Robô agrícola móvel (RAM): uma arquitetura baseada em comportamentos hierárquicos e difusos para sistemas autônomos de guiagem e navegação / Agricultural mobile robot (MAR): an architecture based on hierarchical and fuzzy behaviors for autonomous systems of guidance and navigationRafael Vieira de Sousa 10 August 2007 (has links)
Positive advances on AVV (Agricultural Autonomous Vehicle) and MAR (Mobile Agricultural Robot) research are noticed in recent years. However, a limited number of works have proposed reliable systems based on a robotic architectures that are able to perform multiple and independent operations, as well as to self-adapt under changing environmental conditions in the field. In other hand, in other research areas a considerable number of behavior-based architectures have been proposed for mobile robot for autonomous guidance and navigation in unstructured and/or in unexplored environments. At this work, a robotic behavior-based architecture is developed for guidance and navigation of AAV and MAR. Fuzzy rules are used to compose and coordinate the primitive and the complex behaviors. The development includes: the implementation and the simulation of the proposed architecture on a mini-robot; the evaluation and characterization of sensors for the perceptive module of the architecture; and the application of an analysis method based on a mathematical model to assist the composition of a digital communication networks based on the CAN protocol for robot control systems. Experiments have been performed to evaluate the implemented behaviors and to evaluate the operation ability of the robotic platform on a simulated agricultural environment. The results show the feasibility of the proposed approach. The modularity of the architecture by using decentralized fuzzy controllers simplifies the implementation of the robotic architecture. The fuzzy arbitration process is an easy and a feasible method to implement the behavior coordination and to compose complex behaviors. The sensors evaluation and characterization, in particular of an ultrasonic sensor, have allowed establishing operational conditions for using them in AAV or in a MAR. The application of the network mathematical model has allowed the performance analysis of the CAN-based networks under differentiated equipment and configuration parameters for applications in a MAR.

Irrigation is an agricultural practice that leads to high crop production, however the success of this practice depends largely on correct computation of the timing of the application to avoid excessive or deficit application. Thus, the use of moisture sensors, such as capacitive sensors for determining soil moisture combined with artificial neural networks (ANNs) to calculate irrigation time can be a promising tool for automation of irrigation systems. The objective of this work was to develop an ANN that estimate the irrigation time and to contrast the results with the management based on a volume balance method on a watermelon field. Multilayer perceptron types of ANNs were tested. For ANNs training, data obtained in previous harvest were used. The watermelon field was located in Baixo Acaraà Irrigation District in Cearà State â Brazil, where soil moisture was determined using capacitive sensors developed at the Universidade Federal do Cearà (UFC). Networks were tested for two growing stages. The first stage spanning from 0 to the 30th day after seeding (DAS) and the second stage from the 31st to 60th DAS at harvesting. Networks were tested with 2 and 4 inputs, with 5, 10 and 20 neurons in the intermediate layer (NIL) and 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 epochs. Upon training, the artificial neural networks were field-tested for validation by comparing their responses to the volumetric water balance method (VWBM) for the second stage an succeeding crop cycle. It was found that networks with four entries presented the largest mean square error, converging rapidly to values close to zero, compared the networks with two entries. For the NIL, it was not found significant difference in the mean square error between all 3 tested architectures, therefore it was not necessary to test networks larger than 5 NIL for this application. For the number of training epochs, the one with the best fit values were networks with 10,000 epochs for the first stage of the crop cycle, and 5,000 epochs for the second stage of the crop cycle. It was found no statistical difference in watermelon yield between the two irrigation timing strategies tested (ANN and VWBM). Therefore the artificial neural network was efficient in irrigation management in the field even though the network was presented to some values not occurring during the training process. Thus, one can conclude that the ANN for best performance was a 4-5-1 with learning rate 0.9, and 10000 and 5000 training epochs, respectively in the first and second crop stage. In addition, it was found that the network successfully scheduled the irrigation during the validation process.

Tanto as características modais quanto indicadores estatísticos
A eficiência
Structural damage detection using dynamic measurements has led to the development
of several techniques in the last decades. Most of these methods associate variations of
natural frequencies, mode shapes and damping ratios to damage, like the Modal Assurance
Criterion (MAC), methods based on strain energy deviation, methods based on curvature
mode shapes, flexibility matrix analysis, among others. Although these aforementioned
techniques are mostly efficient to identify structural alterations in numerical models,
they have difficulties in practical applications with experimental data. Thus, approaches
involving computational intelligence to identify structural damage can be a promising field
of research. This work evaluates the Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Support Vector
Machine (SVM) to detect structural changes based on evolution of dynamic responses.
The modal characteristics and statistical indicators extracted directly from raw dynamic
measurements are used as inputs to computational intelligence models. Furthermore,
a new methodology based on the time history of natural frequencies and temperature
records is presented. The technique consists in detecting structural changes and when
they occur by using a SVM algorithm. The efficiency of the proposed methodology is
analyzed through data from a numerical model of a supported beam and from a continuous
monitoring of the Gabbia Tower, in Italy.

[en] USE OF ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS IN THE RECOGNITION OF BI-DIMENSION IMAGES / [pt] REDES NEURAIS APLICADAS AO RECONHECIMENTO DE IMAGENS BI-DIMENSIONAISGUY PERELMUTER 05 July 2006 (has links)
[pt] Esta dissertação investiga a aplicação de Redes Neurais
Artificiais no reconhecimento de imagens bi-dimensionais. O
realizar a classificação.
No sistema SimpleNet, o
Propagation e Competitivas. O sistema XVision apresentou
resultados promissores para dois conjuntos distintos de
objetos bi-dimensionais: o primeiro composto por peças
mecânicas e o segundo por objetos triviais. As amostras
Desta forma
foram detectados os garagalos dos sistemas, facilitando
assim sua otimização. / [en] This work investigates the use of Artificial Neural
Networks in the recognition of bi-dimensional images. The
work was divided in four main parts: a survey on the
importance of Computational Vision and on the benefits of
the application of intelligent techniques in the fiels; a
survey on the structure of image recognition systems found
in the literature; the development of two image recognition
systems based on neural networks; and an analysis of the
performance of the developed systems.
Computational Vision has benefited from the main
Computational Intelligence techniques (neural networks,
genetic algoritms and fuzzy logic) to implement image
recognition systems. In this work, the usage of different
Kinds of neural networks in image classification was
studied: Back-Propagation, Competitive, RBF and
Hierarchical. Besiades that, a survey on the fields of
application of Computational Vision was made.
The basic structure is typically composed of three modules:
a pre-processor, a characteristics extractor and a
classifier.
In this work, two image recognition systems, called Xvision
and SimpleNet, were developed. The XVision system follows
the structure described above, while the SimpleNet system
performs the classification using the information present
in the raw picture.
The pre-processing module of the Xvision system executes a
series of transforms over the image, extracting its
essential characteristics so that an invariant
representation of the image can be obtained. This pre-
processor is based on a previous work in the fiels of
Signal Processing.
The characteristcs extractor aims to detect the most
relevant information present in the image representation
obtained after the previous step. Two kinds of extractors
were investigated: one based on statistical tecniques
(applyng the Fisher`s discriminant) and another based on
intelligent techniques (applyng genetic algorithms).
The classification module was implementede through several
Kinds of neural networks: Back-Propagation, Competitive,
RBF and Hierarchical.
The pre-processing of the SimpleNet system simply reduces
the image`s dimensions. Since the image`s pixels are used
for the classification process, no characteristics
extractor module was implemented. In the classification
module, Back-Propagation and Competitive neural networks
were employed.
The Xvision system yielded promising results for two sets
of objects: the first one composed of mechanical parts and
the second one composed of trivial objects. The samples
used during the tests presented different characteristics
from those samples used during the training process - not
only rotated, translated and scaled, but also with
structural differences. The classifier obtained a hit ratio
above 83% with both sets. The SimpleNet system also showed
a good performance in the differentiation of similar
objects (telephone cards and X-rays of lungs), achieving
hit ratios of more than 80%.
The development of both systems demonstrated the viability
of the use of neural networks in the classification of bi-
dimensional objects. Due to the interest of applying Vision
systems in real-time, the time spent in the recognition
process was measured. This allowed the detection of the
systems` bottlenecks, making their optimization easier.

A rough set approach to bushings fault detectionMpanza, Lindokuhle Justice 06 June 2012 (has links)
M. Ing. / Fault detection tools have gained popularity in recent years due to the increasing need for reliable and predictable equipments. Transformer bushings account for the majority of transformer faults. Hence, to uphold the integrity of the power transmission and dis- tribution system, a tool to detect and identify faults in their developing stage is necessary in transformer bushings. Among the numerous tools for bushings monitoring, dissolved gas analysis (DGA) is the most commonly used. The advances in DGA and data storage capabilities have resulted in large amount of data and ultimately, the data analysis crisis. Consequent to that, computational intelligence methods have advanced to deal with this data analysis problem and help in the decision-making process. Numerous computational intelligence approaches have been proposed for bushing fault detection. Most of these approaches focus on the accuracy of prediction and not much research has been allocated to investigate the interpretability of the decisions derived from these systems. This work proposes a rough set theory (RST) model for bushing fault detection based on DGA data analyzed using the IEEEc57.104 and the IEC 60599 standards. RST is a rule-based technique suitable for analyzing vague, uncertain and imprecise data. RST extracts rules from the data to model the system. These rules are used for prediction and interpreting the decision process. The lesser the number of rules, the easier it is to interpret the model. The performance of the RST is dependent on the discretization technique employed. An equal frequency bin (EFB), Boolean reasoning (BR) and entropy partition (EP) are used to develop an RST model. The model trained using EFB data performs better than the models trained using BR and EP. The accuracy achieved is 96.4%, 96.0% and 91.3% for EFB, BR and EP respectively. This work also pro poses an ant colony optimization (ACO) for discretization. A model created using ACO discretized achieved an accuracy of 96.1%, which is compatible with the three methods above. When considering the overall performance, the ACO is a better discretization tool since it produces an accurate model with the least number of rules. The rough set tool proposed in this work is benchmarked against a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) and radial basis function (RBF) neural networks. Results prove that RST modeling for bushing is equally as capable as the MLP and better than RBF. The RST, MLP and RBF are used in an ensemble of classifiers. The ensemble performs better than the standalone models.

[pt] Esta tese investiga a Nanotecnologia Computacional Inteligente, isto é, o apoio
resultados experimentais e baixos erros percentuais (inferior a 10%).
[en] This thesis investigates the Intelligent Computational Nanotechnology, that is, the

line of inquiry, the Genetic Algorithms are used for the base functions optimization
used in ab initio calculations. In that case, the exponents of the Gaussian functions
that compose the base functions are optimized. In another approach, the Genetic Algorithms
are applied in the optimization of molecular and atomic clusters, allowing
the researchers to theoretically study the experimentally formed clusters. Finally,
the use of these algorithms, use together with simulators, is applied in the automatic
synthesis of OLEDs and circuits of Quantum Dots Cellular Automata (QCA). This
research revealed the potential of the CI in innovative applications. The hybrid systems
of optimization and inference, for example, conceived to foresee the height, the
density and the height deviation of self-assembled quantum dots, present high levels
of correlation with the experimental results and low percentage errors (lower to
10%). The Young’s module of nanocomposites is also predicted by a similar system
and presents percentage errors even smaller, around 4%. The Genetic Algorithms,
jointly with the package of molecular modeling Gaussian03, optimize the parameters
of functions that generate exponents of primitive Gaussian functions of base
sets for hartree-fock calculations, obtaining smaller energies than those presented
in the literature. In another application, the Genetic Algorithms are also efficient in
the search by the low energy geometries of the atomic clusters of (LiF) nLi +, (LiF)
n and (LiF) nF-, obtaining a set of new isomers yet not propose in the literature. A
similar methodology is applied in an unpublished system for understand the formation
of molecular cluster of ionic H2O from neutral clusters. The results show how
the clusters can be obtained from different perspectives, forming structures not yet
investigate in the scientific area. This work also presents the automatic synthesis of
robust QCA circuits. The circuits obtained present high polarization, similar to those
proposed by the specialists, but with an important reduction in the quantity of cells. Finally, a system involving Genetic Algorithms and an analytic model of multilayer
OLEDs optimize the concentrations of organic material in each layer in order to obtain
more efficient devices. The results reveal a device 9.7% better that the solution
found in the literature, being these results verified experimentally. In summary, the
results of the proposed research allow observe that the unpublished integration of
the techniques of Computational Intelligence with Computational Nanotechnology,
here named Intelligent Computational Nanotechnology, emerges as a promising
alternative for accelerate the researches in Nanoscince and the development of application
in Nanotechnology.

[en] MODELING YOUNGS MODULUS OF NANOCOMPOSITES THROUGH COMPUTATIONAL INTELLIGENCE / [pt] MODELAGEM DO MÓDULO DE YOUNG EM NANOCOMPÓSITOS ATRAVÉS DE INTELIGÊNCIA COMPUTACIONALLEANDRO FONTOURA CUPERTINO 17 March 2010 (has links)
Recentemente, a utilização
admissível no modelo.
A validação do aproximador é realizada
[en] Composite materials became very popular due to its improvements on
certain properties achieved from the mixture of two different components.
Recently, the use of nanofillers in the manufacture of composites has been
widely studied due to the improvement of properties at low concentrations
of nanofillers, enabling the creation of lightweight materials. Some of the
existing models for the Young modulus of the nanocomposites have low
accuracy or are limited in terms of the maximum filler fraction possible.
Others are appropriate only for a given combination of matrix and filler.
The objective of this work is to use Artificial Neural Networks as a function
approximation method capable of modeling such property for various
matrix/nanofillers, taking into account their characteristics, without losing
accuracy. The validation of this approximator is performed comparing its
results with other models proposed in the literature. Once validated, a Genetic
Algorithm is used with the Neural Network to define which would be
the ideal setting for three case studies: one that maximizes the value of composite’s
Young’s modulus, other that maximizes the relative modulus and a
third one that maximizes the relative modulus and minimizes the amount
of load used, reducing the cost of project. Computational Intelligence techniques
employed on the modeling and synthesis of nanostructured materials
proved to be adequate tools, since it generated a good approximation of the
data with errors lower than 5%, and determined the material’s parameters
for synthesis with the desired Young’s modulus.

PSO-based coevolutionary Game LearningFranken, Cornelis J. 07 December 2004 (has links)
Games have been investigated as computationally complex problems since the inception of artificial intelligence in the 1950’s. Originally, search-based techniques were applied to create a competent (and sometimes even expert) game player. The search-based techniques, such as game trees, made use of human-defined knowledge to evaluate the current game state and recommend the best move to make next. Recent research has shown that neural networks can be evolved as game state evaluators, thereby removing the human intelligence factor completely. This study builds on the initial research that made use of evolutionary programming to evolve neural networks in the game learning domain. Particle Swarm Optimisation (PSO) is applied inside a coevolutionary training environment to evolve the weights of the neural network. The training technique is applied to both the zero sum and non-zero sum game domains, with specific application to Tic-Tac-Toe, Checkers and the Iterated Prisoners Dilemma (IPD). The influence of the various PSO parameters on playing performance are experimentally examined, and the overall performance of three different neighbourhood information sharing structures compared. A new coevolutionary scoring scheme and particle dispersement operator are defined, inspired by Formula One Grand Prix racing. Finally, the PSO is applied in three novel ways to evolve strategies for the IPD – the first application of its kind in the PSO field. The PSO-based coevolutionary learning technique described and examined in this study shows promise in evolving intelligent evaluators for the aforementioned games, and further study will be conducted to analyse its scalability to larger search spaces and games of varying complexity. / Dissertation (MSc)--University of Pretoria, 2005. / Computer Science / unrestricted
