Abstract
The communication and information technology, particularly the Internet, has dramatically changed the way we have done business before. Therefore. Some different work arrangements have emerged in the technology-based business, such as telecommuting, mobile office, hoteling, satellite office, etc. The number of telecommuters in the US today is up to 25 million. In Taiwan, China Productivity Center (CPC), Taiwan Xerox, Taiwan IBM, and Taiwan HP have implemented the mobile office system for several years. Arthur Andersen and Sun also built their flexible office last year.
As the literatures indicated that telecommuting did increase organizational flexibility, job efficiency, employee satisfaction, productivity, customer satisfaction, while reduce commuting time and transportation costs, office spaces. However, the teleworkers felt more isolated as a result of working in a remote environment. Their interpersonal relationship and communication with supervisor or co-worker all got worse. Besides, managers also worried about telecommuting will reduce their authority and control power.
The main purpose of this study is to understand how Internet affect the individual worker¡¦s work style, especially what are the key factors being considered in telecommuting. Finally, the proposed telecommuting model would be empirically examined in the selected information technology-based organizations.

A Study of Issues Encountered by Taiwanese IT Specialists when working in ChinaSu, Ya-Ko 02 August 2002 (has links)
Abstract
The economic activities between Taiwan and China have increased substantially in the last few years and many companies are now investing in China. This creates a great need for Taiwanese IT specialists to work in China. This study investigates the issues encountered by those specialists. The result shows that great cultural differences exist between Taiwanese and Chinese IT specialists. Furthermore, these differences lead to problems in mutual trust, work ethics, and values. As a result, to be successful in China, Taiwanese IT specialists are required to possess, in addition to IT know-how, a variety of knowledge in other domains such as finance and human resource management. Furthermore, while they typically encounter greater challenges in China than they normally do in Taiwan, they can also have a better sense of achievement at the same time. Finally, other issues such as leisure, personal safety, family support, and the desire for self-growth are important concerns of Taiwanese IT specialists who must work in Taiwan.

Temperature Effect on the Soil Water Retention CharacteristicJanuary 2011 (has links)
abstract: The importance of unsaturated soil behavior stems from the fact that a vast majority of infrastructures are founded on unsaturated soils. Research has recently been concentrated on unsaturated soil properties. In the evaluation of unsaturated soils, researchers agree that soil water retention characterized by the soil water characteristic curve (SWCC) is among the most important factors when assessing fluid flow, volume change and shear strength for these soils. The temperature influence on soil moisture flow is a major concern in the design of important engineering systems such as barriers in underground repositories for radioactive waste disposal, ground-source heat pump (GSHP) systems, evapotranspirative (ET) covers and pavement systems.. Accurate modeling of the temperature effect on the SWCC may lead to reduction in design costs, simpler constructability, and hence, more sustainable structures. . The study made use of two possible approaches to assess the temperature effect on the SWCC. In the first approach, soils were sorted from a large soil database into families of similar properties but located on sites with different MAAT. The SWCCs were plotted for each family of soils. Most families of soils showed a clear trend indicating the influence of temperature on the soil water retention curve at low degrees of saturation.. The second approach made use of statistical analysis. It was demonstrated that the suction increases as the MAAT decreases. The statistical analysis showed that even though the plasticity index proved to have the greatest influence on suction, the mean annual air temperature effect proved not to be negligible. In both approaches, a strong relationship between temperature, suction and soil properties was observed. Finally, a comparison of the model based on the mean annual air temperature environmental factor was compared to another model that makes use of the Thornthwaite Moisture Index (TMI) to estimate the environmental effects on the suction of unsaturated soils. Results showed that the MAAT can be a better indicator when compared to the TMI found but the results were inconclusive due to the lack of TMI data available. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.S. Analysis of a Galerkin-Characteristic algorithm for the potential vorticity-stream function equationsBermejo, Rodolfo January 1990 (has links)
In this thesis we develop and analyze a
Galerkin-Characteristic method to integrate the potential
vorticity equations of a baroclinic ocean. The method proposed
is a two stage inductive algorithm. In the first stage the
material derivative of the potential vorticity is approximated
by combining Galerkin-Characteristic and Particle methods.
This yield a computationally efficient algorithm for this
stage. Such an algorithm consists of updating the dependent
variable at the grid points by cubic spline interpolation at
the foot of the characteristic curves of the advective
component of the equations. The algorithm is unconditionally
stable and conservative for Δt = O(h). The error analysis with respect to L² -norm shows that the algorithm converges with
order O(h); however, in the maximum norm it is proved that for
sufficiently smooth functions the foot of the characteristic
curves are superconvergent points of order O(h⁴ /Δt).
The second stage of the algorithm is a projection of
the Lagrangian representation of the flow onto the Cartesian
space-time Eularian representation coordinated with
Crank-Nicholson Finite Elements. The error analysis for this
stage with respect to L²-norm shows that the approximation
component of the global error is O(h²) for the free-slip boundary condition, and O(h) for the no-slip boundary condition. These estimates represent an improvement with respect to other estimates for the vorticity previously
reported in the literature. The evolutionary component of the
global error is equal to K(Δt² + h), where K is a constant that depends on the derivatives of the advective quantity along the Characteristic. Since the potential vorticity is a quasi-conservative quantitiy, one can conclude that K is in general small. Numerical experiments illustrate our theoretical results for both stages of the method. / Science, Faculty of / Mathematics, Department of / Graduate

Návrh turbodmychadla / Design of turbochargerStreďanská, Alexandra January 2020 (has links)
Diploma thesis focus on the design of turbocharger in SW MS Excel. For required flow and pressure ratio, the thermodynamics parameters were calculated for the turbocharger. From these, geometry was designed and the condition of mediums was calculated for each part of the turbine and compressor. At last basic characteristics of the turbine and compressor on varying the regime of engine operation the rotation was made and offered an idea about the working point position.
