Selfpersepsie en kursuspersepsie in studente se loopbaankeuse

Ferreira, Lynette 23 April 2014 (has links)
M.Ed. (Educational Leadership) / One of the most important choices that a student has to make is that of a career. Because of the financial implications, it is of the utmost importance that a student makes the right choice. To be able to do so, the student must know him-/herself and must be aware of the demands of the specific career. The purpose of this study is to determine whether a student's self and career perception have an influence on the successful completion of his/her studies. The point of departure of this study is the perceptual tradition and self-concept theory. This tradition operates on the premise that all behaviour is a function of the individual's perceived world. Each person has a unique system of perceptions about the self and this self-concept generates behaviour and is selective as far as the assimilation of other perceptions is concerned. This tradition maintains that each person is a conscious agent who considers, constructs, interprets and then acts. Research was undertaken to investigate the self and career perceptions of students and the effect that they may have on successful career choices. The most important findings were: The students all have a positive self-concept as well as a positive perception of the future. They all feel that the economy and politics will not have a negative influence on their future career. Students who have made a successful career choice had a thorough knowledge of their future careers and of their own ability, likes, dislikes and interests whereas students who have made a wrong choice did not have such knowledge at first. The following is recommended: The vocational guidance teacher should guide pupils towards in-depth self-perceptions and career perceptions.

A study of the role of community colleges in the provision of vocational-technical education with specific reference to the Eastern Free State

Letsie, Lekhooe Elias 18 March 2004 (has links)
This study was conducted with the purpose of evaluating American community colleges in order to consider their role in the provision of vocational-technical education with specific reference to the Eastern Free State. In order to achieve this, three research methodologies were engaged in. They comprised a documentary study relating to the nature and functioning of American community colleges and to the provision of vocational-technical education in South Africa, an on-site visit to an American community college for the purpose of conducting an in-depth study thereof as well as an empirical investigation undertaken in the Eastern Free State with the purpose of determining the need for the establishment of community colleges in the region. The documentary study of the American community college as well as the on-site visit to a typical American community college have revealed that these educational institutions have been particularly useful to individuals whose educational opportunities have been limited by a variety of circumstances by being plentiful, nearby, inexpensive, offering a variety of programmes and by adhering to an open-door admissions policy that imposes few entry requirements. It has also been revealed that American community colleges have a positive impact on those associated with them, namely, students, commerce and industry, universities and society in general. The documentary study relating to the provision of vocational-technical education in South Africa has revealed that in the past the provision of education in the country has been skewed in favour of the White population, which happened to be in the minority. As a result, the majority of citizens of the country either received little or no education at all. This has resulted in high levels of illiteracy, unemployment and poverty. It has also been found that corrective measures against this state of affairs are currently being undertaken. The empirical investigation undertaken in the Eastern Free State has found that the residents of the Eastern Free State are in favour of the establishment of community colleges in their region. The type of community college that is desired is one that will lead to the upliftment of the educational levels of its students and equip them with marketable skills. Based on the findings of this study, recommendations are made relating to the establishment of community colleges in the Eastern Free State. It has been found that there is no need for the establishment of community colleges alongside the already existing FET colleges in the Eastern Free State. Instead it is recommended that some of the features of American community colleges that have contributed to their success be adopted, adapted where necessary and be integrated into the FET college operating in the Eastern Free State. / Thesis (DPhil)--University of Pretoria, 2005. / Humanities Education / DPhil / Unrestricted

The Military Police is an organization that still has strong brands of conservatism in its structure, with a strict hierarchy, which has hampered over the years, access and retention of women in the workplace associated with various social representations, between which highlights the image of a physically demanding and risky activity, contact with violent situations and environments socially devalued. In the process of inclusion of women in the military police unit, to assume new positions in the hierarchy of living circles, the subject of sex workers becomes a source of status and power, leading the way in introducing and positioning jobs, a fact that sets the process of exclusion and domination within the police apparatus. The interviewees consider that there are barriers to progress more effective participation of women in the space of the Military Police, however, indicate dimensions of positive work done by them, this is because these dimensions have provided expand democratization in the corporation, as well as between the Police and society. In Special Operations Command, despite the small number of women exist, they develop functions and actions that have always been seen as suitable only for men. Education, training on gender issues for the individuals involved and included in the Corporation become important elements for changing the forms of management, organizational culture and the deconstruction of stereotypes disadvantageous for women prevailing in the organization.

The Evaluation of Schools to College and Career (S2C) Readiness Program for Middle School Student

Gandhi, Sima D. 01 January 2020 (has links)
There is a lack of research on what it means to be college and career ready at the middle school level, and this creates confusion for students when they enter high school and must select courses that are aligned with their college and career goals. This study sought to understand how the Schools to College and Career (S2C) Readiness Program impacts middle school students at the charter school. In order to understand this impact, the study looked at how the S2C Readiness Program relates to students’ understanding and awareness of CCR at the school. Using a quantitative approach this study will sought to answer: What factors influence middle school students' awareness of college and career options after completing the S2C Readiness Program? To answer the guiding question middle school students completed two surveys. Archival data was also collected and analyzed. The results from the student survey responses showed an increase in interest in different careers as student performance level (measured from MAP score) increased. Furthermore, as students completed the S2C Readiness Program, their understanding of basic skills and content knowledge also increased. The results did show an increase in engagement and interest in their S2C elective courses. Also, students responded with an understanding of what it means to be college and career ready as they completed the S2C Readiness Program. There was also an increase in students seeking to understand what it means to be college and career ready as students get older. The research did not support a positive link between S2C elective class choice and college and career awareness. Many students responded that they did not explore college and career interests in their S2C class or on their own and did not engage in projects related to college and careers in their S2C elective class. This study sought to understand this impact, the study looked at how the S2C Readiness Program impacted students’ understanding and awareness of CCR at the charter school. Knowing that many students do not have the skills and tools necessary to be college and career ready this study hoped to provide insight for improving the S2C Readiness Program at the charter school. This research provided recommendations for improving the S2C Readiness Program at the charter school as well as college and career education opportunities in middle schools in general. This dissertation concluded with recommendations for future research to support such initiatives from elementary to the high school level.
