Cycle paths’ degradation processes and surface condition assessment

Larsson, Martin January 2023 (has links)
A smooth surface with good friction on the cycle path is not only important for the traffic safety of the cyclists but also for their comfort and level of service. Potholes, cracks, and bumps are frequent obstructions on the cycle paths. These are all maintenance-related deficiencies associated with the degradation of the structure. In general, the knowledge on degradation of roads is good, as there is a long tradition of investigation into the degradation factors. Cycle paths, even though constructed with similar materials and techniques as the roads, are however not designed in the same way as roads, mainly since they will not be subjected to the same traffic load. Thus, one purpose of this licentiate thesis is to identify degradation factors specific for cycle paths, through a state-of-the-art literature study. The literature review is complemented by two papers, where Paper A analyses the distress found on Swedish municipal cycle paths and Paper B evaluates a novel method for condition assessments on cycle paths related to cycling comfort—the Bicycle Measurement Trailer. The review and papers are meant to act as the basis for the general aim of the PhD-project, namely, to develop more knowledge on the degradation of cycle paths. This knowledge is needed to improve the structural design approaches and maintenance strategies for cycle paths and to give guidance for preventive measures to inhibit degradation.

Influência do tipo de ligação no desempenho estrutural de treliças de bambu mosô / Influence of connection systems on the structural performance of Moso bamboo trusses

Radaskievicz, Tiago 29 July 2016 (has links)
The use of bamboo as structural element is a reality in many countries in Asia and South America, even with different building methodologies. Although some bamboo species, as Moso (Phyllostachys Pubescens) have excellent mechanical properties, its diffusion as a building element conflicts with the difficulty on conceiving efficient connection systems between structural elements. Given that joints are the weak point of the structure, collapse may occur even when the structural element is intact. This research aimed to evaluate the influence of connection systems on the structural performance of plan trusses built with three different connection systems subjected to similar load conditions. By comparing the strengths obtained on the characterization tests of compression (41 MPa), tension (146 MPa) and shear (10 MPa) to the acting stresses on the truss bars in the moment of collapse, it was noted that bamboo mechanical properties were underused, once the collapse of the tested structures always started by the connections.

Analýza řadicího mechanizmu traktoru / Tractor Shift Mechanism Analysis

Netopil, Jan January 2021 (has links)
The thesis focuses on the shifting mechanisms of manually shifted tractor transmissions. It provides a comprehensive overview of all significant structural nodes of the shift mechanism with an analysis of the influence of the structure on the resulting intensity of a force required for shifting. The main aim of this thesis is the design and validation of experimental equipment for measuring the force effects of the shift mechanism of a mass-produced tractor in actual operation. The design of the experimental equipment is based on a study of the used measuring technique and similar experimental equipment. The final structure is selected based on selection by the method of weighted values, taking into consideration the requirements of the structure. A functional measuring chain is designed and formed for the realization of the measurement. To evaluate the data from the technical experiment, a multibody model of the designed experimental device is created in the MSC Adams View software, through which the real parameters of the shift mechanism are obtained from the measured values. The designed experimental equipment brings the possibility of complete analysis and subsequent optimization of the tractor's shift mechanism
