A parametrized CAD tool for VHDL model development with X Windows

This thesis describes the development of a graphical CAD tool for VHDL model development. The tool was developed for the X Windows environment. The graphical representation used is the process model graph [1,4]. The process model graph is input interactively and the tool generates the corresponding VHDL code. The design style is restricted to behavioral models. A new scheme was formulated for the development and use of reusable code in the form of primitives. A default set of primitives as presented in [5] was also developed. The tool can also attach to any VHDL analyzer available on the system and analyze the developed code. This tool is designed for use by system modelers and should simplify the process of model development, thus improving productivity. / Master of Science

Automatic verification of VHDL models

Verification of a model describing a hardware system is very important for modeling and simulation purposes. It is necessary to ensure that the model accurately describes the hardware system. A scheme for the automatic verification of VHDL (VHSIC Hardware Description Language) models has been proposed. In the proposed scheme the specifications for the hardware system, i.e.,the timing constraints and relations between input and output signals are described by the designer in Modified Linear Time Temporal Logic,. which is an extension to traditional boolean logic and can describe timing relation between signals. A semantic similarity between temporal operators and VHDL timings and delays has been drawn and an algorithm for comparing the VHDL model and temporal specifications has been developed. Comparisons are made between the simulation results on the VHDL model and the temporal logic specifications and discrepancies are reported. / Master of Science

Approved for public release, distribution is unlimited / This thesis outlines the development, programming, and testing a logical interface between a radar system, the AN/SPS-65(V)1, and a general-purpose reconfigurable computing platform, the SRC Computer, Inc. model, the SRC-6E. To confirm the proper operation of the interface and associated subcomponents, software was developed to perform basic radar signal processing. The interface, as proven by the signal processing results, accurately reflects radar imagery generated by the radar system when compared to maps of the surrounding area. The research accomplished here will allow follow on research to evaluate the potential benefits reconfigurable computing platforms offer for radar signal processing. / Captain, United States Marine Corps

Feature Detection And Matching Towards Augmented Reality Applications On Mobile Devices

Local feature detection and its applications in different problems are quite popular in vision research. In order to analyze a scene, its invariant features, which are distinguishable in many views of this scene, are used in pose estimation, object detection and augmented reality. However, required performance metrics might change according to the application type / in general, the main metrics are accepted as accuracy and computational complexity. The contributions in this thesis provide improving these metrics and can be divided into three parts, as local feature detection, local feature description and description matching in different views of the same scene. In this thesis an efficient feature detection algorithm with sufficient repeatability performance is proposed. This detection method is convenient for real-time applications. For local description, a novel local binary pattern outperforming state-of-the-art binary pattern is proposed. As a final task, a fuzzy decision tree method is presented for approximate nearest neighbor search. In all parts of the system, computational efficiency is considered and the algorithms are designed according to limited processing time. Finally, an overall system capable of matching different views of the same scene has been proposed and executed in a mobile platform. The results are quite promising such that the presented system can be used in real-time applications, such as augmented reality, object retrieval, object tracking and pose estimation.

A Software Tool For Vehicle Calibration, Diagnosis And Test Viacontroller Area Network

Controller Area Networks (CAN&rsquo / s) in vehicles need highly sophisticated software tools to be designed and tested in development and production phases. These tools consume a lot of computer resources and usually have complex user interfaces. Therefore, they are not feasible for vehicle service stations where low-performance computers are used and the workers not very familiar with software are employed. In this thesis, we develop a measurement, calibration, test and diagnosis program -diaCAN- that is suitable for service stations. diaCAN can transmit and receive messages over 3 CAN bus channels. It can display and plot the data received from the bus, import network message and Electronic Control Unit (ECU) configurations, and record bus traffic with standard file formats. Moreover, diaCAN can calibrate ECU values, acquire fault records and test vehicle components with CAN Calibration Protocol functions. All of these capabilities are verified and evaluated on a test bed with real CAN bus and ECUs.

Digital Surface Models From Spaceborne Images Without Ground Control

Generation of Digital Surface Models (DSMs) from stereo satellite (spaceborne) images is classically performed by Ground Control Points (GCPs) which require site visits and precise measurement equipment. However, collection of GCPs is not always possible and such requirement limits the usage of spaceborne imagery. This study aims at developing a fast, fully automatic, GCP-free workflow for DSM generation. The problems caused by GCP-free workflow are overcome using freely-available, low resolution static DSMs (LR-DSM). LR-DSM is registered to the reference satellite image and the registered LR-DSM is used for i) correspondence generation and ii) initial estimate generation for 3-D reconstruction. Novel methods are developed for bias removal for LR-DSM registration and bias equalization for projection functions of satellite imaging. The LR-DSM registration is also shown to be useful for computing the parameters of simple, piecewise empirical projective models. Recent computer vision approaches on stereo correspondence generation and dense depth estimation are tested and adopted for spaceborne DSM generation. The study also presents a complete, fully automatic scheme for GCPfree DSM generation and demonstrates that GCP-free DSM generation is possible and can be performed in much faster time on computers. The resulting DSM can be used in various remote sensing applications including building extraction, disaster monitoring and change detection.

After the book, Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software was published in 1994, usage of design patterns in object-oriented (OO) programming has been investigated by many researchers. However, the effects of design patterns on non-object oriented (non-OO) programming have not been analyzed too much in the literature. This study focuses on various design pattern implementations using non OO programming and investigates the benefits of design patterns upon real-time software. In order to evaluate the results, specific quality metrics were selected and performance of traditionally developed software was compared with that of software developed using design patterns.

Automatic Eye Tracking And Intermediate View Reconstruction For 3d Imaging Systems

In recent years, the utilization of 3D display systems became popular in many application areas. One of the most important issues in the utilization of these systems is to render the correct view to the observer based on his/her position. In this thesis, we propose and implement a single user view rendering system for autostereoscopic/stereoscopic displays. The system can easily be installed on a standard PC together with an autostereoscopic display or stereoscopic glasses (shutter, polarized, pulfrich, and anaglyph) with appropriate video card. Proposed system composes of three main blocks: view point detection, view point tracking and intermediate view reconstruction. Haar object detection method, which is based on boosted cascade of simple feature classifiers, is utilized as the view point detection method. After detection, feature points are found on the detected region and accordingly they are fed to the feature tracker. View point of the observer is calculated by using the tracked position of the observer on the image. Correct stereoscopic view is, then, rendered on the display. A 3D warping-based method is utilized in the system as the intermediate view reconstruction method. System is implemented on a computer with Pentium IV 3.0 GHz processor using E-D 3D shutter glasses and Creative NX Webcam.

A C++ Implementation And Evaluation Of Alternative Plan Generation Methods For Multiple Query Optimization

In this thesis, alternative plan generation methods for multiple query optimization(MQO) are introduced and an implementation in the C++ programming.language has been developed. Multiple query optimization, aims to minimize the total cost of executing a set of relational database queries. In traditional single query optimization only the cost of execution of a single relational database query is minimized. In single query optimization a search is performed to investigate possible alternative methods of accessing relational database tables and alternative methods of performing join operations in the case of multi-relation queries where records from two or more relational tables have to be brought together using one of the join algortihms (e.g. nested loops, sort merge, hash join,etc). The choice of join method depends on the availability of indexes, amount of available main memory, the existence of ORDER BY clause for sorted output, the sizes of involved relations, many other factors. A simple way of performing multiple query optimization is to take the query execution plans generated for each of the queries as input to a MQO algorithm, and then try to identify common tasks in those plans using the MQO algorithm. However, this approach will reduce the achievable benefits since a more expensive execution plan (thus discarded by a single query optimizer) could have more common operations with other query execution plans, resulting in a lower total cost for MQO. .For this purpose we will introduce several methods for generating such potentially beneficial alternative query execution plans and experimentaly evaluate and compare their performances.
