Manuel Bandeira e a claridade: confluências literárias entre o modernismo brasileiro e o cabo-verdiano / Manuel Bandeira and Claridade: literary confluences of Brazilian and Cape Verdean Modernism

Paula, Julio Cesar Machado de 13 March 2006 (has links)
This work analyzes the importance of Manuel Bandeira?s poetry, in the context of Brazilian literary Modernism, for the group of Cape Verdean authors responsible for the publication of Claridade magazine, especially in its first phase, in 1936 and 1937. Emphasis is given to some aspects that contributed to the literary confluence existent between these authors, such as the similarities of cultural formation, the quest for a Modernism that could function as a bridge between the literary heritage and the formal esthetic innovation, and the utopian nature of the literature. The intention is to contribute to a new reading of the Brazilian poet, stressing aspects that were relegated to the background, and, as a result, promoting a valorization of the Cape Verdean authors as agents in the vast system composed of all literatures written in the Portuguese language.

Eugénio Tavares: portraits of Cape Verde in prose and poetry.

Rodrigues Sobrinho, Genivaldo 20 August 2010 (has links)
The comparative reading of the productions in prose and poetry that make up Eugénio Tavaress literary work enables the understanding of the importance nativist writers participation for the building of Cape Verde nation, its culture and the formation of its literary series. We will try to establish an outline of the Cape Verdean context from the turn of the nineteenth century to the twentieth one by analysing Eugénio Tavaress journalistic and epistolary productions and emphasing the purpose of complaint of the main social, economical and political quests as well as libertarian aspirations which worried Cape Verdean intellectuals of that time. In poetry, which sometimes expresses itself in Portuguese language, sometimes in the morna in Cape Verdean language (Creole), we will hilight the aspects that make eugeniana art converge to a late ultrarromanticism of Lusitanian root and at the same time, the strategies that erasure this style from within, through devices such as criticism and carnavalizador humor. Concerning the morna, the registration document of the collective consciousness, a piece of a historical, cultural and humanistic heritage, submitted to Eugénio Tavaress mastery of writing, will constitute, besides being an identitary Creole trait, one of the landmarks of Cape Verdean literary lyricism. The option of working with the collation of texts from different genres expresses our attempt to capture the richness with which Eugénio Tavares presents himself and represents Cape Verde in his work.

Flagrantes de cotidianos periféricos na literatura contemporânea de Brasil e Cabo Verde / Scenes of inner-city everyday life in contemporary Brazilian and Cape Verdean literatures

Ribeiro, Giselle Rodrigues 20 October 2015 (has links)
We have addressed the novels Guia afetivo da periferia, by the Brazilian writer Marcus Vinícius Faustini, and Marginais, by the Cape Verdean writer Evel Rocha, in order to study their protagonists, characters that live in poverty in urban areas. Our motivation was the need to understand how they are portrayed. We therefore delved into the investigation of their daily experiences, and from that we were able to identify some of their characteristics and attitudes. The investigation was based on theoretical texts that defend the importance of a hermeneutic of everyday life, pointing to it as a way of optimizing the recording of anonymous life experiences and legitimate social demands that are hidden at the hegemonic groups\' convenience. Such hermeneutic is based on the understanding that informal life experiences should be understood as leveraging human knowledge. We have analyzed five motifs that proved to be common to both novels: life, death, disease, work and territory. We found that the way both texts portray life in the inner cities are complementary, although, individually, they emphasize one-sided visions of the social reality they portray. We have also found that the novels innovate in the way they address some themes, such as the fight against tuberculosis and the option for self-employment, and at the same time somehow ratify positions that restrain human beings, for example when they link the notion of decency to having or not employment contract and poverty to criminality.

A expressão metafórica do sentido de existir na literatura caboverdiana contemporânea: João Varela, Corsino Fortes e José Luís Tavares / The metaphorical expression of the sense of existing on contemporary Cape Verdean literature: João Varela, Corsino Fortes and José Luís Tavares

Fernandes, Maria de Fátima 04 October 2013 (has links)
Literary production signed by Cape Verdean authors John Vário (heteronym John Varela), Corsino Fortes and José Luís Tavares is the central object of this analysis developed from the theoretical study of the concept of identity in order to theoretical frame the Cape Verdean contemporary literature, to identify the main lines of its orientation (contents, thematic, style, rhetoric), revealing the receptivity of literary and cultural intercommunication between them, and present a theoretical and methodological reading of their works. Combining theoretical content to the contexts of poetic production before and after the independence, we analyze poems of the works Exemplos (1966-1998), of João Vário, A Cabeça Calva de Deus (2001) of Corsino Fortes, and Agreste matéria Mundo (2004) of José Luís Tavares - to check the positioning of the literary subjects in (re) building Identities in Cape Verdean literature from the 1960s of the twentieth century to the present. The treatment of the subject aims to characterize a metaphorical expression of the sense of existing on contemporary Cape Verdean literature, based primarily on cross-orientations of poststructuralist and postcolonial literary studies, Comparative Studies and Literary Theory, based on the exploitation of content with a strong philosophical dimension of contemporaneity, as conceived by theorists such as Stuart Hall, Zigmut Bauman, Antonny Giddens, Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, Edward Said, Hassan Zaoual and Benedict Anderson, Milton Santos, among others.

Representações da miséria: a Gente Pobre de Dostoiévski e os Famintos de Luis Romano / Representations of The Poverty: The Dostoevsky\'s Poor Folk and The Luís Romano\'s Famished

Castaldi, João Luiz Xavier 08 March 2012 (has links)
In this work we propose a comparative analysis of the novel Poor Folk, the first work of the Russian author Fyodor Mikhaylovich Dostoevsky, and The Famished (written in the decade of 1940 and published in 1962), the only novel of the Cape Verdean Luís Romano Madeira de Melo. To do this are taken into consideration some coincidences in the contexts in which the literature was produced, in the 19th century Tsarist Russia and in the Cape Verde-colony of mid-20th century. To compare the two works we consider, in addition to the common theme the poverty , aspects of the language and the humanist attitude of both authors, which in some way dissociate them from the so-called Naturalistic writers.
