The study of the investment strategy of the foreign banks in China

After China entry WTO at the end of 2001, the financial market will open to the outside world progressively , and it will even open business of RMB after five years. It will attract more foreign banks to invest to China's market ; On the other hand, the Taiwanese investing banks want to serves small and medium-sized enterprises invest in China, so it is necessary to the Taiwanese investing banks to invest in China. It is obvious that more and more foreign banks want to make investment in China. For the Taiwanese investing banks or other foreign banks can make investment successfully in China, through the study of the foreign banks make investment successfully and for a long time in China to probe the development of the foreign banks in China. And find the competitiveness of the five cities that absorb the foreign banks in SWOT analysis¡FAnd then analyse with the investment strategy of case banks , such as HSBC , Citibank and Standard Chartered Bank. Finally the study find that the foreign banks still faced the hindrance on a lot of policies when made investment in China. China want to open the private banks at present , and it will form state-run bank , the foreign banks and private banks to compete with each other in China¡¦s financial market in the future. It¡¦s important to the foreign banks to use one's own assets strength and develop investment strategy actively. The best choice is to cooperate with China¡¦s banks and replace competing. A Framework for Collaborative New Product Development Model: Experience of Steel Industry in Taiwan

Abstract The collaborative product development or strategic alliances is a contemporary trend. Although collaborative new product development is widely recognized risky and its value has been questioned, new products remain the lifeblood of businesses and the essence for firms to survive in the competitive and rapid changing world. Nevertheless, many advantages drive the enterprises engaging in the collaborative model. To bring new product to market faster, better, and cheaper, the collaborative new product development model has been demonstrated in amount of various settings as one of the most effective and efficient solutions for new product development, especially for those businesses that lack for sufficient R&D resources. The purpose of this study is to present a framework with some practitioners¡¦ new product development experience along with literature research and a case study of collaborative new platform product development project in Taiwan¡¦s steel industry. Tsang Min Chiu has been engaged in the study case as the coordinator of the project. As a participated observer, the author deeply involves the project and keeps a complete set of documents. Therefore, in addition to the literature, the data collection are mainly done by documentation and complemented by semi-constructed interview. In this study, a collaborative new product development framework with suggestions of practitioners¡¦ viewpoints has been presented. In the framework, a total of 14 successful factors have been identified and classified into internal, external, and collaborative factors with seven, three, and four components respectively. The internal key factors comprise of market-orientated product strategy, effective use of outside resources & technologies, strong organization structure and support, early involvement of team members and partners, effective internal communication, adequate resources, and good new product development process and execution. The external factors include market trend& environmental change, collaborator¡¦s support, and key external technology utilization. And, the collaborative factors consist of external communication, trust, contribution, and benefits sharing. The results of the study suggest that firms may successfully copy the collaborative new product development model by effective execution and cooperation of critical internal factors, external factors, and collaborative factors in the framework and mirroring the practitioners¡¦ experience. However the framework derived from single case under specific conditions is limited and it would require further studies for its generalization.

Factors Affecting Interaction among Traditional Classroom and Online Synchronous Classroom in Blended Learning Environment

With the innovation and use of information technology, Blended Learning, which combines traditional face-to-face and e-learning, becomes an emerging trend. Blended Learning has been widely adopted in educational field and enterprises. It is considered as a useful model to transfer knowledge, teaching and learning. What does blended learning mean? What are the impacts on instruction? How many models can blended learning have? What are the related issues and challenges? And what are the future research directions? They are all the vital issues in the future development of e-learning. Many researchers and educators have indicated that interaction is an important factor to influence learning effectiveness. Therefore, our study focus on exploring different interaction modes in blended synchronous learning environment and analyzing what kinds of roles are participated within the interaction procedures. A case study approach is adopted by taking the three blended synchronous learning courses, Negotiation and E-negotiation, Computer network, Database, which are held by the MIS department of National Sun Yat-sen University in the first semester of the 94 academic year as research subjects. We also apply phenomenology view point and qualitative methodology to find out all different phenomenons of interaction existing in the studied blended learning environment. The results found eight different dimensions of interaction including instructor-to-instructor, instructor-to-learner, instructor-to-content, instructor-to-interface, learner-to-instructor, learner-to-learner, learner-to-content and learner-to-interface. We then provide suggestions for instructors, learners and managers how they can improve interaction in blended learning environment according to each interaction dimension.

Systems Thinking and Knowledge Management--a Case Study of China Steel Corporation

Abstract Knowledge Management is always a mission critical task. There has been over thousand thesis about Knowledge Management (KM) published in Taiwan. Eight of these thesis adopted KM activities of China Steel Corporation (CSC) as case studies. However, we seldom see someone analyze KM activities by the approach of Systems Thinking in Taiwan. In early , Forrester defined Systems Thinking as ¡§an approach of studying and managing complex feedback systems.¡¨ Sherwood (2002) adds on holistic point of view: ¡§If you wish to understand a systems, and so be in a position to predict its behavior, it is necessary to study the system as a whole. , Peter Senge (1991) proposed the concept of Systems Archetype in The Fifth Discipline. The connection between Systems Thinking and Knowledge Management is worthy to pay attention. In this thesis, the author used the methodology of interviews. By interviews, the author fond three critical challenges of CSC KM activities: lack of executive support, indifferent peer attitude and communication obstacles. Furthermore, the author applied Causal Loop Diagrams to find the cause of the above three challenges. By Causal Loop Diagrams, the causes are conservative culture, not enough time and lack of full recognition of KM. Based on the CSC organization activity research of Professor G. Gary Hu¡Fthe theory of ¡§Strategic Surplus,¡¨ was created by Professor Showing H. Young in the department of Business Administration , National Sun Yat-sen University¡Fthe U Theory of the Fifth Discipline, the author would like to give CSC the following recommendations: 1. Insert fresh air to the conservative working culture of CSC. 2. Help knowledge worker to do time management or employ more knowledge worker. 3. Apply U theory. Helps people in CSC to establish proper mindset toward change and KM.

A study on competitive strategies of high performance companies ¡V Case study on printed circuit board industry

Taiwan¡¦s PCB industry has established a complete industry cluster in Taoyuan, we are famous for the flexible delivery, outstanding quality and competitive price, it leads Taiwan to become the third largest PCB production country in the world. Nevertheless, even PCB industry has essential position in worldwide IT industry, high market concentration ratio, high product homogeneity and powerful bargaining power of buyers have weaken the profitability and forced many leading companies exited the market, such as Shea May, Unicap, Printed Wire 2003 and Unic in 2004, however, under such competitive environment, there are few companies steadily grow up and holding high performance in this battlefield. The purpose of this study is to present the competitive strategies of three high performance PCB companies ¡VGlobal Brands Manufacturer Ltd(CMK-GBM), Dynamic Electronics Co. Ltd.(Dynamic) and Taiwan PCB Techvest Co. Ltd.(TPT) along with associated literature documentations, also, through the case study and on-site interviews, we may have better understanding of the core competencies and competitive edge inside these high performance companies. The result of this study presents that different competitive strategies have been selected by CMK-GBM, Dynamic and TPT but all of them emphasize on marketing ability and production efficiency these two core competencies. Furthermore, their competitive advantages are driven from their competitive strategies and core competencies. Based on the study, isolated one-man business managing style is outdated. Instead, for the purpose of achieving the maximum synergy, enterprises must plan and choose punctiliously with their cooperating vendors or integrate with other companies of similar business conduction. For instance, CMK-GBM chooses to cooperate with the world¡¦s biggest PCB company Japan CMK in order to shorten the time and effort in the fields of technology and customer development. Dynamic applies the tactics of vertical integration to crisscross the investment to the raw materials vendor so they are able to acquire the raw materials steadily and competitively. TPT selects the strategy of horizontal integration and cooperation with single production process PCB vendors so they are able to provide a prompt delivery data and a competitive pricing. Furthermore, helping them to position as the 2nd biggest PCB supplier of TFT-LCD PCB market. In viewing of this comprehensive study, besides the excellent choices of the suitable strategically alliances, all these three PCB companies also have outstanding and loyal manpower resource, high quality product, and superior production capability. Therefore, they are able to break through difficult dilemmas and to grow continuously in such an intensively competitive industry.

Study of The Regulation of Bulk Transfer for Urban Planning ¢w¢wCase Study of Kaohsiung City

Since, June of 1999 The Regulation of Bulk Transfer for Urban Planning has been carried out, which is tried implementing in Taipei & Taipei county until June of 2004. From July 1 of 2005, on all counties and cities implement it in an all-round way. So far, there are only two application cases in Kaohsiung city , since the examining principles have been announced. This research will probe into reference documents of TDR and all the situtations about bulk transfer in this country¡CThrough all these points of view the study aims at probing into the problems of implementing it in Kaohsiung city bulk transfer.The research approach adopts an exploratory case study, including calculating IRR with cases and interviewing real estate, officials and scholars. The goal is to get ¡§generalizing¡¨ , not ¡§ particularizing¡¨ analysis.The result of study is based on construct validity of thesis. It¡¦s analytic generalization not statistical generalization.From the sight of Kaohsiung¡¦s TOD policy we find :In policy direction, for core of the city (Cianjin, Sinsing, Lingya, Sanmin, Yencheng district), there are functions to match up the centeral government¡¦s six years plan for urban renewal.But urban renewal is the most difficult for real estate co. to invest and develop.Nowadays, outside the core of city and in the suburb, vacan lots are preferred to invest.Like this, the policy directions are not combined with the behavior of non-governmental investment.The bulk is needed in the core of city, but it is difficulty to processing. And in the second circle and suburb, there is no bulk transfer encouragement, which is not fit for the development policies.Under the circumstance against policy & both hurting public and private. It¡¦s difficult for the bulk transfer policy to make great achievements.From the reference documents and case data, we farther find that a bulk transfer case should catch with the development trend of the local real estate market in order to succeed.In interviewing , all the interviewees have the same point of view: In Taipei city and county, because of highly urban development, gathering population and high profit of real estate, the bulk transfer already extremely popular. Comparatively, in Kaohsiung city, because of industry depression, purchasing power drop, no population growth and real estate market is difficult to promote the bulk transfer policy. Because, whether the bulk receving lots can create the profit is the key point for bulk transfer to become popular.

A study on the Children of the New Female Immigrants' interpersonal relationship and relating affecting factors

Abstract This study is based on the ecosystem theory exploring the interpersonal relationship of so-called New Female Immigrants¡¦ offspring. The researcher used qualitative ways as the main research approach for the study, generating information. through literature analysis, sociometric method and interviews. The findings and results of the study as follows: 1. The ecosystem provides a full and complete view of the issue, the relationships among microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem and macrosystem are deeply connected to and thus affecting one another. 2. From the microsystem¡¦s point of view, mothers¡¦ and teachers¡¦ attitude has had a great impact on the interpersonal relationships of their offspring. 3. Looking at things from the mesosystem¡¦s perspective, parents and teachers rarely communicate with each other. And due to limitation in language expression, the new female immigrants from the southeastern Asia could not rely on the homework diary as the major source of teacher¡¦s ideas information from, which is the most important communication tool between teachers and parents. Therefore, difficulties in language made it harder for the parents to participate in children¡¦s school lives, and affecting the quality of parent and children interaction. 4. As for exosystem considered, the findings concerning the aspects of ¡§school administration¡¨, ¡§curriculum and instruction¡¨, and ¡§policy¡¨, show that educators and policy makers had been lacking of multicultural thinking, and thus leading to a situation where community resources aren¡¦t efficiently used. 5. Macrosystem implies the existence of ethnocentrism thinking. Discrimination and prejudice from the public did influence the interpersonal relationship and adaptability of new female immigrants and their children. According to the above findings, some suggestions were proposed by the researcher for future measures in education and counseling. Case study: strategic planning process used by the Texas A&M University Career Center when creating technology initiative project

There is a plethora of research and literature focusing on strategic planning yet there few case studies have been done that describe the strategic planning process for university career centers. No effective strategic planning guide has been written to assist career center employees with building a strategic plan that will assist in reaching all Texas A&M University students with job skills training. The purpose of this study is to give a detailed account of the strategic planning process used by the Texas A&M Career Center to create the technology initiative. The study will also provide guidance to the researcher and others who will be developing similar initiatives in the future. In an effort to assist career centers nationwide it would be helpful for those career centers to look at others, like Texas A&M Career Center, who have already begun the strategic planning process. A descriptive case study design was chosen because it adds strength to what is already known and also helps explain complex issues. Case study research gives an in-depth contextual analysis of a limited number of events. The study of the planning process is very complex and case study research is one method that can be used to bring deeper understanding and add strength to what we already know about the planning process (Dooley, 2002). Following the lead of Rice (2002) a descriptive case study was chosen so that the researcher could describe the strategic planning process and interpret the findings in a way that would provide greater insight. Qualitative methods, including examination of documents, examination of journals, calendars and meeting notes, and interviews with a few members involved in the process to clarify any questions of memory, were used in this study. The study described the technology initiative and split the development into five stages: Conception, Birth, Toddling, Up and Running, and Adolescence (Rice, 2002). The researcher has completed the descriptive case study and analyzed the data according to the planning approach continuum. A new model has been created that provide insight to the researcher and hopefully other planners. Recommendations and conclusions have been provided that will hopefully be beneficial to other planners. The descriptive case study provides a story that highlights good and bad planning techniques and the researcher hopes that others will read and learn from this study. The purpose of the study has been fulfilled.

Developing Criteria for Evaluating Online International Team Teaching Courses

Due to the development of the broadband Internet access and advanced learning technology, online synchronous teaching with teachers and students located at many different countries becomes feasible nowadays. Online international teaching not only enhances the varieties of teaching environments but also arouses learners to generate multiple thoughts through interacting with foreign instructors and classmates without living their own countries. However, online international teaching is a more complex educational environment, the cross-cultural differences and the characteristic of computer-mediated communication result that a single instructor would not be possible to handle all the matters in an online synchronous classroom. In the past, international instructors employed teaching assistants to reduce problems of cultural differences. This idea can be applied to online international teaching, a group of instructors can form a teaching team which includes different nations¡¦ instructors, teaching assistants and technicians such that the problems caused by the cross-cultural communication and challenges of information technology can be reduced. Online international team teaching is a brand new teaching environment, there are few researches being done in this kind of teaching environment so far. Therefore, this study wants to explore the components and the important criteria for online international team teaching. The case we adopted for this study was an online international team teaching course called ¡§Business English and Communication¡¨ offered by the MIS department of NSYSU. This research used participant observation and in depth interview to get primary data, and then use the phenomenology to analyze the secondary data which extracted from course discussion boards. The research findings are three main components and 17 criteria in total for online international team teaching. The three main components are ¡§online international teaching¡¨, ¡§online collaboration by teaching team¡¨ and ¡§interacting instruments¡¨. ¡§Online international teaching¡¨ includes 6 criteria offering guidelines for international teaching. ¡§Online collaboration by teaching team¡¨ includes 5 criteria offering suggestions for international collaboration. And ¡§interacting instruments¡¨ includes 3 criteria related to the interacting instruments of online international team teaching course. The last 3 criteria are for the common intersection of the three main components. We also proposed suitable suggestions from three different aspects, teaching aspect, material/ system aspect and learning aspect for researchers to do further study and for instructors to better teach online international team teaching courses.
