This qualitative research was carried out in Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brazil. Eight couples in the Mature Phase of the Family Life Cycle who had at least one child having left home and one partner aged between 45 and 55 years participated in discussion groups. In the groups, after the presentation of scenes of three films which exhibited the Courtship, Acquisition and Mature Phases of the Family Life Cycle a discussion with questions regarding aspects of verbal and non-verbal communication as a violent act in the conjugality was held. The Social Constructionism Theory and the Systemic Approach were used. The analysis of the content of the group discussions allowed categories and subcategories for subject systematization and data grouping to be formed. Participants pointed out aspects regarding gender, family of origin, values and age level, although the categories related to the objectives of this research were restricted to communicational and relational dynamics, which showed distinct characteristics in the different studied Phases. Participants identified verbal and non-verbal micro aggressive aspects of communication and relation in all films, with an important and progressive worsening of the bad relational quality triggered by the presence of communicational aggressiveness with the progression to the next Phase of the Family Life Cycle, resulting in communication as a violent act. They especially highlighted the need of dialogue, revising roles, a marital project, building up individuality and recovering intimacy as expressive problems in the Mature Phase. This study is expected to allow mature couples to become observers of the communicational aspects present in their relational dynamics. Healthier communication styles can help building self consciousness in the marital environment, which might also make a difference in the family and social contexts / Objetivou-se identificar aspectos da comunicação verbal e não-verbal como ato violento em relacionamentos conjugais, sob a ótica de casais na Fase Madura do Ciclo Vital Familiar. Realizou-se uma pesquisa qualitativa em Ribeirão Preto. Oito casais na Fase Madura do Ciclo Vital Familiar, com pelo menos um filho morando fora de casa e um dos cônjuges com idade entre 45 e 55 anos participaram de dois grupos de discussão. Nestes grupos, a partir da apresentação de trechos de três filmes que exibiam as Fases de Namoro, Aquisição e Madura do Ciclo Vital Familiar, foi conduzida uma discussão com perguntas referentes a aspectos de comunicação verbal e não-verbal como ato violento na conjugalidade. As bases teóricas utilizadas foram a Teoria do Construcionismo Social e a Abordagem Sistêmica. Por meio da análise do conteúdo das discussões dos grupos construíram-se categorias e sub-categorias para sistematizar o tema e relacionar os dados. Os participantes apontaram aspectos relativos a gênero, família de origem, valores e faixa etária, embora as categorias referentes aos objetivos da pesquisa tenham se restringido às dinâmicas comunicacional e relacional, que se comportaram de maneiras distintas nas diferentes Fases estudadas. Identificaramse aspectos micro agressivos verbais e não-verbais comunicacionais e relacionais em todos os filmes, destacando um agravamento progressivo da má qualidade relacional desencadeada pela presença da agressividade comunicacional à medida que se evoluía para a próxima Fase do Ciclo Vital Familiar, resultando na comunicação como ato violento. Destacaram em especial a necessidade de diálogo, de revisão de papéis, de projeto do casal, de construção da individualidade e de retomada da intimidade como problemas expressivos da Fase Madura. Espera-se com este estudo que casais maduros tornem-se mais observadores das formas comunicacionais presentes nas suas dinâmicas relacionais. Adotar estilos de comunicação mais saudáveis pode incentivar a conscientização individual em seus ambientes conjugais, que poderá fazer a diferença também nas esferas familiar e social
