Identifying communications of running programs through their assembly level execution tracesHuang, Huihui 28 May 2018 (has links)
Understanding the communications between programs can help software security engineers understand the behaviour of a system and detect vulnerabilities in a system. Assembly-level execution traces are used for this purpose for two reasons: 1) lack of source code of the running programs, and 2) assembly-level execution traces provide the most accurate run-time behaviour information. In this thesis, I present a communication analysis approach using such execution traces. I first model the message based communication in the context of trace analysis. Then I develop a method and the necessary algorithms to identify communications from a dual trace which consist of two assembly level execution traces. A prototype is developed for communication analysis.
Finally, I conducted two experiments for communication analysis of interacting programs.
These two experiments show the usefulness of the designed communication analysis approach, the developed algorithms and the implemented prototype. / Graduate / 2019-05-11

The aim of this thesis is to highlight the important aspects in internal company relationships focusing on corporate culture and internal communication. The theoretical terms such as information, communication, motivation, work motivation, organizational culture, domestic corporate communications and their interrelationships are described in the introductory part. The background and knowledge of the theoretical parts are used in the analysis of two specific companies (the first is a Czech middle-sized company with a long tradition and the other is the Czech branch of multinational pharmaceutical corporation) in the practical part. Data were collected by questionnaire, supplemented by personal interviews with staff and management of both companies. Data were evaluated according to several criteria, mostly according to corporate nationality and job title (ordinary employee, manager, top manager). The analysis found many failures in internal communication in both companies, especially in communicating with ordinary employees. Comparing the two companies showed that the level of internal communication in the Czech company is at significantly lower level than in a company with a strong foreign background. Based on the results of analysis and knowledge of internal communication issues were the two companies at the end of the analysis provided with the concrete measures to improve their corporate culture through internal communication. Overall, the results of the practical part indicated that the corporate culture and internal communication are still underestimated in the environment of Czech firms and at a lower level in comparison with foreign companies.

This study explores human-robot interaction during a 16-hour high-fidelity Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) disaster response drill with teleoperated robots. Situation awareness and team interaction were examined using communication analysis. Operators (n=5) sought assistance from team members to compensate for difficulties building or maintaining situation awareness. Operator-team member communication focused on relating what was seen through the robot's eye view with prior knowledge and planning search strategies. Results suggest operators need a new cognitive mental model to filter and comprehend data provided by the robot, and that robot-assisted search is a team task rather than an individual one. USAR technical search teams need a new shared mental model of robot-assisted search in order to coordinate activities effectively.

While communication audits have been used for the past 50 years by practitioners and scholars alike to evaluate the effectiveness of both external and internal communications, this particular analysis will explore the internal communications of a business-to-business sales division within a major U.S. credit reporting agency. Using Goldhaber’s (2002) method for administering Web-based communication surveys and a combination of Downs & Hazen’s (1977) Communication Satisfaction Questionnaire and Gayeski’s (2000) Information Systems Analysis, this study will assess how the salesperson’s satisfaction of the company’s electronic sales communications relates to perceived productivity.

It has long been established that “communication is of fundamental importance in the operation of all organizations, and a knowledge of the efficiency of the general communication system is vital to achieve high levels of organizational effectiveness” (Greenbaum, Clampitt, & Willihnganz, 1988, p. 245). With this in mind, over the past forty years many organizations have turned to communication audits to identify strategies to improve their organizations’ communication practices. One such organization is the State Bar of Georgia. Using Downs and Hazen’s (1977) Communication Satisfaction Questionnaire, this study assessed the health/effectiveness of the Bar’s formal and informal communication channels, identified problems and made recommendations for improvement. In addition to gaining a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the Bar’s existing communication channels, the audit showed how communication practices at the Bar relate to employee job satisfaction.

Understanding Team Cognition through Communication Analysis: Measuring Team Interaction Patterns Using Recurrence PlotsJanuary 2012 (has links)
abstract: By extracting communication sequences from audio data collected during two separate five-person mission-planning tasks, interaction patterns in team communication were analyzed using a recurrence-based, nonlinear dynamics approach. These methods, previously successful in detecting pattern change in a three-person team task, were evaluated for their applicability to larger team settings, and their ability to detect pattern change when team members switched roles or locations partway through the study (Study 1) or change in patterns over time (Study 2). Both traditional interaction variables (Talking Time, Co-Talking Time, and Sequence Length of Interactions) and dynamic interaction variables (Recurrence Rate, Determinism, and Pattern Information) were explored as indicators and predictors of changes in team structure and performance. Results from these analyses provided support that both traditional and dynamic interaction variables reflect some changes in team structure and performance. However, changes in communication patterns were not detected. Because simultaneous conversations are possible in larger teams, but not detectable through our communication sequence methods, team pattern changes may not be visible in communication sequences for larger teams. This suggests that these methods may not be applicable for larger teams, or in situations where simultaneous conversations may occur. Mutual communication is one of the fundamental elements of human society. Its development has been enabled by sharing of sources and knowledge. Nowadays, information is considered to be one of the "production sources", some people regard it to be the most important one. Without the necessary information no company can succeed. Not only gaining of information is important, but also its spreading inside the company. Internal communication departments are in charge of these issues. The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyze internal communication of the company Johnson Controls International ltd., specifically in its Czech subsidiary (in the department of building maintenance), to identify the weak points of the internal communication and to suggest possible solutions. The thesis also aims to compare the practical functioning of the company's internal communication to the theory. The theoretical part of this thesis describes the company's internal communication and the IT communication means used. The practical part introduces the company and subsequently shows how its internal communication works including the description of the IT communication means used. The thesis also evaluates the current state of communication within the company, provides a comparison to theoretical bases and problem identification. Solutions of these problems are offered in the final part of this thesis.

It also touches options of measuring and evaluating efficiency of these instruments. Further on, it describes specifics of online marketing in perspective of local markets. It elaborates on channels used to access company's website and make conversions. It also offers in-depth evaluation of online advertising and activities on social medias.
