Cultural Heritage Management And The Impact Of Tourism: The Case Of Tripoli

El Barazi, Khawla 01 May 2009 (has links) (PDF)
Recently tourism sector has been gaining more importance as an essential part of the local economic development due to the global economic reformation, and many cities have achieved tourism based on local economic development. The concept of CHM has increasingly become an important subtitle for tourism sector with planning perspectives as a significant planning tool. The concept consists of combining the cultural, social, economic, and touristic sectors for an enhanced wider plan. This thesis aims to investigate CHM on the case of Tripoli which has witnessed CHM development at its old city centre. It tries to analyze the local impact on Tripoli city and introduce a newly rehabilitated historical city centre for better tourism activities and an improved local development. Using Tripoli study case as a research method, this research focuses on Abou Ali district in Tripoli city. This district, in particular, has examined local tourism and economic development based on a CHM project prepared at the city level base to improve its local economy depending on cultural management related to its tourism activities. The local government, assisted by national and international supports, has introduced CHM to help the old neglected historical city centre re-emerge into the local economy which is the focal point this thesis aims to study.

An Advanced Machining Process Simulator For Industrial Applications

Yegin, Emre 01 December 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Turning and milling are the main manufacturing techniques in industry. A great deal of time and money is spent for machining operations. Although most of the time, the tool path of a CNC machine tool is generated by a Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software package, to be sure that the result of the machining operation will be as required, it is necessary to use a simulation software. There are various machining simulation software packages available in the market. However, they are not only expensive, but also specialized for only one of the before mentioned machining techniques. Most of the companies in the industry are small or medium scale ones and, it is not so easy for them to afford a specialized simulation software for that purpose. In this thesis, it is aimed to develop a software package, which will be used to simulate advanced industrial machining processes, including turning and milling. Dexelmodeling, which is generated by ray casting, and sweep plane algorithm withpolygon clipping technique are used forvisualization. For polygon clipping technique, outer surfaces of the resultant workpiece are generated from planar contours. The software is developed in C# programming language and DirectX libraries are utilizedfor visualization purposes. With the aid of this software, it is also aimed to visually confirm the validity of both mill and lathe NC-code, by representing highly accurate 3D displayed results of these simulations.

Earthquakes And Ancient Site Selection In West Anatolia

Tokmak, Musa 01 May 2012 (has links) (PDF)
This study investigates the relationship between the ancient settlements in west Anatolia and physical, environmental parameters including topography, rock and morphological classes. Modern settlements are also included in the study to analyze if the response has changed to these parameters from past to the present. The databases created in the study include three topographic attributes (elevation, slope and aspect), rock type, ancient settlements and modern settlements. Analyses performed in the study involve distance and density analyses, morphological analysis / distribution within the rock types both for ancient and modern settlements. The results of the study demonstrated that 1) the active faults produced attractive topography to settle, 2) people preferred the vicinity of the fault line as settlement location, and 3) they were not aware of the earthquake potential of their location. Therefore, because of the advantage of the location they did not consider to change the place as indicated by rebuilding their settlement repeatedly at the same place after it is damaged.

Πουλόπουλος, Βασίλειος 01 November 2010 (has links)
We live an era of technology advances and huge technological steps where the Internet becomes a basic place of demonstration of the technology trends. Nevertheless, the way of operation and construction of the WWW is extremely uneven and this results in dead-ends when the users are trying to locate information. Besides the existence of billions of domains leads to difficulties in difficulties in recording all this information. The research that we are doing, is focused on websites that are sources of information and specifically news portals and informational blogs. A simple search on the Internet led to more than 40 large scale press agencies in America. This means that when trying to search for information and more specifically a news article in all its existences somebody has to visit all the websites. This problem, or at least this tedious task is of major concern of the research community. Many solutions were proposed in order to overcome the aforementioned issues with usage of RSS feeds or personalized microsites, or even analytical search applications. In any occasion there are many disadvantages that lead the user to a dead-end again. The RSS feeds do not filter information and they feed the user’s RSS readers with large amounts of information that most of it is not of the user’s concern. For example, a simple addition of 2 rss feeds from large Greek portals led to receipt of more that 1000 news articles within a day! On the other side, the usage of microsites that many websites support is a solution if and only if the user visits every single website and of course have and maintain an account to each one of them. The search engines are an alternative but lately, due to the expansion of the WWW, the results to simple queries are often million or the first results retrieved are outdated. Finally, the websites of the major news agencies are not directly constructed to offer extensive searching facilities and thus they usually offer search results through support of a large well-known search engine (eg. Google). According to the aforementioned the research that we are conducting is furthermore focused on the study of techniques and mechanisms that try to give a solution to the everyday issue of being informed about news and having a spherical opinion about an issue. The idea is simple and lies on the problem of the Internet: instead of letting the user do all the search of the news and information that meet their needs we collect all the informationand present them directly to the user, presenting only the information that meet their profile. This sounds pretty simple and logical, but the implementation we have to think of a number of prerequisites. The constraints are: the users of the Internet speak different languages and they want to see the news in their mother language and the users want access to the information from everywhere. This implies that we need a mechanism that would collect news articles from many – if not all – news agencies worldwide so that everybody can be informed. The news articles that we collect should be furthermore analyzed before presented to the users. In parallel we need to apply text pre-processing techniques, categorization and automatic summarization so that the news articles can be presented back to the user in a personalized manner. Finally, the mechanism is able to construct and maintain a user profile and present only articles that meet the profile of the user and not all the articles collected by the system. As it is obvious this is not a simple procedure. Substantially it a multilevel modular mechanism that implements and uses advanced algorithm on every level in order to achieve the required result. We are referring to eight different mechanisms that lead to the desired result. The systems are: 1. Retrieve news and articles from the Internet –advaRSS system 2. HTML page analysis and useful text extraction – CUTER system. 3. Preprocess and Natural Language Processing in order to extract keywords. 4. Categorization subsystem in order to construct ontologies that assigns texts to categories 5. Article Grouping mechanism (web application level) 6. Automatic Text Summarization 7. Web based User Personalization Mechanism 8. Application based User Personalization Mechanism The subsystems and system architecture is presented in figure 1: The procedure of fetching articles and news from the WWW is a procedure that includes algorithms that fetch data of the large database that is called internet. In this research we have included algorithms for instant retrieval of articles and the mechanism has furthermore mechanism for fetching HTML pages that include news articles. As a next step and provided that we own HTML pages with articles we have procedures for efficient useful text extraction. The HTML pages include the body of the article and information that are disrelated to the article like advertisements. Our mechanism introduces algorithms and systems for extraction of the original body of the text out of the aforementioned pages and omitting any irrelevant information. As a furthermore procedure of the same mechanism we try and extract multimedia related to the article. The aforementioned mechanism are communicating directly with the Internet.

Analysis and Compensationfor Clipping-like Distortion of the Transmitted Signal in Massive MIMO Systems

Fayad, Adel January 2018 (has links)
This project consists of analyzing and finding solutions to the effect of non-linear distortionon the performance of a Massive Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) system interms of Spectral Efficiency (SE) and Symbol Error Rate (SER). Massive MIMO is one ofthe technologies that are considered the backbone of the 5th generation of wireless communicationsand therefore this technology has gathered much interest from researchersand companies alike [19], as it is proven that this kind of system greatly improves thecapacity of the wireless connection [8]. Since Massive MIMO is still a relatively newtechnology and it is yet to be implemented for commercial use, there are several challengesthat arise when trying to implement such a system. One of these problems arisefrom the fact that the Power Amplifiers (PAs) in the transmitters of Massive MIMO systemsare non-linear and thus impose a distortion on the transmitted signals of the system[12]. The thesis aims to study this non-linear effect on the performance of massive MIMOsystems by first modelling the distortion effect on the transmitted signals using two differentnon-linear models. Moreover, closed-form expressions for one of the models areformed to facilitate the simulation of the non-linear model and facilitate the analysis ofthe distortion effect on the performance metrics. Then the established system model issimulated and based on the results, the effect of each of the power amplifier non-lineardistortion models on the performance metrics of the Massive MIMO system is studied.Furthermore, based on the analysis of the simulation results, a compensation mechanismis introduced to the Massive MIMO system in order to mitigate the distortion effect onthe system performance in terms of SER and SE.

Stříbrné mincovnictví pozdní doby římské (od doby Arkádia a Honoria do konce 5. století našeho letopočtu) / Late Roman Silver Coinage (from Arcadius and Honorius to the end of the 5th century AD)

Gambacorta, Federico January 2014 (has links)
This PhD research has furnished the occasion to update the outdated works about Late Roman coinage focusing especially on a topic not so commonly examined like the Late Roman silver coinage. More precisely, it is analysed and discussed some of its more intriguing aspects. First of all how silver, as metal, was considered and perceived in Late Roman society and, therefore, why during fifth century AD silver bullion was used to produce fine silver objects rather than coins. Two different Late Roman customs concerning silver coinage are then reviewed: hoarding, with a list of most recent findings, and clipping. Finally a chapter is dedicated to the metrology and fineness of Late Roman silver coins together with an accurate analysis of the 7 different denominations. This extensive and deep discussion about Late Roman silver coinage's main problematics is completed by the most recent and updated catalogue of all the Late Roman silver denominations known so far. Such a review has given not only the possibility of updating or modifying some of the previous theories but also the opportunity to suggest some new ideas.

Desempenho agronômico, características morfofisiológicas e valor nutritivo da forragem de quatro genótipos de amendoim forrageiro sob corte / Agronomic performance, morphological and physiological characteristics and nutritive value of four forage peanut cultivars under cut

Aliedson Sampaio Ferreira 07 October 2014 (has links)
The diversification of pastures together with lower dependence on high energy inputs such as mineral fertilization in forage-livestock systems is a promising alternative in the development of this industry. However, the lack of information on morphological and physiological characteristics of many promising forages such as legumes limits the rational utilization and adequate management of this resource. Studies morphological, physiological, and agronomic characteristics of forage legumes are important to characterize their growth patterns as well as to describe their growth, development and production. In order to establish a basis for the use of forage peanut genotypes and to ascertain the adaptation and the potential of these materials to the southeastern conditions of Brazil, this study was devised to describe and explain the morphological, physiological, and agronomic responses as well as the sward structural characteristics, and forage nutritive value of four forage peanut (Arachis pintoi (Krapov. & W.C. Gregory) genotypes submitted to two harvest frequencies. The study was conducted in Piracicaba, São Paulo, Brazil. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 4x2 factorial design (genotypes Mandobi, Amarillo, Belmonte, and Alqueire-1, harvested every 28 or 42 days at 10 cm), with three replications, totalling 24 experimental units. Responses measured included forage yield, canopy structural attributes, including height, leaf area index, light interception and plant-part composition and nutritive value. Total warm-season forage accumulation production (5,8 Mg MS ha-1) and accumulation rate (52 kg DM ha-1 d-1) were higher under the 28-d harvest schedule. The Belmonte cultivar showed the highest yield (8,1 Mg MS ha-1) and accumulation rate (69 kg DM ha-1 d-1) of all genotypes. The mean pre-harvest LAI (4,5) and light interception (97%) did not vary in response to harvest frequency. The forage crude protein concentration was higher at 28 days (253 g kg-1) and cultivar Belmonte forage had higher concentrations (265 g kg-1) than Mandobi and Amarillo. The concentrations of neutral detergent fiber did not vary with harvest frequency and Belmonte forage had higher NDF (369 g kg-1) than Alqueire-1 (337 g kg-1). Production of leaves and petioles did not vary as a function of harvest frequency, and Belmonte had the highest yield of leaves (6,0 Mg MS ha-1) and petioles (2,6 Mg MS ha-1). Belmonte had better agronomic performance with higher light interception andLAI, resulting in higher total forage accumulation. Harvest frequency impact yield characteristics and can modify sward architecture. Plant maturity affected forage nutritive value, with the 28-d schedule resulting in better forage.,

Restaurace signálu s omezenou okamžitou hodnotou pro vícekanálový audio signál / Restoration of signals with limited instantaneous value for the multichannel audio signal

Hájek, Vojtěch January 2019 (has links)
This master’s thesis deals with the restoration of clipped multichannel audio signals based on sparse representations. First, a general theory of clipping and theory of sparse representations of audio signals is described. A short overview of existing restoration methods is part of this thesis as well. Subsequently, two declipping algorithms are introduced and are also implemented in the Matlab environment as a part of the thesis. The first one, SPADE, is considered a state- of-the-art method for mono audio signals declipping and the second one, CASCADE, which is derived from SPADE, is designed for the restoration of multichannel signals. In the last part of the thesis, both algorithms are tested and the results are compared using the objective measures SDR and PEAQ, and also using the subjective listening test MUSHRA.

Slovotvorný proces tronkace a jeho prezentace a uchopení v učebnicích francouzštiny na úrovni B1 / Word forming process of clipping and its presentation and comprehension in French textbooks at B1 level

Niedermaierová, Tereza January 2020 (has links)
Word forming process of clipping and its presentation and comprehension in French textbooks at B1 level This diploma thesis focuses on the word formation process of clipping and its presentation and seizing in French textbooks at the B1 level. The theoretical part of the work aims to describe the clipping in the context of other word forming processes and to provide basic information about this process based on the study of professional publications. This part of the work defines clipping and presents the basic typology (apocope and apheresis). Based on specific examples, the thesis describes the morphological and phonetic attributes of clipping, and also mentions specific forms of words associated with this process, such as lexical amalgams. In addition, the theoretical part mentions the words classes usually affected by clipping, the question of grammatical categories or the concept of clipping in the Czech language. The aim of the practical part is to analyse the occurence of the process of clipping in teaching at high schools, using three contemporary French textbooks at the B1 level according to CEFR. The presence or absence of the clipping process in the teaching is also analysed via questionnaire research in selected years of high school. The thesis is based on the assumption that the...
