Both the expansion of solidarity, and to create a utopia, the idea of contingency is central. Marked by time and cultural traditions of their society, the subject no longer has essences or nature, but a plot of episodes described by a language quota. The contingency of language and identity are articulated ideas for dealing with descriptions of themselves and the world as a result of the capacity of human imagination. Breaking with the idea of objectivity able to access a reality independent of the contingencies and language, Rorty names of redescription reinvent the process in which our vocabularies to resolve conflicts and then progressing intellectually and morally. Such progress comes in the enlargement of the conversation and the guarantee of private individuals to autocriation. By imagination and redescription, philosophy Rorty literature search instrument capable of bringing individuals, showing their similarities and contingencies, to expand the sense of solidarity in a community. The central aim of this dissertation is to understand the philosophy of Richard Rorty as from the contingency literature redescriptions acts on the vocabulary of private individuals and enables the expansion of the feeling of solidarity. / Pela cisão do sujeito entre o idiossincrático e o público, e a impossibilidade de conciliação entre esses dois planos, o filósofo americano Richard Rorty inventa sua utopia de uma democracia liberal e ironista e defende uma alternativa para expansão da solidariedade humana. Tanto na ampliação da solidariedade, quanto para criar uma utopia, a ideia de contingência é central. Marcado pelo tempo e pelas tradições culturais de sua sociedade, o sujeito já não possui essências nem natureza, mas uma trama de episódios descritos por uma linguagem contingente. A contingência da linguagem e da identidade são ideias articuladas para tratar as descrições do mundo e de si como resultado da capacidade humana de imaginação. Rompendo com a ideia de uma objetividade capaz de acessar uma realidade independente das contingências e da linguagem, Rorty nomeia de redescrição o processo no qual reinventamos nossos vocabulários para resolver conflitos e seguir progredindo intelectual e moralmente. Tal progresso surge na ampliação dos espaços de conversação e na garantia privada dos indivíduos de se autocriarem. Pela imaginação e redescrição, a filosofia rortyana busca na literatura o instrumento capaz de aproximar os indivíduos, mostrar suas contingências e semelhanças, para expandir o senso de solidariedade numa comunidade. O objetivo central dessa dissertação é entender na filosofia de Richard Rorty como, a partir da contingência, a literatura age nas redescrições do vocabulário privado dos indivíduos e possibilita a ampliação do sentimento de solidariedade.
