Seven Movements Model of doing research, which in this research also accommodates a participatory action research methodology. This research is a study of the narratives of lay people in a local context. It shows and explores the actions of these people in a situation of care and support. Their local context expresses the journey of people who belong to the same church called the Family Trinity Church in Valhalla, Pretoria. Their backgrounds go back to areas like the Western Cape, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape and are not originally from Pretoria. Their social relationships and church affiliation are compiled from a military background. Their narratives that relate to this research originate from a journey of care and support. The narratives of my co-researchers discovered and recognized different themes as divulged from their stories in conjunction with their experiences. Some of these themes were related to the literature studies as part of the dialogues between interdisciplinary conversations in the process of research. Apart from the telling and re-telling of the stories, literature studies were used to open up a process of a deeper understanding of these narratives. Literature was used to critically discuss the narratives as to give more clarity on the actions of the co-researchers. This research shows an open process of discussions and the input of other thoughts of beliefs and reason as presented by the involvement of the scientific community. The in depth discussions helped to clarify the aim and objectives as proved by the outcomes of this research. The outcome of this research is based on the experiences and the real situation that demonstrates a contextual framework. The narratives and the unique research outcomes clearly support the fact that ordinary laypeople can lead and manage a church without the leadership of a fulltime minister. It shows the important relationship of care and support that transpired in a deepened spirituality, which brought about healing and transformation. The uniqueness of this research is based on the eagerness of people who journeyed with one another in a group and who also directed this kindness to others who did not belong to this group. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2010. / Practical Theology / unrestricted

References to Trumpet Music in the Battle Chansons of Clement JanequinSouth, James, 1957- 05 1900 (has links)
This paper is an examination of the battle chansons of Clement Janequin for references to Renaissance trumpet music. The following issues are addressed: dating the early use of the clarino register; the history and evolution of the courtly trumpet ensemble; and the transition from the shorter trumpet of the Middle Ages to the longer instrument of the middle Renaissance and Baroque eras. Because the earliest Janequin battle chanson predates all known written trumpet sources by over fifty years, musical evidence gleaned from these battle chansons can help to establish the existence and character of trumpet performance practices in the first third of the sixteenth century.
The first chapter summarizes all of the known primary sources of information on Renaissance trumpet performance, and identifies important issues worthy of further investigation. The second chapter examines trumpet music and trumpet style in the Renaissance, including trumpet ensemble performance, military trumpet calls, and the imitation of trumpet style in purely vocal music, and contains eight musical examples. The third chapter discusses the battle chansons of Janequin and their influence on other sixteenth-century works. Chapter £our analyzes the battle works of Janequin for allusions to trumpet music and includes eleven musical examples. The fifth and concluding chapter places the musical allusions into the context of trumpet history.
The musical references pointed out in these chansons provide the first musical evidence that trumpeters in the early sixteenth century were performing in the clarino register. Clear references to unequal articulation, military calls, characteristic: trumpet rhythms, and to the music of the courtly trumpet ensemble are demonstrated. The chansons also provide evidence of the simultaneous use of trumpets in at least two different keys, probably for two different styles of playing.

Experiencing Lockrop : A phenomenological approach to contemporary practice of Swedish herding callsCarlyon, Elizabeth January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this master’s thesis is to gain knowledge and understand of contemporary lockrop(Swedish herding calls) practices from the perspectives of those who engage with it. It aims to dothis by paying close attention to the nuanced phenomenological aspects that may shape experiencewithin the moment in which practice occurs. Main research questions include: how do practitionersdescribe their experience of lockrop practice? How do they shape the practice aesthetically? Whattypes of benefits do they claim arise from engaging with lockrop, and what limitations do they face?Which factors hold the potential to alter and shape their practice experience? In order to achieve this,I have conducted multi-sited fieldwork in Sweden in the form of auto-ethnography, interview andparticipant observation with a strong focus on turning attention toward embodied perception of themoment. Eight participants were interviewed in a one-on-one setting, with a further fourinterviewed in a group setting. Participants ranged from established, performing practitioners tocomplete beginners. As a practitioner myself, I also kept a log of my own experiences of lockropunder the course of fieldwork in order to help build an empathetic understanding with participantanswers and bring the reader closer to the moment of experience. A cross analysis of qualitativefieldwork data revealed a nuanced and multi-layered range of participant experience that istransformative depending upon the individual, setting and circumstance. Despite this, severalidentifiable themes emerged. These include how lockrop practice is shaped aesthetically andexperientially when performed for an audience, how embodied perception of the practice shiftswhen it is engaged with for personal, recreational and/or enjoyment, how communicational aspectsof lockrop practice have been transformed when practice occurs outside of the pastoral andtraditional environment, the use of lockrop as a tool for individual well-being, and the impact thatperformance anxiety can have on practitioners. This study broadens current dialogues held aroundcontemporary lockrop practice in previous research. It emphasises the importance of turning to themoment of practice itself. Such discussions may prove fruitful in considering future potentialitiesand considerations connected to the teaching and usage of lockrop.

Evaluating information content of earnings calls to predict bankruptcy using machine learnings techniquesGhaffar, Arooba January 2022 (has links)
This study investigates the prediction of firms’ health in terms of bankruptcy and non-bankruptcy based on the sentiments extracted from the earnings calls. Bankruptcy prediction has long been a critical topic in the world of accounting and finance. A firm's economic health is the current financial condition of the firm and is crucial to its stakeholders such as creditors, investors, shareholders, partners, and even customers and suppliers. Various methodologies and strategies have been proposed in research domain for predicting company bankruptcy more promptly and accurately. Conventionally, financial risk prediction has solely been based on historic financial data. However, an increasing number of finance papers also analyze textual data during the last few years. Company’s earnings calls are the key source of information to investigate the current financial condition and how the businesses are doing and what the expectations are for the next quarters. During the call, management offers an overview of recent performance and provide a guidance for the next quarter expectations. The earnings calls summary is provided by the management and can extract the CEO’s sentiments using sentiment analysis. In the last decade, Machine Learnings based techniques have been proposed to achieve accurate predictions of firms’ economic health. Even though most of these techniques work well in a limited context, on a broader perspective these techniques are unable to retrieve the true semantic from the earnings calls, which result in the lower accuracy in predicting the actual condition of firms’ economic health. Thus, state-of-the-art Machine Learnings and Deep Learnings techniques have been used in this thesis to improve accuracy in predicting the firms’ health from the earnings calls. Various machine learnings and deep learnings method have been applied on web-scraped earnings calls data-set, and the results show that LONG SHORT-TERM MEMORY (LSTM) is the best machine learnings technique as compared to the comparison set of models.
