Técnicas de clusterização baseadas em características de cor para a consulta em bancos de dados de imagens / Techniques of cluster-based features for classification of color images

Weber, Juliano Gomes 29 July 2009 (has links)
The current technologies for acquisition, storage and transmission of digital data, generate large amounts of data. This quantitative increase is directly proportional to the expansion of multimedia databases, where the bases are part of images. Factors contributing to this expansion is the generation of data access and multimedia, which are frequently used by the population through the media today. Thus, we find a clear need exists for automated systems, capable of dealing with the storage and retrieval of data in a time acceptable to the current standards. To this end, systems are designed for content retrieval of images, where the content is described through its low-level visual features such as shape, texture and color. To have such a system is considered ideal, it must be efficient and effective. The effectiveness will result from the way the information was obtained as a low level of images, considering different conditions of focus, lighting and occlusion. The efficiency is a consequence of the results obtained using the organization of information extracted. The methods of grouping are in one of the useful techniques to reduce the computational complexity of these systems, reducing the computational complexity of the methods implemented, but without losing the representation of information extracted. This work proposes a method for retrieval of images based on content, using appropriate techniques of clustering, a technique for detecting edges and a method to normalize the images in the aspect of enlightenment, to get through it the image descriptors that are robust and can be applied efficiently in a retrieval system for images by content - CBIR (Content Based Image Retrieval).

Machado, Caciano dos Santos January 2010 (has links)
The growing number of processors in parallel architectures at the top of performance rankings allows a higher processing capacity. However, it also brings an increase in the fault rate which is directly proportional to the number of processors. Nowadays, coordinated checkpoint is the most widely used rollback technique for system recovery in the occurrence of faults in MPI applications. Nevertheless, projections point that this technique will be inappropriate for the emerging architectures. On the other hand, message logging seems to be more appropriate to this new scenario. This work consists in a proposal of pessimistic message logging (remote based) with non-coordinated checkpoint and the performance evaluation of an MPI communication mechanism that works over Publish/Subscriber channels in which the proposed message logging is based. The work is organized as following: an study of fault tolerant techniques used in HPC and the motivation for choosing this variant of message logging; a message logging proposal; an implementation of Open MPI communication over OpenAMQ; performance evaluation and comparision with the tradicional TCP/IP communication and a pessimistic message logging (sender based) from Open MPI distribution. The benchmark set is composed of NetPIPE, NAS Parallel Benchmarks and Virginia Hydrodynamics (VH-1).

SCUT-DS: Methodologies for Learning in Imbalanced Data Streams

Olaitan, Olubukola January 2018 (has links)
The automation of most of our activities has led to the continuous production of data that arrive in the form of fast-arriving streams. In a supervised learning setting, instances in these streams are labeled as belonging to a particular class. When the number of classes in the data stream is more than two, such a data stream is referred to as a multi-class data stream. Multi-class imbalanced data stream describes the situation where the instance distribution of the classes is skewed, such that instances of some classes occur more frequently than others. Classes with the frequently occurring instances are referred to as the majority classes, while the classes with instances that occur less frequently are denoted as the minority classes. Classification algorithms, or supervised learning techniques, use historic instances to build models, which are then used to predict the classes of unseen instances. Multi-class imbalanced data stream classification poses a great challenge to classical classification algorithms. This is due to the fact that traditional algorithms are usually biased towards the majority classes, since they have more examples of the majority classes when building the model. These traditional algorithms yield low predictive accuracy rates for the minority instances and need to be augmented, often with some form of sampling, in order to improve their overall performances. In the literature, in both static and streaming environments, most studies focus on the binary class imbalance problem. Furthermore, research in multi-class imbalance in the data stream environment is limited. A number of researchers have proceeded by transforming a multi-class imbalanced setting into multiple binary class problems. However, such a transformation does not allow the stream to be studied in the original form and may introduce bias. The research conducted in this thesis aims to address this research gap by proposing a novel online learning methodology that combines oversampling of the minority classes with cluster-based majority class under-sampling, without decomposing the data stream into multiple binary sets. Rather, sampling involves continuously selecting a balanced number of instances across all classes for model building. Our focus is on improving the rate of correctly predicting instances of the minority classes in multi-class imbalanced data streams, through the introduction of the Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique (SMOTE) and Cluster-based Under-sampling - Data Streams (SCUT-DS) methodologies. In this work, we dynamically balance the classes by utilizing a windowing mechanism during the incremental sampling process. Our SCUT-DS algorithms are evaluated using six different types of classification techniques, followed by comparing their results against a state-of-the-art algorithm. Our contributions are tested using both synthetic and real data sets. The experimental results show that the approaches developed in this thesis yield high prediction rates of minority instances as contained in the multiple minority classes within a non-evolving stream.

Design and Implementation of a Communication Protocol to Improve Multimedia QoS and QoE in Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

Díaz Santos, Juan Ramón 05 April 2016 (has links)
[EN] This dissertation addresses the problem of multimedia delivery over multi-hop ad hoc wireless networks, and especially over wireless sensor networks. Due to their characteristics of low power consumption, low processing capacity and low memory capacity, they have major difficulties in achieving optimal quality levels demanded by end users in such communications. In the first part of this work, it has been carried out a study to determine the behavior of a variety of multimedia streams and how they are affected by the network conditions when they are transmitted over topologies formed by devices of different technologies in multi hop wireless ad hoc mode. To achieve this goal, we have performed experimental tests using a test bench, which combine the main codecs used in audio and video streaming over IP networks with different sound and video captures representing the characteristic patterns of multimedia services such as phone calls, video communications, IPTV and video on demand (VOD). With the information gathered in the laboratory, we have been able to establish the correlation between the induced changes in the physical and logical topology and the network parameters that measure the quality of service (QoS) of a multimedia transmission, such as latency, jitter or packet loss. At this stage of the investigation, a study was performed to determine the state of the art of the proposed protocols, algorithms, and practical implementations that have been explicitly developed to optimize the multimedia transmission over wireless ad hoc networks, especially in ad hoc networks using clusters of nodes distributed over a geographic area and wireless sensor networks. Next step of this research was the development of an algorithm focused on the logical organization of clusters formed by nodes capable of adapting to the circumstances of real-time traffic. The stated goal was to achieve the maximum utilization of the resources offered by the set of nodes that forms the network, allowing simultaneously sending reliably and efficiently all types of content through them, and mixing conventional IP data traffic with multimedia traffic with stringent QoS and QoE requirements. Using the information gathered in the previous phase, we have developed a network architecture that improves overall network performance and multimedia streaming. In parallel, it has been designed and programmed a communication protocol that allows implementing the proposal and testing its operation on real network infrastructures. In the last phase of this thesis we have focused our work on sending multimedia in wireless sensor networks (WSN). Based on the above results, we have adapted both the architecture and the communication protocol for this particular type of network, whose use has been growing hugely in recent years. Corrélats neuro-fonctionnels du phénomène de sortie de boucle : impacts sur le monitoring des performances / Neurofunctional correlates of the out-of-the-loop phenomenon : impacts on performance monitoring

Somon, Bertille 04 December 2018 (has links)
The ongoing technological mutations occuring in aeronautics have profoundly changed the interactions between men and machines. Systems are more and more complex, automated and opaque. Several tragedies have reminded us that the supervision of those systems by human operators is still a challenge. Particularly, evidences have been made that automation has driven the operators away from the control loop of the system thus creating an out-of-the-loop phenomenon (OOL). This phenomenon is characterized by a decrease in situation awareness and vigilance, but also complacency and over-reliance towards automated systems. These difficulties have been shown to result in a degradation of the operator’s performances. Thus, the OOL phenomenon is a major issue of today’s society to improve human-machine interactions. Even though it has been studied for several decades, the OOL is still difficult to characterize, and even more to predict. The aim of this thesis is to define how cognitive neurosciences theories, such as the performance monitoring activity, can be used in order to better characterize the OOL phenomenon and the operator’s state, particularly through physiological measures. Consequently, we have used electroencephalographic activity (EEG) to try and identify markers and/or precursors of the supervision activity during system monitoring. In a first step we evaluated the error detection or performance monitoring activity through standard laboratory tasks, with varying levels of difficulty. We performed two EEG studies allowing us to show that : (i) the performance monitoring activity emerges both for our own errors detection but also during another agent supervision, may it be a human agent or an automated system, and (ii) the performance monitoring activity is significantly decreased by increasing task difficulty. These results led us to develop another experiment to assess the brain activity associated with system supervision in an ecological environment, resembling everydaylife aeronautical system monitoring. Thanks to adapted signal processing techniques (e.g. trial-by-trial time-frequency decomposition), we were able to show that there is : (i) a fronto-central θ activité time-locked to the system’s decision similar to the one obtained in laboratory condition, (ii) a decrease in overall supervision activity time-locked to the system’s decision, and (iii) a specific decrease of monitoring activity for errors. In this thesis, several EEG measures have been used in order to adapt to the context at hand. As a perspective, we have developped a final study aiming at defining the evolution of the monitoring activity during the OOL. Finding markers of this degradation would allow to monitor its emersion, and even better, predict it.

Efficient mechanisms to provide fault tolerance in interconnection networks for pc clusters

Montañana Aliaga, José Miguel 21 July 2008 (has links)
(2008). Ravhudzulo, Anniekie Nndowiseni 05 1900 (has links)
Like so many aspects of South African society, teacher education is undergoing change. The researcher studied existing school-based in-service education and training (SBINSET) programmes in the Northern Province and to improve the programmes, proposes Continuous Self-Renewal School-Based INSET (CSR SB INSET). Based on the extensive literature survey, strategies that would improve effective educational transformation are identified. Different concepts of INSET are explained. Components of teacher education are examined as are those factors that influence educational transformation. Advantages and limitations are identified and guidance on how to overcome these are suggested. The aim of this study was to examine INSET towards educational transformation with reference to primary schools in the Northern Province in order to introduce and assess a CSR SBINSET. The study examines the existing SBINSET programmes which are run in the Northern Province. The importance of teachers' continued professional growth is emphasised throughout this study. The researcher views systematic in-service training programmes for teachers as an educational necessity for the continuing professional growth of primary school teachers. An empirical survey has been undertaken to ascertain the effectiveness of CSR SBINSET and the type of delivery strategy that may be implemented. The research considers particular aspects of classroom practice addressed in the programme. The research was guided by the following questions: + Which methods do teachers use in their subject teaching? + What are their approaches to learners and learning? + How do teachers reflect on their teaching? + What strategies do teachers use? This research aims to improve existing SBINSET programmes run in the Northern Province inter alia by observing practising teachers. CSR SBINSET attempts to improve the competencies teachers, lecturers and District Officials, through such means as the presentation of centre-based, school-based and cluster-based workshops. Although the educational authorities should take initiative to provide educational transformation, the following share responsibility in this vital aspect of education: + those in the Department of Education who are responsible for planning; + superintendents of education within districts and regions; + training institutions such as universities, technikons, colleges and private agencies.
