Araújo, Ana Cristina Pacheco de January 2008 (has links)
In this study were used 30 brains of chinchilla (Chinchilla lanigera), injected with latex and coloured in red pigment, having the objetive to systematize and describe the distribution and the territories of the arterial vascularization of the rostral, middle and caudal cerebral arteries. The rostral cerebral artery was the terminal branch of the terminal branch, right and left, of the basilar artery, being rostromedially projected. Its first collateral vessel was the medial branch, which continued as the rostral interhemispheric artery. This emitted the rostral and medial rostral hemispheric branches. Also, the rostral cerebral artery emitted central branches to the paliopallial region, the lateral and medial arteries of the olfactory bulb, and finished its trajectory with the internal ethmoidal artery. The vascularization territory of the rostral cerebral artery comprehended the rostral two-thirds of the olfactory trigone, the medial olfactory tract, the olfactory peduncle, the olfactory bulb, the entire medial surface of the cerebral hemisphere, except for the tentorial part of it, and the convex surface of the cerebral hemisphere, since the rostral pole until next to the caudal pole, medially to the vallecula, and also a small area of the convex surface, bordering the transverse cerebral fissure. The middle cerebral artery was the last collateral branch of the terminal branch of the basilar artery, being laterally projected into the lateral cerebral fossa’s interiors. In its trajectory on the ventral surface of the cerebral hemisphere it emitted inumerous collateral vessels denominated as rostral, caudal and striated (perforating) central branches, which vascularized the paliopallial area. Its main axis was projected on the convex surface of the cerebral hemisphere and emitted several colateral branches denominated as rostral and caudal convex hemispheric branches. The vascular territory of the middle cerebral artery comprehended the piriform lobe, except for a small medial and caudal strip, the lateral cerebral fossa, the most caudal third of the olfactory trigone and the lateral olfactory tract, and on the convex surface of the cerebral hemisphere almost its entire territory, except for a extensive strip, medial to the vallecula, which was extended since the rostral pole until the caudal pole, caudally bordering the transverse cerebral fissure. The caudal cerebral artery was originated from the terminal branch, right and left, of the basilar artery, at the level of the Oculomotor nerve origin, being laterodorsally projected. It emitted central branches to the piriform lobe, the caudal choroidal artery, and from the time it started to emit the caudal medial hemispheric branches, it continued with the caudal inter-hemispheric artery. Also, two arteries complemented the vascular area of the caudal cerebral artery, being these arteries the rostral tectal and the rostral choroidal arteries. The vascular territory of the caudal cerebral artery comprehended the caudal third of the piriform lobe, the pineal body, the medular stria, the habenula, the dorsal surface of the thalamus, the medial and lateral geniculate bodies, the hippocampus, the choroidal plexus of the III ventricle and lateral ventricle, the corpus callosum’s splenium, the tentorial part of the medial surface of the cerebral hemisphere, and on the convex surface, the limitant border, bordering the transverse cerebral fissure.

Gurgel, Ana Cláudia Fagundes January 2005 (has links)
Giardiasis is one of the most frequent and most important parasite infections that affect chinchillas. It is caused by Giardia lamblia, a small parasite that often causes intestinal disorders, and can negatively impact chinchilla breeding. Transmission occurs through the fecaloral route, and clinical signs include diarrhea, anorexia and weight loss. Cryptosporidiosis is an infection caused by an obligatory intracellular protozoan parasite of the genus Cryptospodidium. The main source of infection is fecal matte containing oocysts from infected or carrier individuals. Cryptosporidium causes severe diarrhea in chinchillas. Eimeria is a protozoan parasite of the pylum Apicomplexa. Eimeriosis is found in areas with poor sanitation, where oocysts are passed in the feces, and then ingested in contaminated food and water. Capybaras are susceptible to Eimeria spp. In order to investigate the intestinal protozoa that commonly infect chinchillas and capybaras in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, we used the methods developed by Faust et al., Sheater’s method modified by Benbrook, E. A., and the Ziehl-Neelsen staining method modified by Angus in 250 fecal samples of chinchillas. For the 250 fecal samples of capybaras, only Sheater’s method modified by Benbrook, E. A., was used. The chinchillas were split into two groups: group I, which consisted of animals aged 11 months or younger, and group II, which included animals aged 12 months or older. After that, the animals were classified into male and female. The capybaras belonged to a single group of 250 animals. The genus Giardia was detected in 8% of the fecal samples of chinchillas. None of these samples revealed oocysts of Eimeria and Cryptosporidium. The genus Eimeria was found in 52,4% of the fecal samples of capybaras, and the four species detected were E. trinidadensis, E. ichiloensis, E. boliviensis and an unidentified Eimeria specie. With regard to the total number of oocysts found, the relative frequency of different Eimeria species was the following: E. trinidadensis (55,04%), E. ichiloensis (32,56%), E. boliviensis (4,77%) and unidentified Eimeria specie (7,63%).

Araújo, Ana Cristina Pacheco de January 2004 (has links)
O tronco braquiocefálico lançou A. carótida comum D e E e A. subclávia D (93,3%), ou A. carótida comum D e A. subclávia D (6,7%). A. espinhal ventral presente (100%). A. cerebelar caudal D, ímpar (80%) e dupla (20%), à E, ímpar (70%) e dupla (30%). A. trigeminal D e E ímpar (100%). A. cerebelar rostral vaso caudal D, presente (73,3%) e ausente (26,7%), à E, presente (70%) e ausente (30%). A. cerebelar rostral vaso rostral D e E presente (100%). A. tectal rostral D e E ímpar (100%). A. cerebral caudal D, ímpar (53,3%), duplo (36,7%) e triplo (10%), à E, ímpar (46,7%), duplo (46,7%) e triplo (6,7%). A. hipofisária D e E presente (100%). A. oftálmica interna D, ausente (73,3%) e presente (26,7%), à E, ausente (76,7%) e presente (23,3%). A. cerebral média D e E ímpar (100%). A. cerebral rostral D e E desenvolvida (96,7%) e vaso vestigial (3,3%). A. lateral do bulbo olfatório à D, individual (76,7%) e tronco comum (23,3%), à E, individual (73,3%) e tronco comum (26,7%). A. medial do bulbo olfatório à D, individual (76,7%) e tronco comum (23,3%), à E, individual (73,3%) e tronco comum (26,7%). A. etmoidal interna D e E presente (100%).

Giardiasis is one of the most frequent and most important parasite infections that affect chinchillas. Avaliação das alterações morfológicas e da atividade da acetilcolinesterase da NADPH diaforase do plexo mientérico no intestino de Chinchilla lanigera (rodentia: chinchillidae) sob cólica timpânica experimental / Evaluation of morphological changes and acetylcholinesterase and NADPHdiaphorase activity in the myenteric plexus of the intestine of Chinchilla lanigera (Rodentia: chinchillidae) under experimental tympanic colic

Franceschi, Raphaela da Cunha January 2011 (has links)
9Continua) O tratamento recuperou o aspecto controle do PM. / The chinchilla (Chinchilla lanigera) evokes great interest in fur commercialization and as pets. However, there are few informations about its physiology, especially the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) and its diseases. The GIT of these animals is long and has a complexity similar to lagomorphs: cecum with a coiled saccular portion, followed by a tubular portion which continues in a long ascending colon. These characteristics in association with a diet rich in grains and legumes facilitates the onset of tympanic colic (TC), which is characterized by marked distension of the cecum wall due to excessive accumulation of gases produced by fermentative digestion. Considering the onset of an illness can cause morphological and functional modifications of the enteric nervous system (ENS), the rodent C. lanigera was used to asses in situ modifications on the activity of the enzymes acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and diaphorase nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH-d) in myenteric plexus (MP) neurons, using an experimental model of TC induced by dietary alterations. After two weeks of receiving the tympanism-inducing diet, the same diet of the control group was given to the recovery group, along with an anti-inflammatory drug (ketoprofen) for five days. The tympanism was confirmed by symptom analyses and by the Von Frey test. The tympanic and recovery groups showed and increase of abdominal sensibility after the onset of the disease (between the 11th and 18th days of the period in which the tympanism-inducing diet was given). With the drug treatment and the re-establishment of the diet (at day 23) the recovery group showed an abdominal sensibility similar to the control group. The necropsy revealed an increase of the cecum and ascending colon volumes in the tympanic animals, in addition to ischemia in the jejunoileal and ileocecal junctions and in the ascending colon, with mesenteric blood vessels infarction. In the recovery animals mesenteric blood vessels infarction was not present. The MP of a healthy C. lanigera is formed by an extensive ganglionar network of rectangular and uniform shape, and the ganglia are arranged in the same direction of the fiber bundles of the longitudinal muscle layer and are connected to each other by thick nerve branches. The MP is divided in three distinct networks: the primary plexus (formed by medium and large ganglia and bundles of nerve fibers of the first order); the secondary plexus (formed by small ganglia and bundles of second order); and the tertiary plexus (only bundles of third order fibers, which run parallel to the longitudinal muscle fibers). The ganglia showed a polymorphic aspect in all analyzed portions of the GIT. The TC resulted in distension of the gut wall and, therefore, the plexus, making the network less dense, the ganglia elongated and thinner connections between adjacent cells. The treatment restored the aspect of the MP to normal. Measurements of area and number of ganglia obtained with AChE activity in the three experimental groups revealed a significant increase in total ganglia area in the tympanic animals compared to the control group. There was no significant difference in the total number of ganglia and the mean of the areas of different ganglia sizes between the three groups. However, in the ascending colon there was a significant difference between the number of ganglia of the tympanic and recovery groups. These results demonstrate that the TC alters the cholinergic metabolism of myenteric ganglia. The six different morphological types of neurons, xiv according to Stach’s classification, had NADPH-d activity. The neurons with NADPH-d activity showed a differential reduction between different intestinal portions and between the six cell types. These differences are discussed according with the functional role of the neuronal types proposed by the literature. The decreased activity of NADPH-d in cell types proposed as motoneurons in other animals indicated that the TC affects the main function performed by the MP, which is the motility, especially in the saccular portions of the cecum and transverse colon. The decrease in type II cells, which are considered sensory neurons and were significantly affected in all portions of the colon, coincides with the largest distension of this portion observed in the TC. The changes observed were not reversible only in the saccular portion of the cecum and in the ascending colon, being reversible in the other analyzed portions.
