Based on a triple observation, namely the importance of Supply Chain Management approach in the management, the necessary taking into account of the culture for the implementation of this approach and a first impression of the accordance between the Chinese culture and the SCM, our research aims to analyze the SCM implementation in the Chinese cultural context. The first part of this resarch is designed for a litterature review which allows defining behavioral conditions for SCM implementation, analyzing the concept of culture as well as Chinese cultural elements, and then putting forward theoretical propositions and constructing a conceptual model. The second part intends developping the methodology of Management Science and explaining our choices of research methods mobilized in empirical analysis. After that, we realize the fieldwork through a qualitative analysis of dates collected from semi-directive interviews and a long period observation.Based on these analyses, we conclude that Chinese cultural elements positively correlate with conditions for SCM and the Chinese culture is a favorable context for SCM implementation.

Traditional Chinese Visual Design Elements: Their Applicability in Contemporary Chinese Design

January 2013 (has links)
abstract: The research presented explores traditional Chinese visual design elements with a goal of incorporating them into contemporary design. It seeks to provide insight into how Chinese and non-Chinese designers and non-designers recognize common visual design elements as being associated with Chinese design. As a result, the research explores three characteristics: a) handicraft; b) naturalism; and c) design with meaning, which can be key points in understanding traditional Chinese design. Furthermore, the research explores two sets of design criteria that can guide designers to apply these representative design elements into contemporary design in order to express Chinese culture. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.S.D. Koderová, Markéta January 2013 (has links)
This master thesis focuses on the impact of Chinese culture on marketing strategies of selected companies in China. According to statistics, a large number of subjects coming to China and aiming to conduct business here faces failure and is forced to leave this market subsequently. Considering significant differences between the western and the Chinese culture, we have to think of the question if this failure is a consequence of these subjects not being able to understand the Chinese culture and the way it affects consumers in China. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the influence and importance of the Chinese culture on marketing applied to Chinese market, including concrete description of how can the Chinese culture affect the work of marketers in China.

An explorative study on Chinese consumer’s perception and preference for the use of traditional Chinese cultural elements in marketing : - The role of nostalgia

Sun, Jingyi, Huang, Lu January 2020 (has links)
Aim: This study aims to explore the Chinese consumer's perception and preference for the use of traditional Chinese cultural elements (TCCEs) in marketing from two aspects: nostalgia formation and nostalgia preference. Methods: This study adopted the method of qualitative research. The data was collected by the students from the Zhejiang University of Technology through video semi-structured interviews. The four cases of TCCEs products are bottled water, lipstick, pajama, and stationery. They were used in the semi-structured interview. Result & Conclusions: This study concluded that age, gender, and personal experience could influence the formation of nostalgia. Besides, nostalgia advertisements and products can stimulate consumers’ positive emotions, thus generating nostalgia preference. Contribution & implication: From the perspective of companies, nostalgia marketing needs to be customized according to the characteristics of target consumers, i.e., their gender, age, and personal experience. Additionally, the connection between the product and TCCEs should be considered carefully in order to improve the understanding and acceptance of TCCEs products from consumers.

Understanding Chinese Language and Culture: A Guidebook for Teachers of English in China

Pack, Austin Cody 11 June 2013 (has links) (PDF)
Many experts on English teaching in China argue that native-English-speaking teachers are too unfamiliar with Chinese culture and the Chinese language. Many of the resources available for these teachers do not address these issues and are not adequately tailored to the native-English-speaking teachers' specific needs. This 35 page guidebook in printable pdf form addresses three key issues with English teaching in China. First, the guidebook helps teachers understand how to bridge the gap that exists between their teaching styles and their Chinese students' learning styles. Second, the guidebook provides explanations of common errors Chinese students make in English because of interference from their native language, Chinese. Lastly, the guidebook answers some of the most common cultural questions that teachers have concerning China, Chinese students, and language teaching in China. The guidebook is available free to download at austinpack.wordpress.com.

The Different Waves of "Chineseness": Analysis of Culture References and Lyrics in Zhongguofeng Music

Ye, Austin S 28 June 2022 (has links)
Zhongguofeng music 中国风流行曲 has had an impact on the Chinese pop music industry. Although the style of music uses familiar overtones that have been in wide usage within Western pop music, Zhongguofeng aims to emphasize more of a connection to a unified sense of Chinese culture, ethnicity, and identity. Specifically, I will argue that “Chineseness” is constructed through lyrics, which contain cultural references to the imperial era of China, and accompanying music videos, which provide visual imagery that further draws the viewer into an idealized “China”. In addition, the song’s instrumentals blend Western pop stylings with traditional Chinese instruments and vocal techniques. In this thesis I will use semiotics, or the study of signs and their meanings, to illustrate the listener’s perception of “China” in modern pop music. I will first introduce expressions of “Chineseness” in previous genres of Chinese pop music and then examine well-known Zhongguofeng songs. My goal is to question the nature of “Chineseness” itself and explore the process of “semantic snowballing”, in which terms change over time, depending on the individual performer and/or historical circumstances. I will analyze three different songs by artists from different regions, all released between 2006 and 2007 at the height of Zhongguofeng’s popularity : S.H.E.’s “Chinese Language” 中国话, Vincy Chan’s “Daiyu Laughs” 黛玉笑了, and Wang Lee Hom’s “Mistake in the Flower Fields” 花田错.

Senior management perception of strategic international human resource management effectiveness. The case of multinational companies performance in China

Bao, Chanzi January 2010 (has links)
The intense competition arising from globalisation requires MNCs to manage their HRs globally and strategically to become a source of competitive advantage. Hence, SIHRM acknowledges the need to balance global integration and local responsiveness, together with emphasising the importance of seeking strategic fit between HR policies and business strategy, which in turn leads to superior firm performance. Furthermore, this development also increased awareness and recognition of the role of senior managers and cultural traditions. Therefore, the primary purpose of this research was to explore the relationship between SIHRM effectiveness and firm performance as perceived by senior management coupled with the influence from MNCs' headquarters and Chinese cultural values. Consequently, the researcher selected a case study approach with a triangulation data collection method through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews undertaken in four selected subsidiaries of MNCs. The research findings strengthened the theoretical foundations of several HRM models, together with supporting Analoui's eight-parameter approach (1999) as a functional, coherent and interlinked framework regarding the effectiveness of senior managers. In particular, this research found that quality enhancement of products and service was the preferred and adopted key business strategy amongst the studied MNCs. Whilst they are also seeking to balance globalisation and localisation through reconciling control and adaptation rather than satisfying one at the expense of the other, such that the trend is for Western HR policies to be gradually accepted and internalised by the younger generation of the Chinese managers. Finally, this research made several recommendations to foreign MNCs operating in China.

The Modern Chinese Family, 1959-1975

Che, Wai-Kin 08 1900 (has links)
The problem of this dissertation was to examine certain changes in the age and sex hierarchy, extending from the traditional family to the family in Nationalist China and Communist China, with special emphasis from 1959 to 1975, and the relationship between education and the family. Discrepancies between the ideal and the actual structures in those changes are noted. Chapter XI is the summary and conclusions of the study. Possible future trends of the Chinese family are examined and further studies are suggested.
