Wang, Tsung-chi 10 July 2006 (has links)
In manufacturing, resource planners are relied on how to allocate in-house production and outsourcing; how to plan the flexibility for customers¡¦ demand fluctuation; how to optimize capacity allocation under customers¡¦ satisfaction. Harvard professor, David McClelland brought up the concept of competence in the early 1970¡¦s. He claimed that the motive power of good performance mostly came from deep, personal motives and character, rather than from IQ. Therefore this research focuses on understanding which competences a good resource planner should have. This research summarized a total of 15 competences that resource planners should have based on literature and case studies. Those 15 competences are achievement-orientation, impact and influence, analytical thinking, initiative, self-confidence, interpersonal relationship, teamwork, conceptual thinking, specialized knowledge, care order and quality, customer-orientation, self-control, information collection, English ability, and the ability to communicate with management team. Among those 15 competences, 7 competences are critical ones to foresee good performance. Those 7 competences are achievement-orientation, impact and influence, initiative, conceptual thinking, care order and quality, customer-orientation, information collection. The others competences, analytical thinking, self-confidence, interpersonal relationship, teamwork, specialized knowledge, self-control, English ability, and the ability to communicate with management team, are threshold competences for resource planners. This research results can be applied to selection in human resource management. It is also valuable for companies, which are in the same industry as the company in case study to use as a reference.

Application the Resource-Based Theory to the Strategy and the Competitive Advantage: The Kaoshiung Port

Hui, Chen-Chin 09 February 2001 (has links)
Abstract This study, based on the strategic analysis of resource-based theory, and a systemic framework of port strategy, is planed by cooperating resources, businesses, organization, coordination and control. In a great corporate strategy, all of these elements are aligned with one other. That alignment is driven by the nature of the firm¡¦s resources. The firm¡¦s resources are the unifying thread and, ultimately, determine the others (Collis & Montgomery, 1998). Which to analyze Kaohsiung Port strategy gathered data from deep interview and second-hand materials. According to the survey, we judged the five elements of Kaohsiung Port to be ;the general nature of resources; the narrow scope of businesses; the large corporate office size; the transferring style of coordination mechanism; and the financial control system. Thus, we suggest that the port enlarge the scope of businesses, reduce the size of corporate offices, and to revise the financial ¡]result¡^control system. These will make each element fit with its nature of resources, improve the consistency of each element, and create a synergy of strategy.

The relation between extracurricular activities with academic and social competencies in school age children: a meta-analysis

Lewis, Charla P. 01 November 2005 (has links)
There has been a growing discussion in the fields of education and psychology about the relationship between social skill proficiency and academic excellence. However, the presence of extracurricular involvement as promoting both academic and social development has not been thoroughly explored. The most recent literature syntheses and meta-analyses on extracurricular activity participation were conducted in the 1980??s. An updated review and quantitative look at the participation literature is due. The purpose of this study is to integrate participation studies from the 1990s and give summative information as to the impact of extracurricular activity participation on various educational and psycho-social characteristics. Of the 164 identified studies, 41 were included in these meta-analyses. The current analyses produced 6 different activity categories: general extracurricular activity, sports, work and vocational activities, performing arts, pro-social activities, and community-based activities. The current meta-analyses suggest student outcomes were significantly related to general extracurricular activity and pro-social activity participation. General activities and pro-social activities had the most impact on academic achievement, while performing arts and pro-social activities?? participants reported the largest effect on identity and self esteem related outcomes. Sports and related activities (i.e. Cheerleading) were not as strongly linked to academic achievement indicators as anticipated and student workers had more negative outcomes than any other activity participants. In conclusion, the best outcomes for children and adolescents are brought about through well-built, developmentally appropriate structured activities. Moreover, the academic and social profits of extracurricular activities that have been examined in this study can be used to inform program planning and implementation.

This study discovered that trust does have obvious impact on readers¡¦ trust related behaviors. Nevertheless, exclude integrity doesn¡¦t have significant impact on readers¡¦ recommendation behavior, the other constructors all have different importance in different blog categories. Competence is the most important constructor, but its influence is smaller than the negative impact of benevolence in master blog type. Benevolence has significant negative impact, especially in blogs which evaluate personal style.
