We reflect on the social imaginary about the fashion universe, from the point of view of the idealization of the daily life of professionals area. We carried out this study in the perspective of Communication and Consumption, organizing it in four driving axes of reflection, namely: Communication, Consumption, Identity and Fashion. Our theoretical-conceptual framework is based mainly on in Mary Ap. Baccega, Marcia Tondato, Gilles Lipovetsky, Vander Casaqui, Don Slater and Simone Tuzzo, among several other authors who contributed to the construction of search. As for the empirical material, we have two databases: one documents and images of the IES websites, to institutional discourses, and another one built from the realization of three focus groups composed of fashion students from three São Paulo colleges, which enabled us to understand the universe of beliefs and the aspirations of the students. For the analysis of the speeches of young people and HEIs, we adopted the principles of French Speech Analysis, the from Eni Orlandi, through which we interviewed about the future profession and the articulations with the formation of their identity professional. Synthetically, the result is that the symbolic sphere that fashion represents, and in which it is inserted, builds an ethos of the profession structured around the glamorization and spectacularization, but not without questioning because of its ephemeral nature and historically linked to frivolity. Our findings show us, however, that a change is taking place that manifests itself in a latent desire of the young people to resemantize fashion from a social and political dimension, in the private individual and more in the collective.

The Mallification Of Urban Life In Ankara: The Case Of Ankamall

Akcaoglu, Aksu 01 August 2008 (has links) (PDF)
This study investigates the emergence of a shopping mall based urban life in Ankara. As the city is under the siege with the mushrooming growth of shopping malls, the urban life gains a new attribute. The economical, social, and cultural institutions and activities of the city are collected under the roof of the mall, and distinctions out of the shopping mall are formed and reproduced around the consumption activities of the mall. Based on a qualitative research which was conducted in ANKAmall, this study investigates the shopping mall experience of the different segments of population in terms of income group, age, and gender. Shopping malls present an idealized urban life in Turkey by providing individuals to articulate with Westernization, modernization, and globalization processes in their everyday lives. While the everyday life goes under transformation in the shopping malls through the juxtaposition of irrelevant spheres, they also become the center of attraction for different segments of population despite their restrictive dynamics such as socio-technological control. The subject of the mallified urban life is the consumer, while its culture rests on the intersection of modernization and globalization.

No. of bitstreams: 1 ppgcom - dorama de miranda carvalho.pdf: 34743082 bytes, checksum: c652cc08cbb08eb0bb78c4dc4da01705 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2018-03-28 / The purpose of this study is to present the formation of a reader-protagonist in the current Brazilian literary scene, based on the analysis of the discourses generated in blogs about literature and the intersection with other social networks, especially YouTube. The goal is to show that there are new ways of accessing reading and that bloggers and youtubers are representatives of various literary consumption practices. The course of research and the discursive analysis of 12 blogs indicated the emergence of subjects that are transforming the dynamics of the book sector, with reviews and commentaries in social networks, both on book launches and on classical works. The printed book is highlighted even in a scenario of sales retraction and allows the emergence of new actors in literary criticism. The work resulted in some points that deserve to be highlighted: the current reading scenario in Brazil; the reader in a universe of media consumption of literature; convergence of media platforms as a generator of new identity formations; the discourses aimed at specific audiences and, as a consequence, the rise of authors, genres and literary styles.

Visual consumption : an exploration of narrative and nostalgia in contemporary South African cookbooks

Engelbrecht, Francois Roelof January 2013 (has links)
This study explores the visual consumption of food and its meanings through the study of narrative and nostalgia in a selection of five South African cookbooks. The aim of this study is to suggest, through the exploration of various cookbook narratives and the role that nostalgia plays in individual and collective identity formation and maintenance, that food, as symbolic goods, can act as a unifying ideology in the construction of a sense of national identity and nationhood. This is made relevant in a South African context through the analysis of a cross-section of five recent South African cookbooks. These are Shiny happy people (2009) by Neil Roake; Waar vye nog soet is (2009) by Emilia Le Roux and Francois Smuts; Evita’s kossie sikelela (2010) by Evita Bezuidenhout (Pieter-Dirk Uys); Tortoises & tumbleweeds (journey through an African kitchen) (2008) by Lannice Snyman; and South Africa eats (2009) by Phillippa Cheifitz. In order to gain an understanding of cookbooks’ significance in modern culture, it is necessary to understand that cookbooks – as postmodern texts – carry meaning and cultural significance. Through the exploration of cookbooks, as material objects of culture, one is also able to explore non-material items of culture such as the society’s knowledge, beliefs and values. Other key concepts to this study include the global growth of interest in food; the shift from the physical consumption of food to the visual consumption thereof; the roles that consumption, narrative and nostalgia play in constructing and maintaining personal and collective identities; and the role of food as a unifying ideology in the construction of a sense of nationhood. / Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / gm2014 / Visual Arts / unrestricted
