MACKOVÁ, Gabriela January 2016 (has links)
The main goal of this thesis is to show different ways of representing Prague in literary texts written by authors such as Daniela Hodrová, Michal Ajvaz, Miloš Urban, Jáchym Topol, Adin Ljuca and Marius Szczygieł. All the analysed literary works were published after 1989. The theoretical part is devoted to the urban typology of the area of Prague. The image of the area in relation to reality, the problem of the border lines and semiotic knowledge of the Tartu-Moscow Semiotic School are examined. In the interpretative part particular writings are analysed. The characterization and the influence of the city, living and walking there are examined. The dissimilarities of the views of the city gained by the comparison are also presented in the chapter. Main motives and different methods of describing Prague in all those works are emphasized.

The provision of environmental education towards sustainability with reference to the Inner City Enviro Centre in Tshwane

Goodwin, Cary Leigh 11 1900 (has links)
The provision of environmental education towards sustainability with reference to the Inner City Enviro Centre in Tshwane is a comprehensive research project that describes the establishment and development of the Inner City Environmental Centre over a six-year period. This research focuses on the informal education sector and the methods used by centres, both locally and internationally to provide environmental education and / or education for sustainability. The Inner City Enviro Centre is used as a case study. The development of the ICEC is investigated in terms of the objectives it was to fulfil. The achievements and difficulties that the ICEC experienced are examined. This was done using document analysis and by interviewing those involved. This information was then assimilated and helped the researcher to make informed, objective judgements concerning the ICEC. Educators working on a project with the ICEC were given questionnaires which asked questions relating to environmental education and excursions. The data collected from findings is used to provide guidelines for future development of the ICEC and for others who might want to embark on similar projects. / Further Teacher Education / M.Ed. Notwithstanding, in many cities, the production of space has not followed the international model stricto sensu, but a variation of the model, here called, strategic city planning without a plan or peripheral (or yet incomplete) urban entrepreneurialism . This seeks to build city attributes in order to qualify cities for the competitive international and/or regional markets. This includes the production of iconic buildings and structures, here called urban icons. They rapidly become symbols in the contemporary city landscape, facilitating the promotions of the city for tourism and business. This also helps produce charismatic leaderships. However, what it does best is to promote real estate development. This dissertation seeks to understand the role of iconic buildings in the promotion of real estate business in Natal, especially how it helps to fuel prices in the market. The research is done by use of interviews with civil servants and private entrepreneurs related to real estate business / O modelo de planejamento estrat?gico de cidades chegou ?

Smart and Sustainable Cities in EU Research and Innovation Strategic Framework / Chytrá a udržitelná města v kontextu vědecké a inovační strategie EU

Horniecká, Marie January 2016 (has links)
The thesis explores how the EU support to research and innovation towards urban sustainability is designed, what the existing EU intiatives striving for achieving smart and sustainable cities are. The analysis of theoretical approaches forms the basis for developing the definition of smart and sustainable city for the purpose of this thesis. An overview of the principal EU strategic documents which address urban sustainability together with European networks is provided in order to demonstrate the linkage to the research Framework Programmes. A separate chapter is devoted to the analysis of the most pressing challenges European cities face nowadays. Database of EU funded research and innovation calls and projects is examined (E-CORDA). Calls and projects related to urban areas are identified and juxtaposed with the urban problems. Final recommendations concern with social aspects of sustainability which should be, in the author's opinion, addressed in future EU research Framework Programmes with a particular attention.

Marquardt, Gesine January 2013 (has links)

Aggregate City: an urban machine that triggers intuitive experience of view from a non-single perspective

Sun, Shudi January 2023 (has links)
City Aggregation Machine- Project for HousingThe core concept of the project is Ambi-formalism. The main content of the design is urban morphology and an urban system of collective communities. Aim at creating a non-single perspective of reading, I call this intuitive experience, to increase presence to position “ourselves".Based on the generative logic of the Fengshui map and the European fortification map of the city wall, the origami method is used to decompose its shape, and the visual scale is used to decompose the schema into units and become a procedural grid of urban aggregation. Transform inoperable forms into operable urban unit systems. As an autonomous urban structure that can accommodate multiple reading views, in turn , which can trigger people's intuitive schema in it. so as to position ourselves.Residential district is the object designed to operate the system and skeleton of urban aggregation which mix of private and public volumes can accommodate a series of events, it aiso in itself constitutes an event. The visual layer  is the schematic route(events) into a dwelling, to identify each neighborhood.
