Detecção de dano em estruturas via inteligência computacional e análise dinâmica / Structural damage detection by means of computational intelligence techniques and dynamic analysisJesús Daniel Villalba Morales 29 November 2012 (has links)
This research aims at studying how to solve the damage detection problem by using computational intelligence techniques and the dynamic response of the structure. Two different ways for formulating the solution to the problem are implemented. In first place, an optimization problem is formulated as the minimization of the difference between the experimental dynamic parameters for the current structure and those from a finite element model that represent the damaged condition. Several metaheuristics (genetic algorithms, particle swarm optimization and differential evolution) are used to solve the optimization problem, where most of them present adaptive configurations. The implication of a multi-objective approach is also studied. A new scheme to determine the algorithm´s performance is proposed, which computes three error indicators concerning differences between the real and computed damage extents and the presence of false-positives and false-negatives. In second place, artificial neural networks are used to determine the mapping between the experimental dynamic parameters and either the damage extension (quantification) or the damage position (localization). Different damage scenarios were simulated in beam and truss structures to verify the performance of the proposed methodologies. Results show the ability of computational intelligence techniques to detect damage scenarios with a few damaged elements; however, it is not possible to guarantee a 100% of success. It is suggested to use local search techniques to improve the solution found by the different proposed algorithms. Three main conclusions are the followings: i) it is necessary to determine the minimum quantity of modal data that permits guarantying a reliable damage detection, ii) objective functions plays a very important role to the success of the algorithms and iii) noise prejudice the damage identification process.

In lightweight aggregate concrete, the compressive strength, the elastic modulus and specific weight are the most important properties and consequently the most commonly analyzed. The relationship between lightweight aggregate concrete components and their mechanical properties is highly nonlinear, and establishing a comprehensive predictive model of such characteristics is usually problematic. There are works that seek to find this relation of empirical forms. There are also works that seek to apply computational intelligence techniques to predict these properties from the concrete components. Accurately predicting the mechanical properties of lightweight aggregate concrete is a critical problem in engineering projects that use this material. The objective of this dissertation is to evaluate the performance of different computational intelligence methods to predict the elastic modulus and the compressive strength at 28 days of lightweight aggregates concrete as a function of water/cement factor, lightweight aggregate volume, cement quantity and density of the lightweight aggregate. In order to choose the best configuration of each method, a methodology was defined using the Particle Swarm Optmization (PSO) algorithm. Finally, the generalization of the methods through the cross validation process is verified in order to find the method that presents the best performance in the approximation of the two mechanical properties.

Human movements recognition using an accelerometer and computational intelligence.Fernando Ginez da Silva 19 November 2013 (has links)
Nowadays it is observed a growing interest and demand for new sensing technologies and interaction. Monitoring with the objective of recognizing human movements, allows us to offer personalized services in different areas, among them healthcare. This monitoring can be performed through the use of different techniques such as the use of video cameras, living environment instrumentation, or the use of personal devices attached to the body, also known as wearable devices. These wearable devices have some advantages such as low cost, comfortable to use, and are often unnoticed by the user, reducing the feeling of privacy invasion during the monitoring. In addition, the sensing device can be easily attached to the body by the user itself, making its use effective. Thus, this work presents the development of a system that uses computational intelligence techniques and an accelerometer which is easily attached to the users wrist to perform, in a comfortable and non-invasive manner, the recognition of basic movements of a persons routine. By applying support vector machines to classify the signals and Fishers discriminant ratio to select the most significant features, the system has shown a success rate of 93% in the recognition of basic movements performed by monitored individuals. The system has the potential to be integrated into a low-cost embedded hardware, which is responsible for managing the data acquisition and routing the movement data to a remote monitoring system or storage. The information provided by the system can be designed to promote the health and wellness of the individual, as well used in diagnostics or remote patient monitoring in an ambient assisted living (AAL).

assim a análise seja concluída rapidamente.
Predictive models of heterogeneities distribution and quality in hydrocarbon reservoirs
are of fundamental importance for exploration and production optimization of oil and
gas fields. The heterogeneities are determined by the different sedimentary petrofacies,
a set of petrographic characteristics that specifies a group of rocks. The identification
and classification of petrofacies is usually a time consuming procedure, and the use of
computational methods can reduce the time and effort spent in the analysis. Recently,
techniques derived from the computational intelligence research area have been used to
assist in making decisions experts in several problems in Geosciences. The purpose of this
dissertation is evaluating the performance of different techniques based on computational
intelligence to predict the classification of petrographic samples belonging to the same
sedimentary basin. A computational framework was developed to classify petrofacies
according to their constituents. The data was collected from three different sources.
The first database is formed by thin sections of Tibagi region (PR). The second by thin
sections of Dom Aquino region (MS). Such thin sections are for a lithostratigraphic unit
formalized in the Paraná Basin as Member Tibagi. The third by thin sections from
the two previous databases. The fourth database is a set of thin sections from Mucuri
member of the Espírito Santo sedimentary basin. The proposed method involves the use
of classifiers, cross validation, dimensionality reduction, feature selection and the use of
ensemble of constituents. The parameters involved in adjusting methods were determined
by an exhaustive search procedure with cross-validation and classification metrics were
used to evaluate and compare the results. The presented methodology evaluates the
performance of several computational intelligence techniques, and arises as an alternative
to assist the geologist in the determination and characterization of petrofacies, helping to
reduce the effort in the process of individualization.

[en] WORD SENSE DESAMBIGUATION IN TEXT MINING / [pt] DESAMBIGUAÇÃO DE SENTIDO DE PALAVRAS DIRIGIDA POR TÉCNICAS DE AGRUPAMENTO SOB O ENFOQUE DA MINERAÇÃO DE TEXTOSROBERTO MIRANDA GOMES 10 September 2009 (has links)
[en] This dissertation investigated the application of text mining process from
techniques of computing intelligence and machine learning in the problem of
word sense ambiguity. The work in the methods of decision support area aimed to
develop techniques capable of doing a word meaning disambiguation
automatically and also to construct a prototype based on the application of such
techniques. Special attention was given to the process of ambiguity detection and,
for this reason, a differentiated approach was used. Unlikely the most common
type of disambiguation, in which the machine is trained to do it in determined
terms, the present work aimed to address the ambiguity problem without the need
of knowing the meaning of the term used, and thus, to make the system more
robust and generic. In order to achieve that, specific heurists were developed
based on computing intelligence techniques. The semantic criteria used to identify
the ambiguous terms were extracted from grouping techniques employed in lexis
built after some term normalization process.

Condition monitoring of transformer’s bushings using computational intelligenceMaumela, Joshua Tshifhiwa 16 April 2014 (has links)
M.Ing. (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) / Dissolved Gas-in-oil analysis (DGA) is used to monitor the condition of bushings on large power transformers. There are different techniques used in determining the conditions from the data collected, but in this work the Artificial Intelligence techniques are investigated. This work investigates which gases in DGA are related to each other and which ones are important for making decisions. When the related and crucial gases are determined, the other gases are discarded thereby reducing the number of attributes in DGA. Hence a further investigation is done to see how these new datasets influence the performance of the classifiers used to classify the DGA of full attributes. The classifiers used in these experiments were Backpropagation Neural Networks (BPNN) and Support Vector Machines (SVM) whereas the Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Rough Set (RS), Incremental Granular Ranking (GR++) and Decision Trees (DT) were used to reduce the attributes of the dataset. The parameters used when training the BPNN and SVM classifiers are kept fixed to create a controlled test environment when investigating the effects of reducing the number of gases. This work further introduced a new classifier that can handle high dimension dataset and noisy dataset, Rough Neural Network (RNN). This classifier was tested when trained using the full dataset and how it is affected by reducing the number of gases used to train it. The results in these experiments showed that ethane and total combustible gases attributes are core attributes chosen by the four algorithms as gases needed for decision making. The average results of the classification performance showed that the reduction of attributes helps improve the performance of classifiers. Hence the science of transformer condition monitoring can be derived from studying the relations and patterns created by the different gases attributes in DGA. This statement is supported by the classification improvements where the RNN classifier had 99.7% classification accuracy when trained using the three attributes determined by the PCA.

Economic modelling using computational intelligence techniquesKhoza, Msizi Smiso 09 December 2013 (has links)
M.Ing. ( Electrical & Electronic Engineering Science) / Economic modelling tools have gained popularity in recent years due to the increasing need for greater knowledge to assist policy makers and economists. A number of computational intelligence approaches have been proposed for economic modelling. Most of these approaches focus on the accuracy of prediction and not much research has been allocated to investigate the interpretability of the decisions derived from these systems. This work proposes the use of computational intelligence techniques (Rough set theory (RST) and the Multi-layer perceptron (MLP) model) to model the South African economy. RST is a rule-based technique suitable for analysing vague, uncertain and imprecise data. RST extracts rules from the data to model the system. These rules are used for prediction and interpreting the decision process. The lesser the number of rules, the easier it is to interpret the model. The performance of the RST is dependent on the discretization technique employed. An equal frequency bin (EFB), Boolean reasoning (BR), entropy partition (EP) and the Naïve algorithm (NA) are used to develop an RST model. The model trained using EFB data performs better than the models trained using BR and EP. RST was used to model South Africa’s financial sector. Here, accuracy of 86.8%, 57.7%, 64.5% and 43% were achieved for EFB, BR, EP and NA respectively. This work also proposes an ensemble of rough set theory and the multi-layer perceptron model to model the South African economy wherein, a prediction of the direction of the gross domestic product is presented. This work also proposes the use of an auto-associative Neural Network to impute missing economic data. The auto-associative neural network imputed the ten variables or attributes that were used in the prediction model. These variables were: Construction contractors rating lack of skilled labour as constraint, Tertiary economic sector contribution to GDP, Income velocity of circulation of money, Total manufacturing production volume, Manufacturing firms rating lack of skilled labour as constraint, Total asset value of banking industry, Nominal unit labour cost, Total mass of Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) mined, Total revenue from sale of PGMs and the Gross Domestic Expenditure (GDE). The level of imputation accuracy achieved varied with the attribute. The accuracy ranged from 85.9% to 98.7%.
