Avaliação da influência da consultoria em iniciativas da fase Fuzzy Front End / Evaluation of the influence of the consultancy in the Fuzzy Front End initiatives

Vigna, Claudio Marcos 06 April 2017 (has links)
The main objective of this work is to study the influence of consulting on Fuzzy Front End initiatives (FFE). For this, the main constructs that support the analysis are: FFE, Fuzziness, FFE Management Model, Decision Making Model and Consulting. In order to better understand the phenomenon in question, the FFE, it is evaluated, through a bibliographic review, which are the main enablers in FFE management for the processes of product innovation in companies. In this sense, an FFE management model was elaborated, based on a preexisting model, improved with decision-making models. We used the Case Study methodology and the Extended Case Method, applied to consultancies that execute FFE initiatives in client companies. The research question is: What is the influence of consulting companies in FFE of client\'s enterprises? A model of idea generation was also designed to understand the genesis of the idea\'s emergence in FFE initiatives. In the same way, the mapping of the FFE within the science of administration was carried out, showing that the FFE should be understood as the engine of generation and selection of ideas for any type of change, and for this, we used Decision Theory, In order to integrate the FFE with other science subjects. As a result, this work brings a complete view of the FFE, verifying the practical applicability of the enablers in the literature; A management model of interaction dynamics and competence generation between consultancies and client companies; as well as the recognition of the value generated by consultancies in FFE initiatives.

Evaluation of the swat model in simulating catchment hydrology : case study of the Modder river basin

Tetsoane, Samuel Tshehla January 2013 (has links)
Thesis (M. Tech. (Civil engineering)) - Central University of Technology, free State, 2013 / Hydrological models have become vital tools for understanding hydrologic processes at the catchment level. In order to use model outputs for tasks ranging from regulation to research, models should be scientifically sound, robust, and tenable. Model evaluation is therefore beneficial in the acceptance of models to support scientific research and to guide policy, regulatory, and management decision-making. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of the SWAT model in simulating stream flow for the Modder River Basin. The study area is situated at -29° 11’ latitude and 26° 6’ longitude at an elevation of 1335 m and drains a land area of 949 km2. The land cover is mainly grassland (pasture) with other minor land use types. The climate of the area is semi-arid with Mean Annual Precipitation (MAP) of 563 mm. Two techniques that are widely used in evaluating models, namely quantitative statistics and graphical techniques, were applied to evaluate the performance of the SWAT model. Three quantitative statistics, namely Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE), percent bias (PBIAS), and ratio of the mean square error to the standard deviation of measured data (RSR), in addition to the graphical techniques, were identified to be used in model evaluation. Results of calibration and validation of the model at a monthly time step gave NSE of 0.65, Pbias of 15 and RSR of 0.4, while NSE of 0.5, Pbias of 31 and RSR of 0.5 were recorded for validation. According to monthly model performance ratings, the model performed well during calibration and performed satisfactory during the validation stage.

Case-Based Learning (CBL) in Selected Physical Therapy Curricula and Its Perceived Effectiveness by Students, Faculty, and Administrators

Nelson, Timothy Kirk 14 May 2010 (has links)
Case-based learning (CBL) is commonly used in physical therapy curricula even though not much evidence exists as to the effectiveness of this instructional tool in physical therapy education. Through qualitative evaluation methodology, the researcher investigated the utilization and implementation of this instructional methodology in selected physical therapy curricula, as well as its perceived effectiveness by physical therapy students, faculty, and administrators. Data collection was performed through classroom observations, interviews, and focus group interviews at eight physical therapy programs across the United States that identified themselves as moderate to high implementers of CBL. Through the analysis of the qualitative data gleaned from the participants, case-based learning was found to be a very effective instructional methodology in these academic programs as described by administrators, faculty, and students alike. Specifically, case-based learning was found to effectively enhance students' learning, problem solving skills, clinical preparedness, and confidence levels. Barriers that may limit the effectiveness of the implementation and utilization of case-based learning were discussed, including stakeholder buy-in, time and cost requirements, an individual knowledge and skill with case-based learning techniques. Multiple factors were found to exist that positively influence the effectiveness of the implementation and utilization of case-based learning including techniques that make the learning experience safe, real, impactful, and empowering.

Den osynliga vardagsrasismens realitet

Schmauch, Ulrika January 2006 (has links)

The main objective of the thesis is to study how people of African decent experience and deal with everyday discrimination and racism in a context where such racism is to a large degree concealed and/or denied. Everyday racism affecting people with an African background in Sweden is expressed in a number of different, often subtle and obscure, ways. It is experienced in a context of structural inequality between those who are racialized and those who are seen as the norm in society. The mystification that takes place in the public debate highly restricts the opportunities for resistance in an open and articulated manner. This is partly because silence leads to an insecurity about how to understand the racism experienced, for example, should it be defined as “racism” or as a “misunderstanding”? In addition, people who openly resist and protest tend to be discredited as exaggerating or being too sensitive. Consequently, resistance against structural discrimination in Sweden today is difficult. The findings demonstrate that interviewees deal with everyday racism in a variety of ways that can be categorized in to three broad strategies: mystifying the experiences of racism in one’s everyday life, longing for a place or context far away from Swedish racism and finally, keeping racism at a distance, including resisting and protesting within the existing limitations.
