Development and Implementation of a DSP Based Air Detector System to Prevent Embolism During Hemodialysis Therapy

Nguyen, Nhat 04 November 2005 (has links)
This thesis describes the design of a DSP based air detector system to prevent air embolism during Hemodialysis, which is a treatment option for kidney failure disease. Hemodialysis consists of removing blood from the body, filtering and treating the blood to remove toxic substances such as wastes and fluids, reestablishing proper chemical levels in the blood and returning the processed blood to the body. The functions of hemodialysis are performed through the use of a dialyzer, which is also known as an artificial kidney. During hemodialysis small air bubbles may infiltrate the tubing used during the therapy and combine to form larger air bubbles that are harmful to the patient. If an air bubble is large enough and enters the patient's circulatory system, the blood flow can be blocked and the patient can die by embolism. Most of the hemodialysis instruments in use today are equipped with air detection systems, which are based on analog design and digital microcontroll ers. This thesis presents a design method based strictly on DSP technology. The Motorola DSP 56824EVM was considered suitable for this biomedical application since its performance parameters include high-speed, multi-signal control capability, reliability and stability. These performance parameters are considered to be the most important when designing biomedical instruments dealing with human beings' life and safety. The objective of this research was the development and implementation of a DSP algorithm for the detection and measurement of the sizes of air bubbles in a fluid. In addition the algorithm had to possess the capability, when appropriate, to initiate protective and awareness measures such as triggering a tube clamp as well as activating visual and audio alarms. The air detection was accomplished by means of a commercial air detector module, which was based on piezo ceramic and ultrasound sensing. The function of the tubing clamp was to stop the fluid flow in the tubing and prevent an air bubble from entering the patient's circulatory system. A secondary goal of this research was to exploit the capability of the DSP 56824EVM and demonstrate its suitability for biomedical applications.

Laboratorní úlohy pro mikrokontrolér ColdFire MCF52233 / Laboratory assignments for microcontroller ColdFire MCF52233

Dyčka, Ondřej January 2010 (has links)
This master’s thesis contains design of practice exercises for microcontroller MCF52233 firm Freescale. Exercises are focused on working with basic peripheries as counters and timers, measurement with A/D converters, PWM modulation or I2C bus. Exercises are interested in evaluation of matrix keyboard and communication with alphanumeric display controller. To these exercises is made a preparation of external peripherals, which is connected with evaluation kit M52233DEMO. This preparation contains all necessary peripheries, which are used for practice exercises – buttons, LED diodes, potentiometer and I2C periphery. Individual periphery usually shares connection to microcontroller with another periphery. Therefore preparation contains switches, which are necessary to set up for correct functionality of the peripherals. The board of external peripheral also includes ports for connecting matrix keyboards and alphanumeric display. Connecting the display requires an external power supply. Work deals with implementation of laboratory exercises using a software firm Freescale. Development environment for programming and basic debugging is in program CodeWarrior. More advanced possibility of reading information from a running program in the microcontroller offers program FreeMaster, which is used in the exercise of AD converters. Each lab exercise contains an introduction, task, instructions and the flowchart of realized exercise. Instructions are written so that it contains important steps to properly manage assignments. Individual exercises are designed to gradually increasing complexity of exercises students obtain basic programming habits and manage the complex exercise.

Development of a Generic PDA Based Control Mechanism for in-house Fabricated Miniature Sensors

Kedia, Sunny 19 November 2004 (has links)
A novel method of controlling miniature sensors using Handspring Visor Prism PDA has been implemented. A generic motherboard was developed to map the data and address lines from the Visor onto a Complex Programmable Logic Device (CPLD) to provide basic electrical signals to the sensor board. The sensor board housed the sensor and contained application specific circuitry. The PDA, the motherboard, and the sensor board completed the control mechanism for the sensor. Miniature sensors and PDA based control mechanism scaled down the size of the complete system making the unit portable. This unit facilitated a faster analysis of data on field. Two applications were targeted: Flurometer (bio-sensor) and Corner Cube Retroreflector (CCR-optical sensor for communication). A sensor board was developed to control a thermally regulated fluorometer undergoing the Nuclei Acid Synthesis Based Amplification (NASBA) process, which detected the fluorescence from the solution containing target RNA. NASBA runs were conducted using solution containing K. brevis- Red tide organisms to validate the interface of the PDA with a fluorometer. Real time fluorescence plot over time was obtained on the PDA indicating presence/absence of the target RNA; thus, it successfully interfaced the PDA with the fluorometer. Additionally, a sensor board was developed to control the electrostatic actuation mechanism of the MEMS based CCR. Efforts were made to fabricate the vertical mirrors of CCR using wet and dry fabrication techniques.

Návrh řídicí desky pro BLDC motor / Design of control board for BLDC motor

Zbranek, Petr January 2014 (has links)
In the context of this master’s thesis are solved algorithms and hardware for control BLDC motor. The first was designed algorithm in LabView called "six-step". This algorithm causes a torque ripple, so in the final version was used vector control. It is a sensor control, so was necessary to design a measurement of rotor position. It was solved using a magnetic position sensor. After testing the control algorithm was designed my own hardware for control the BLDC motor. The main control unit was chosen microprocessor MC56F82743, which is designed specifically for BLDC motor control. The microprocessor was programmed in the CodeWarrior development environment, using a JTAF and USB-TAP.

Monitorování parametrů prostředí v budovách / Monitoring of environmental parameters in buldings

Slovák, Martin January 2010 (has links)
Aim of work is project system for monitoring environmental parameters in buildings. Theoretical part of work deals with parameters, which will be monitoring, why we measure those parameters in buildings. And what devices can we choose to do it. Measurement channel describes from change of physical value to electric value, after that there is a correction to processing by microcontroller. And those values are sending by microcontroller to other processing. The best solution to distant transmission is probably ZigBee technology. Practice part of work is in keeping with theoretical part. There are some practical sensor connections, where is difference in output of sensor. It’s necessary to project connections of sensor and do their software services. There is a simple tool to programming microcontrollers, which is called CodeWarrior. In last part is solution of algorithm, which make net by ZigBee technology.

Měření vzdálenosti pomocí technologie ZigBee / Distance measurement by ZigBee technology

Čepl, Josef January 2010 (has links)
The master's thesis deals with problems which is associated with rough detection of distance between wireless modules based on ZigBee technology. In the first logical part it theoretically describes this technology and their characteristics. This section gives basic informations needed to understand the operation of wireless communications and also acquaint him with some of the terms from this sphere. Next thing is description of the medium access together with a detailed description of functions that are crucial for deter-mining the signal strength. The second part is devoted to describe the 1321XDSK-BDM development kit. Another section is devoted to the design of the user's interface for displaying measured data. It consists of a theoretical design, which describes the initial vision of the device accompanied by solution of communication between wireless module and the proposed device. Follows the design of the involvement in Eagle software and explanation of the various components. In the last two chapters of the whole logical structure is described construction of the device and simple user's guide. The following chapter talks about the selection of suited application, necessary changes and own implementation of source code. There is even a description of important features and components of the application. The penultimate chapter contains a distance measurement in terrain using wireless modules and designed device. Here are tested different influences on the final distance measurement accuracy. In conclusion there is a debate over the results achieved. Particular, this section includes an assessment of precision measuring methods and evaluates aplicability of this method in practice.
